  1. Didn't know 3 of em. Only 54 tho. Lol
  2. Both grandnephews connected this youth season. We did some scouting during the week. Seen several nice bucks and formed a game plan. Dom was up to bat first, as his older brother took his first deer last yr. Dom decided to only shoot a buck the first morning, but would gladly take a doe from then on. We were running late, but it ended up being a good thing. As we topped a rise in the field, Dom spotted a deer off to our left prob 300 yrds out. It was a buck. We quickly backtracked and got to the other side of the field and set up next to a large oak. About 10 min later, the buck came into view. He fed by at 60 yrds. Dom made a perfect shot, and he only went 30 yards. 132lb 4pt. This morning Kayden and I went to a different field but didn't see a thing. Around 8 we took a walk and bumped several deer. We decided to sit tight and 10 min later we seen two deer walking along the field edge about 80 yards out. His first shot hit, but I couldn't tell exactly where. I told him to shoot again. The second shot hit also. After 30 min we started tracking. After about 80 yrds, we jumped her. I noticed that she was hit in the shoulder, and it was obvious that his second shot wasn't in the vitals. We backed off for a couple hrs. Jumped her again 200 yrds further, but she only went 50 yrds before bedding. Snuck up and he finished her off. I think this doe meant more to him then his buck last yr. He had the emotions of highs and lows. Learned to read sign and follow a rather sparse blood trail. Learned to back off on a marginal hit.
  3. So sorry to hear this. Miracles happen every day. Keep that though and hope with you. Fingers crossed for you and your family.
  4. Prayers sent. May he feel the tug of many fish after his recovery. Any update on his condition?
  5. In the spot that Dom and I were going to sit this morning. Sitting with his older brother.
  6. Lol. No sub division/postage stamp sized lawns here. Most are 1.5+ acres of lawn. My largest is 6 acres of mowing. Takes me little over 3 hrs to mow and trim.
  7. Didn't know there was a harvest thread. Already have it posted here, so I'll wait and see if I can get Dom's older brother on a deer and post a double header.
  8. Lol. We were actually walking in and seen him in the field 400 yrds out. Circled around and he walked right too us. 60 yrd shot.
  9. Dom got it done this morning.
  10. Sounds like my oldest grandnephew. He's activity hunting a two legged doe. Poor kid will ultimately realize his error. Maybe..,
  11. Well, I'm down to one grandnephew. The oldest(15) is hunting something else tomorrow. Lol. Dom is so excited he can't sit still. He's asking me every question he can think of, some of them twice. We seen 6 bucks this evening in on the property were hunting in the morning. But he said if the first deer is a big doe that gives him a ethical shot, he's taking it. Good luck everyone. Looking forward to seeing some huge smiles.
  12. Sounds like a good choice to me. Cherish those memories. Great pics too.
  13. Believe me, I know about ticks. I'm in Columbia county. We're infested with them. I hang my deer and spray the hide with Sawyer tic repellent. I take great care not to get it onto the meat. I skin ASAP, and place hide in a plastic bag and seal it tight. The skinned carcass is tick free.
  14. Brake down the hinds into the three main muscles. Sirloin, top and bottom round and cut steaks, or use as roasts. Backstraps get frozen in 6" sections. This way I can butterfly and stuff, or slice into cutlets after thawing. I never let my deer age. I've tried it both ways and just can't taste any difference. Also, why did you quarter it in the field? Not that anything is wrong with that. Most drag em out and skin at home. Easier to quarter when hanging too. Congrats on the doe.
  15. Welcome to the circus.. .
  16. If I seen her, she'd have a third color, red. I'd shoot her in a heartbeat.
  17. Haven't even looked at my bow yet. Probably won't hunt until crossbow season. Just too much going on.
  18. I'll definitely give you a call if one of my grandnephews connect on a buck during this weekends youth season.
  19. Old Chatham, 4U, late 70's I remember my first time on stand by myself. My brother dropped me off and said stay here till dark. I'll come get you. Seen two doe, but they were 50+ yrds out. Only live 15 min from there, but haven't hunted it since the property sold in the late 90's.

I know a few guys that hunt Taborton Mt. They also live in the sand lake area.
  21. Just a FYI... Youth need to have blaze orange on also.
  22. Good luck guys. I'll be taking both of my grandnephews out Saturday. It's a better afternoon spot, but we'll give it a shot in the morning. Dominic is up first, as his brother Kayden took a 4pt last youth season. Of course Dom wants to get a buck like his brother, but said a nice fat doe will work too. Lol. Going scouting tomorrow and Fri evening.
  23. I tried that once, and only once. Barely had enough time to drop my drawers. It wasn't pretty. Lol
  24. Congrats TF on your first archery deer. . A trophy indeed. I still remember my first bow deer like it happened yesterday.
  25. Baseball bat sound at the shot telling me is a shoulder hit or leg. Leg wouldn't leave much hair. Leg hair is very thin and short. Hard to spot. I've shot a handful of deer over the yrs with broadheads buried in the shoulder, and even one buried in the spine. Couldn't believe it didn't paralyze him.
