  1. I shot my first buck in 1966 on public, state land (Erwin mgt Area). Back then, it was "normal" to see many (30-40) deer per day on opening day, the first Saturday (season opened on Monday) and Thanksgiving morning. There were way more hunters around pushing. Parked cars along most rural roads were commonplace. Bet ya Dan (Pygmy) would say the same. Times sure have changed.
  2. About all I remember are onion farms. Does Sheron Farms sound familiar?
  3. I remember that! The woods sounded like a war zone.
  4. Could not agree more. I used to hunt up around Prattsburg. Guy in our party shot a big 10 that dressed at 195# and eventually was scored in the mid 160’s. Biggest I ever personally saw. The bucks in our area tend to run smaller... but there are quite a few! LOL. The wife and I spanked three decent ones last year.
  5. I have hunted Steuben since 1966... when I shot my first buck. No deer left. Stay away! LOL
  6. All of my life I have driven pickup trucks. Had all major brands. Some were better than others, but most were ok. Since I am now an official old fart, I have a Honda Ridgeline AWD. It is the best ... by far. It rides like a cadaverlac, gets good mileage and hauls / pulls everything I need it to.
  7. Some rodenticides can exhibit secondary poisoning... but not all. Read the product label.
  8. Kudos to the pilot and flight crew. RIP soldier.
  9. Reduviidae. Not a stink bug.
  10. No, no, no. The chiggers are already gone. You will not smother anything. The severe itching is your body’s reaction to a toxin injected at the bite site. Chiggers DO NOT bury into your skin. They insert their mouthparts to feed.
  11. Looks like I will not be heading up to NY this fall at all. First season missed in many, many years. My wife has a medical issue and I will be needed for support. Hope you gents have a great year.
  12. Hard, tri-fold for me. Easy off if necessary too.
  13. There is an Excalibur Vortex for sale on Crossbow Nation right now. About $300.
  14. I have had heavy chigger populations (this year) around my house. Likely our very wet spring contributed. Use a good repellant when going into the woods or perimeter areas where they congregate, and use Permethrin on clothes and footwear. BTW, they do not burrow deep into the skin as the story is often told. The nail polish recommendation in worthless BS. They do inject a toxin into the feeding site. The bodies‘ itching is a reaction to that toxin. A good hot, soapy shower after being infested is advisable.
  15. Even has an overdraw. That is an old bow... that looks to be in great condition.
  16. It would be close... but probably. You would need to measure though as each bow may be a bit different.
