  1. Thanks to some help from my local chef I had better luck with Sous Vide brisket. I left two pieces in overnight, I'm interested how they came out. Scalloped potatoes and roasted habenero peppers for the fillers.
  2. Was hoping to find a thread like this. After years of waiting for more room to stretch our legs my wife and I adopted a dog. I know ziltch about dogs and we were told he is a Mountain Cur. I looked at pictures and I'm not so sure. All though I love the stinking dog from moment one, I would like to know what his breed is. We picked him up from the local Humane Society and all they knew was he was 8 weeks old and from Georgia. Thanks in advance for input. Btw he had a brother as well, their names were Alan and Jackson, what a sucker I am can't believe we didn't take both. Jackson will have a happy home.
  3. Im in 5H as well (Remsen) I'll be up there! No bucks on my small property yet but a lot of bear all over 5H from what I've heard and seen.
  4. Yup i would go i little below where I aim on a deer. My bear last year went 5 yards with a 7mm08.
  5. Lol he works there. Six months till he retires, he pays $60 a month to park his camper.
  6. My dad lives on prison grounds there must have been 20-30 deer bedded in the field he can't hunt. Ten minutes down the road we almost hit a big 8 on the side of the road. So with all these local deer sightings we are driving three hours to the Dacks to hunt. Doesn't make much sense at the moment.
  7. Love the thread. I tried an app but I think this site could do better, any help would be great.
  8. Rye is coming in well. Small hard to get to area that I'm trying to improve the soil for turnips and radishes. In my main plot radishes and turnips grew beyond my wildest expectations. 100s of bulbs. Deers have already crushed the tops.
  9. Same problem I really feel it holds me back, I always feel like I'm missing hearing something.
  10. Gyro is better. If your in Monticello, Salt and Pepper kitchen is a hidden gem if you like Korean food.
  11. Deserto's in Fair Oaks but depends where in Orange County you are. There are a bunch http://desertosdeercutting.com/
  12. Yeah but I understood what I was getting into. For me it's a hobby that saves me money, if I wasn't doing food plots I would end up with some other costly toy or hobby.
  13. Dead center behind the rock wall.
  14. Just did the same exact thing yesterday arcade hunter. Tonight some sous vide duck legs crisp up in the over with duck confit purple potatoes and parsnips.
  15. I say go for it brother. Even if you get 40% germination it's 40% more then letting it sit in the bag.
  16. Land, was it your plots that were flooded? I had the same issue last year and still have no idea what happend.
  17. That view is priceless regardless of the hunting. Good luck looks like a great spot.
  18. I have more bear then bucks on cam. This guy was tasting my new food plot. Getting bigger bear on cam as the season gets closer I might harvest bear in back to back years. On a good note I have no clue if the increased bear presence is the reason but coyote sightings are way down.
  19. So I went early on seeding beets and greens from wti as an experiment. The deer are busy with the beans but the growth I've had compared to last year is night and day. I have stuffed all the tonage my small plots can handle and I'm excited to see the difference from last hunting season. I have a small 1/4 acre kale and rape plot that was planted August 1st, I would say it is already 80% demolished. A ton (no pun intended) of lessons learned from last season and I hope to make more adjustments next year. I added 120 pounds of rye and 60 pounds of triticale to spots that need refreshing. Bucks aren't on cam at least yet but there was so much poop in the soy bean plot I could smell it. I couldn't pass on the first Sunday of football so i had to suck it up and take a three hour drive to sit in the rain all day today.
  20. Im not the person to ask on that one, wish I could help more.
  21. Chef, from your pictures I think Moog gets more sunlight and probley got a little deeper into the ground with his tilling method.
  22. I was suprised a couple weeks ago when I checked on a new plot, deer were already nipping the tops. Maybe they were just curious as nobody else has brassicas in the area but I was surprised to see them already eating out of the plot.
  23. Looks great! Have you noticed the deer hitting the greens at all?
  24. No wheat this year for me. The local co-op said they had trouble getting it in stock this year. I'm going with rye in my plots with low ph and I'm going to try Triticale in the plot I have with good soil. I took the advise last year from the co-op and the same guy said if you liked how the deer ate the wheat you will love triticale, it's just a little more particular when it comes to the soil. For those who are interested https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triticale
