  1. Sorry to hear about the boating accident. Had the same thing happen to me. I mentioned that to a trooper friend who was a diver. He wanted to know where. I said it was over 200 feet deep. Later he caught on...
  2. It's worked for me where it's thick. Opened up an easy to traverse lane. Deer will take the path of least resistance. Rerouted right past my stand. Killed a bunch there.
  3. I have my dad's red Ryder from the 40s. Canvas case is tattered but gun has deep bluing. I never had a bb gun. Went right to a 22. Remington bolt, still have it too.
  4. Kubota. Buy it a size bigger than you think you need. You'll be glad later that you did. Forget the hook on the bucket. Buy a set of quick detach forks. We use forks more than the bucket. You can chain to them. Forks are great for logs. Definitely loaded AG tires. This is all stuff I learned. Had 2 New Hollands, 1 with a woods backhoe on the way up to a kubota mx with a backhoe. Regularly lifts a ton. Always glad of the size when on a side hill in the woods!
  5. WI tall tine tubers are coated so the seeds are larger than sand. I would think adding daikon radish seed uncoated is about the same size. Radish really helps improve soil as they dig down deep and what deer don't eat rots in spring loosening soil. Got mine from Hancock. Just planted a mix with some WI winter greens in the mix too.
  6. Ask to be shown the regulations that pertains to leftovers.
  7. Carried out my 385# canadian boar on a milsurp stretcher. That's a story in itself...
  8. Had a old friend who owned several hundred acre farm along the west side of Montezuma. Told me he remembered his relatives had a 4 bore punt gun (as I remember). Stood taller than him. Would take down several flyers way up there per shot. Was legal way back.
  9. I'm with farflung, young bear. Look at the ears for a size/age gauge. As they grow the ears get farther apart and appear smaller due to the head growing. I've taken a couple. Greasy. Made a bunch of pickled polish sausage out of one. That was tasty. Put some meat in a dutch oven along with chili fixings and left it on the woodstove all day at relatives adk camp once. Came in at the end of the day and ladeled a couple inches of grease off the top. Wasn't that good. That's why the pickled sausage from the next one.

  11. I read that the pilot was able to escape the wreck.
  12. Don't forget about microstamping. It's a proprietary tech.. What will that add to the cost of a new gun. Pretty much will eliminate sales of competitive priced guns like taurus, kel-tec ect.. I wonder if any manufacturer will even add it to their guns just to sell in NY?
  13. Many years ago at camp my son took his gun with him to the outhouse, propped the door open as he took care of business...
  14. Congratulations to you and your wife! Good restaurant too.
  15. Love it. We used to have a pair of paps too.
  16. I never use steel wool on a gun. Use 0000 brass or bronze wool lubed with gun cleaner when cleaning rust fron guns. Finished with a coat of paste wax, Renaissance wax is the best. Not just me but the NRA recommendation. https://www.americanrifleman.org/content/first-do-no-harm-use-bronze-wool/

    Neat spot

Have been there many times when I used to run on the Glen track. They would make change at the bar with half dollars, dollar coins and $2 bills.

    Bh209

I'll sell mine for that! $120#. And a couple of smokepoles. Once you go smokeless there's no going back.

    Teasers

Pulled camera cards Saturday, Tom's are teasing me.
  20. Where do you get your fertilizer? I've been going to Turners in Hemlock but they are expensive without inflation. I'm ready to get some soon for our plots.
  21. As a young guy I remember how much I liked my parents taking us to Carolls. Burgers were .20 then went to. 25. Remember my dad complaining. Was one in Newark and Weedsport that we went to. Also remember the gas rationing in the 70s. They didn't ration on the thruway. I had a place to sneak off through a farm field with my 4wd truck. Never worried about an empty tank.
  22. One last hurrah this pm. Don't knife I will be able to partake in the extra week. Beautiful day in the woods.
  23. Barnes copper go straight through with no expansion on deer. Had some left over 300 win mag handloads from a Maine moose hunt. Son shot a nice buck 4 holes through chest (in out was really 8 holes) before finishing him over half a mile away. Good thing there was some snow. Very sparse blood trail as the holes sealed up. And hes a tenacious tracker. Worked on moose but didn't stop firing until magazine was empty and needed a finisher. Passed through with bigger holes on outs. Must have expanded. Barnes slugs always had text book nose petals curled back. Best bullets for me are any Sierra or Hornady. Have shot many SST 7mm in a 7GNR, (an improved 7x30 waters). All deer DRT. Fusions group under an inch in a custom Remington 7mag. But shot 4" out of a 7mm08 Savage. Change to SST went to 1". Every barrel is different. Being a handloader let's you find the combo that works. I love a gun that spits many bullets accurately. Then I can pick one that works. Always test as many as you can.
