  1. Thanks, we are thinking of bringing the pontoon boat down.. lol
  2. Good idea. I am, was In the same boat. I just did an absentee ballot and voted against for the reasons you mentioned.
  3. Wow. It is amazing how high the water will get in the park .. I've seen the driftwood in trees quite a way up the sides.lol. I have never hunted the park though when the water is that high.. Has to change things.. I am 5 days away ,and counting down . : )
  4. I have had pretty good luck using combination of aerial photography and topography to pick spots. Especially for 1st time hunts on public land.
  5. I shot one of my nicest archery bucks during a windy day like today..He was shadowing a doe.. it took her close to an hour to lead him the 100yds to pass my stand. The wind was causing so much noise. She was constantly stopping and looking around.. He was clueless, just concentrating on her. So imo.. I would definitely hunt..
  6. Heck. Why stop at legally shooting deer.. What's the cost of a few fines compared to someone's life?
  7. Looks like a great time.. it has been years since I've made it to Lows lake. We camped on or near the grass pond area?
  8. I hunt a few spots that have a lot of walnut trees. The ground can be covered with them and I've never seen a deer touch one..
  9. You got it !! I can't get away from the bears in one of my favorite spots.. i know i wouldnt look forward to dragging one out of the bottom though...lol
  10. Lol... Living 15 miles from his town, I resemb..i mean resent that remark..
  11. You are correct sir.;) From my perspective it sometimes seems that way.. I'm sure the opposite is true. I honestly think that as time goes on we will wish we kept seasons separated. To me it brings to mind what happened up here when they allowed inline mzl with scopes. It whent from there being a few hunters using them to everybody. For the most part , in the northern zone , if you hunt deer you have a mzl..In the past opening day of rifle was THE day... Now they have already been shot and or shot at already..lol.. You are the odd man out if you still carry a traditional mzl.
  12. Thanks, Turkey feathers. That is the song that always comes to mind when it rains .. Now i wont be able to get it out of my head for the rest of the day..lol
  13. Not sure about the three year rotation.. but I like the idea of the season progressing.. With weapons gettin progressively more effective every 2 weeks.. I do not hunt with a traditional bow (yet) , but if that was all I could use for the 1st 2 weeks I would have one yesterday!. Not whine that I want to use my compound.
  14. Not enough info yet.. the pump is ussualy the last thing to go. Check the breaker and pressure switch 1st.
  15. There are quite a few out there capable of 340fps nowadays. Mines an 14 obsession sniper gt. Great little bow.. Not having orangutan arms. It shoots much less ..I think (if i remember correctly)actual speeds were just under 300 with a 425gr arrow. Anyways. I try to set my stand up so that they pass 10-20 yds out.
  16. #1 too much( from a guy that uses a 300 win mag...lol) #2 just about perfect #3 not a fan of for deer #4 boreing #5 I likey a single shot and a 243. I narrowed it down to 2 ..lol
  17. I have made the mistake if making the draught down shot... Shooting a 340fps IBO bow , I was overconfident in my ability to break the spike. I have heard numerous stories of people doing jyst that.. It didn't work for me.. it floored her.. and being over confident I didn't immediately nock another arrow and shoot again. Instead i watched the small buck that had been chaseing her looking at her wondering what happened. A few seconds ( less than a minute)later she starts to stir. Before i can get set and shoot she is up and runs 50 yds away and lays down . Long story short. I emptied my quiver trying to finish her off. But she was in the brush and too far , so I never touched her.. When i tried to track the blood trail was close to non existent. I did manage to track her for 1/4 mile to no avail. I made a few mistakes here that I hope to never repeat. One of them is to never shoot straight down at a deer..
  18. The reason there are more threads of wounded deer by bows is that they know they wounded the deer.. It is a close range weapon , you see the arrow hit the deer.. If you cannot find it you lost it.. I believe a large percentage of firearm wounded animals are lost because the hunter isn't even aware that he hit it.
  19. I call bs on the fact that there are more deer wounded with bow than firearm. On the face of it it seems more lilely. I agree. A skilled, conscientious hunter should have greater odds of losing one with a bow. BUT . Explain. To me how someone can sit in a spot and see 6 wounded deer run by before 10 am: on opening morning. Only 2 actually getting found. So much for the easier and more reliable weapon.. And only because they had to finish it off and "waste " there tag on it.
  20. I usually put out some scent in shooting lanes to get them to stop on their own.. Rarely I will grunt to stop them..Every deer I have ever shot that was still walking was hit too far back.. A few years back grunting at one backfired though.. a nice 2.5+ year old deer was walking through quickly. I grunted to stop him. You would have thought i had shot a starters pistol..lol.. He was gone!..
  21. Living up here , I call the rest of N.Y. downstate.
