Changing brands of ammo can absolutely change the accuracy of your hunting rifle. I think that you need to shoot several brands to determine which brand your rifle prefers. After that, I only shoot a few rounds each year to check zero. The difference between Remington and Federal in my 7mm is as much as 6 inches! At ranges under 100 yards, you would most likely be fine. I had to sight my rifle in one year because I couldn't find 150 grain Federals, only 165 grain. Maybe I was being too picky, but there was a difference.

Hope you had a good one man! It was pretty decent weather. Hope you got to enjoy it with friends and family. Happy Birthday Bionic!

Congrats Dan! It sure is nice country up there. Good luck with your second tag.

I've never seen that. Good to know. No Cab Fresh to be found in Vermont. I had to order a whole damn case online. As an added bonus, Cab Fresh smells wonderful!

I've never seen mice use dryer sheets for nests. In my experience, they chew on it and it makes them sick. I've also used Cab Fresh with success. It can be hard to find though.

I rented a cabin from a guy in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. He almost bet me a month's rent that he could catch a turkey with his bare hands during the spring season. He didn't follow through with the bet. It aint as easy as it looks.

Traditional fixed blade screw-in 125gr broadhead for turkey?

Are you related to Moog, by chance? -
My buddy has 85 acres near his camp that was logged last year, during deer season. I walked it with him this late winter. The logger was pulling the entire tree and didn't leave any tops. It leaves things looking nice, but it sure seemed like a waste to me. The logger didn't take enough trees to get more sunlight to the ground. There isn't much food in this area. I guess my point is that all situations are different. I would normally say that logging is good for deer and habitat. Not in this case. The only benefits were money for the landowner, and wider log roads that we will be able to seed down. It doesn't seem like the disruption was worth the outcome.

what are peoples results planting chicory
stubborn1VT replied to land 1's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I planted it in what amounts to a wide section of log road. I mixed it with a couple clovers. It is dry, well drained ground and it doesn't have an ideal amount of sunlight. The chicory seemed to establish quicker than the clover. I'm curious to see what it does in its second year. Hoping to shoot a strutter in this plot next month! -
I shot my first buck with a Marlin like the one pictured. It was chambered in .32-40. It was my great Uncle's and I'm a little miffed that I didn't end up with it. I did end up with my grandfather's Savage 99 in .250-3000, although I had to pay for it. Haven't taken it hunting since I was a teenager. It's on my list of things to do though.

I was thinking about black flies last week while I was cutting and burning brush. It was pretty decent working weather. This coming week looks especially wet and lousy. I'm in no big rush for mosquitoes, poison ivy and hot weather, but late winter has seemed to stall out around here. Seems like I've been running the wood stove FOREVER.

Backstrap and onions, plain old bread and butter, homemade pickles, and some brussel sprouts from the Green Giant. Being a bachelor tonight. One without a camera. But one with plenty of Founders "All Day" in the fridge!

Online at Deer Creek Seed Company.

Hard to tell without any sense of scale. Choke cherry is my guess.

If I was in your situation, I would probably try Deer Creek's "logging road mix". It's a pretty cheap mix of ryegrass, clover and fescue. $27 for 9lbs. I've been happy with their products, although I am a believer in WTI stuff.

It's worth going out to roost birds just to hear them. I have no idea if they will still be there come May. My buddy drove by my primary spot and the big flocks are starting to break up. He saw a couple toms with hens, one on each side of the road. There were also some jakes out half strutting. Two weeks ago the birds were all in one giant flock. Maybe spring is finally getting here. I love to owl hoot. If I had my choice, I would let the birds gobble on their own. Usually I let the first crows do their thing. If that doesn't work then I owl hoot with my voice. I often call in barred owls, so I guess that's good enough. I have one spot on the hill behind my grandfather's place. The dirt road is always full of potholes in May. I can go up the hill and wait for somebody to drive by with a trailer, or a rattly pickup. That always makes them gobble.

I imagine the Kioti can lift more because it weighs more as well.

Looking for a compact point/shoot digital camera
stubborn1VT replied to Pygmy's topic in General Chit Chat
I'm in the same boat as you Dan. My Cannon came up missing, and I use a slider phone. I can't justify a "smart phone". I almost choked on my Miller High Life when my girlfriend told me what she paid for her last phone! I mostly use my digital camera to view SD cards in the field, to take pics of stuff for sale, or for hero pics. Good luck getting a hero pic this spring Moog! If you wanted to drive a long ways, I could put you on some birds in Central VT. I'm no Bill Schmitt, but I tag two birds every spring. -
Happy birthday Biz! i'm a bit late too. Go SOX!

Happy Easter Rob. It's good to remember where we came from, and what is important in life.

Congrats! I grew up on a farm, so a tractor always seemed like a necessity to me. Shuttle shift is great for a loader, and ag tires should treat you well. It's great how many uses there are for a tractor. I hope you enjoy it for many years.

I'm pretty sure we will have new gun laws here in Vermont shortly. I don't know how dramatic the changes will be, but they are coming. I doubt any of the new legislation will have any impact on me personally. Some of my friends are outraged, but I feel like the people (majority) have spoken and lawmakers have listened. I'm not for new gun laws here, but I understand the current push. Choosing a place to live is about quality of life. Gun laws are only a small factor in the bigger puzzle for me.
