I bought a Barnett raptor pro this year. I'm not sure about the performance on deer , since I only carried it a few times. It is awesome xbow. Barely NY compliant width (a little over 17" wide). Very accurate. I can hit a coffee cup size target all day at 60 yd s. My buddies all bought more expensive Barnett, ghost 375s and 420. I like mine a lot better. Same speed as 375 in a lighter smaller package. Trigger pull is great too.. if you buy the package you would probably want to upgrade scope.. I highly recommend going with a heavier bolt also. It quiets down the xbow alot.. they all seem to be really loud with stock bolts.

One of my favorite things to do on a rainy weekend day is walk all day . Over the hills and through the woods. I've killed a few doing this. But mostly I learn a lot of new terrain and often see more deer that day then a weeks worth of sits in the big woods. More than once I've ended up at the rd still 5 miles from my truck though..lol.. 3

Lol . When I was a kid we raised horses. I quickly learned it was better to be close (tucked right into their shoulder) to a mean horse than try to stay away. Anyway. Lacking a better plan it felt better and put the fear that was welling up back down .ha. ha.

Yeap . Would have been a lot less exciting If I had a good light with me.. .

If I had a gun he would be dead. My bow....well I have been known to fall to pieces on big does...lol

Opening morning of shotgun at Letchworth.. It's around 6 am: and I'm 1/2 way down to one of the sections of river bottom . I catch out of the corner of my eye a pair of eyeballs glowing in the dark. They're probably not 20-30 yds away.. only light i have is the one built into my hat (they don't shine very far) . I have encountered a bear in this area a few times in the last 5-6 years or so. So I'm thinking maybe I should load my mzl. lol. I choose to just ignore it and keep on walking down.. a few seconds later i hear a few snaps. I turn ,and the eyes are following me down the hill. Yea . Im a little nervous now. We stare at each other a little bit then it starts to circle around and towards me.. i decided I had 2 choices run through the woods like a big 250# screaming scared girl. Or meet it 1/2 way (figured if it knew I wasn't scared it would stop or run away) . Well i was pleasently suprised when we closed distance to under 30 -40 feet and I discovered it was a young dumb buck..ha ha.. He even hung around long enough for me to turn the flash on on my phone and snap a picture.

What Could or Possibly Also May Be in your Hunting Area
ncountry replied to nobody's topic in General Hunting
That is awesome! After you wrote that I searched for porcupine screams online.. You have solved a mystery for me ..lol I have been in the woods a lot and asked many people and no one until now knew the answer.. I have always wondered what that noise is. Often it sounds like a rabbit distress sound.. I always thought that whatever had that rabbit would kill it already and stop playing with it..lol -
I've used a good 6 point socket and a cordless impact driver to remove.. The impact spun it right out.

Order both. I will take your least favorite next season for 1/2 $..

I'm liking the spalted maple best.

Finally closed the deal on a buck. Last morning of archery. He came wandering through about 9:00 . He looked tired and was just browsing some leaves off the honeysuckle as he did. I hit him high... (again). And he went down on the spot ,followed up with a quick 2nd shot and watched the air go right out of him.. a lot better performance than the 5 arrows it took to kill the doe I shot few days ago from the same stand...lol.. I would love to have seen him in another year. But I'm not that guy yet.. this was a LOT of fun... This is becoming my favorite spot at Letchworth.. 2 nine points and 3 doe in the last 3 years..

Congrats! Nice buck! We havn't been having the best luck but not bad either.. we have a couple does hanging and a 9 point... seeing quite a few small bucks.. I have been watching a dozen does. Waiting for the bucks to show.. No luck so far..lol..

Until this morning I has never seen one that small this time of the year.. I'm betting the one I saw this morning wasn't 2 months old.. tops They are going to have a tough winter. Especially if mama doesn't make it

I feel your pain..lol.. i watched 8 does come out 150 yds from my stand 2 times.. so I set another stand.. I'm watching 3 feeding under my other stand right now..ha ha ha

I also shot a doe about an hour ago.. A few years ago I accidently, shooting sraivht down, shot a doe in the back bone. It floored her and she looked to be dead. Well she jumped up and got away before I could get another arrow nocked and shoot. Lesson learned. If they are still moving, shoot.. well... After shooting high this morning and hitting a doe in the back. She fell.. . 4 arrows later I still had to climb down and finish the poor girl off.. She kept on spinning around in the brush and I never had a clean shot at her. So lesson to be learned.. 1: make a better shot. 2: get a bigger quiver Not my proudest moment.

Saw a tiny fawn this morning. 1/2 the size of a typical small fawn.. when I 1st saw them running through the woods I thought they were being chased by a fox. Nope. Looked like a month old..

Pretty sure she was mentally disabled?

That is one of the "great things" about hunting... im a crack shot on a target, but in the moment, with a bow, i have fallen to pieces.. lol. I am embarrassed to admit how many times I overestimated range and shot over nice bucks..(can't count them on one hand)

Do You Support Crossbow Full Inclusion into the NY Archery Season?
ncountry replied to tughillmcd's topic in CrossBow Hunting
I haven't changed my opinion on full inclusion.. But they are fun to shoot, and stupid accurate. I wouldnt fold a 100$ bill in 1/2 and plan on getting it back without being perforated at 65 yds.. I bought one to use.. i am sticking with my compound for now.. But I think I will break out my new toy this week for a few days...
