  1. When the calendar flips to October, the family knows where I'll be till Decembers end.
  2. The discharge of a weapon on a wounded animal to put it down, after sunset. That is a law I know most people will break. Call it what you will.
  3. You got a buck? I didn't see the post. I hunted cut corn yesterday afternoon. Eight deer came in well before sunset at the other end 250 or so yards out. My end, a buck fawn; then as if the pearly gates opened up, seven doe, fawn and the now famous 3x5 named Oaken came in 15 minutes after sunset. I sat there, not to disturb right into seven oclock. Last of the deer exited, got up and walking into the domain of radish, I greeted five more deer. They didn't like the interference, sending their yell bells into the night sky. My radish look as though WWIII was fought in them. They have done the job and if this mild trend holds, feed right in winter.
  4. Yeah, I took it the OP was talking deer, LOL.
  5. You better all look up the definition of hunting in New York State. Anyone that hasn't entered, exited the field by sunrise, sunset is all guilty of hunting before, after hours. Chew on that! Remember, I don't make the laws, the liberals do in this state.
  6. Enjoying the fun in Niagara this morning. The dishwater was flushed to the curb and a new dawn arises. Just got in from a full out, good old fashion, all around heart pumping doe to buck chase. I educated a few yearling bucks this morning. Oh, and the doe lost.
  7. Any firearms hunter can take a bow coarse, and join in on the fun. I welcome them afield to see and experience what I have witnessed through my bow hunting career. I had a 3x5 come in this morning, 7ish and stare up at me for minutes doing his thing. My blood got darker, this morning! Those kinds of experiences with live with me till I die.
  8. Bourbon Red turkeys. What you think?
  9. All week has been quiet here. The young'ins are only ones showing during hunting hours. Doe and bucks have all gone nocturnal. Another behind close doors breeding cycle this season. Maybe this cooler weather will ignite something. Due for one on the ground, past years showing.
  10. Nice to see you starting your kids off at an early age. Hope they join you on hunts in the future.
  11. Was out five until twenty after seven; believe deer moved early. Not even a fawn today. First bust morning. Been pretty slow here the last few. Hope they don't stay in nocturnal mode long.
  12. Laws are made to be broken. It's called revenue.
  13. Olive oil adds a nice flavor to any meat. Good for ya too!
  14. What, no deer hunting? Ah, the warm weather has you all on edge, LOL.
  15. May not mean much to most folks here, but we have killed some nice bucks during mild temps.. Get a doe in heat, no matter the temp., all hell breaks loose. You have to be there to take advantage. Good luck!
  16. All fawns showing during shooting hours. Mature showing pre dawn and dusk here.. Breeding is continuing in thicker areas, with a rare occasional kick out into viewing areas.
  17. We'll, our numbers are down from what they were last year. Seen 7 hens Sunday, all huddled on a fall plowed field. Last fall, 17 were in the same area. I agree, a tom season or two would be the way. The DEC. has failed, once again, on turkey management program.
  18. I'll try tomorrow at the town. If I don't get one, which would surprise me, then less deer to butcher, LOL.
  19. I'll second the wild day. Beautiful walk out; heck couldn't ask for a better darker morning. Radar showed a rain gust area moving in, so kinda prepared. Caught the smell first, then had a deer moved quickly through. Figured he scented me. Wasn't long before another came in, then a third. Wind and rain hit, tree started rocking and cracking and a loud windfall went to the ground nearby. I'm grounded.. Kinda figures right at the height of the action. Winds are now gusting to 52 mph. here.
  20. We didn't get a lot of wind today. Weather say tomorrow we get a big SW. blow on the back side of the system.
  21. President Wilson signed it into law in 1918 to support the war effort during WWI. Year round DST was in place during WWII from 42 to 45, better known as Eastern War Time. From 45 to 66, mass confussion erupted with train, plane , and bus schedules as it was up to each state to decide to stay on old time or change to DST.
  22. Last shoot'em up, law enforcement I had put a doe down, that was hit by a car, shot 7 times into her before she expired,( so he said). I tried to explain to him how an animal continues to move for a time, but he wouldn't hear of it. Said she was still alive. Tagged the deer, took it home and the meat was worthless.
