  1. If someone was buying feed for deer to begin with I dont think a label on a bag or feed block will deter them
  2. Have to watch illegal to sell a lot that are now protected
  3. A coating that invades seed and makes corn fix it's own nitrogen. This should cut down on timing issues of fertilizer and increase yield in plots. Reducing costs of planting and growing
  4. Read a lot of Clive Cussler, and sci fi fantasy, david eddings, Anne mc caffrey.. time to time I do his historical books on civil war, ww2.
  5. Any time it's over 35 or so they will go an a stroll. Especially if fall was scarce on food.. I always get them on camera during thaws...

  7. That is biggest problem with climbers , need a tree that fits stand . Not the best tree to kill a deer. Cover and wind direction are most important. Followed by your entrance and exit route. Yep leave on ground and haul up rope if you tie knots in it at present measurements you will know if your 10 20 30 ft high. Also put a clip on rope to attach ( carabiners) wrap in tape to quiet it. Nothing worse than trying to untie bow when deer is standing under you
  8. Yes he was a good guy, ww2 sniper and actually shot the 1st deer in ny with muzzleloader, made his own ..was pretty impressive.
  9. The advantage to winter rye is it grows and germinates down to 37 degrees and can handle more acidic soil. Wheat need much warmer temps.almost 50. So if you fall behind in planting rye is better if early frost. If you plant on time wheat is prolly a little better as far as cost and return.
  10. Fortunately I had a neighbor who was a gunsmith, amazing what a little polishing on parts can do ,and it is easy to do yourself.
  11. I do but it needs a sling for sure.
  12. I have one in 30-06. And seeing this reminds me I need to find a sling swivel kit for it....

    Crazy....

Well they are out on case.lake in huts.. I checked.my pond ice is 1.5 in max.. I guess they could fall thru the ice in their huts and no one would.know.. hope they are wearing life preservers
  14. I'd get ahold of crossman and see if they make a bigger one ,they now make larger lever for Marlin rifles due to input from hunters , you may be their inspiration. If they don't perhaps a trip to a machine shop to make a larger one ,and you can start a side buisness making you wealthy.
  15. Get them free from usgs topo do not change much even an older one will work. Combine with sat photo or aerials use only and new as you can find. ( you can get quite a bit for free off the net) early spring photos reveal tree types like black cherry as they are 1st to sprout leaves and fall or winter photos reveal oak and beech as they retain their leaves the longest sometimes through winter. As you become more skilled you will be able to identify leaves in summer like oak as well. Flats on sides of steep slopes are great funnels and bedding areas, top and bottom of steep ravines , saddles between ridges, combine with aerial photos to find habitat edges like pine stands to hardwoods/ brush/ field.. find you likely spots and get boots on ground in july and august with binoculars look to see if the oaks or other trees have nuts. A good tree identification book will help you here as well .GPS your tsrols and mast producing areas and wait for season to start.. best of luck hunting
  16. I believe it was legal in ny in certain counties back in the 90s. I would like to see separate tags sold for spring and fall. Just to aid in setting seasons, they cut the fall season but really have no idea of number of fall hunters as tags are sold together, many do not hunt fall bird as their focus is on deer or phesant/ small game.
  17. Put a duck in front of her with a 12 and she wont feel a thing, amazing what adrenaline does..
  18. The problem with ladders are your height options are limited by legnth of ladder sections. Impossible so set at 13 ft or 8 ft if sections are 5 ft, even harder to fit into gap between limb whirls onna tree as they seem too be below or above stand height attachment points.. You then are limited by tree shapes or lean.. though ease of climbing is better than a stick most are designed to be shot out of while sitting. Stand up and your 18 in or more away from the tree. Skirting helps but a surrounding rail can be a hindrance in shooting a bow at closer ranges. I still have yet to spook a deer while drawing( easily avoided by waiting till its behind a tree or looking away) it's the moving into position that is the hard part. Made harder by safety rails on ladders and non fold up seats. Also a large figure 18 in from a tree trunk hovering in space seems unnatural to a deer I believe.
  19. The carbon express 390 is a good inexpensive crossbow with crank. Picked up one at dunhams after season clearance for 220 normally 320. Was gift for friend for some work on one of my vehicles. He loves it and took a nice 9 pt with it this year. Center point also makes a good inexpensive x bow in the whisper 380. But you have to buy crank seperate
  20. Very nice xbow, shoot and carry well, a little on heavier side but you can use a stick if it's an issue. Very good bow for the price shoots as well as most 7 to 900 dollar xbow. I use a Mathews mbx 400 and actually like feel of whisper 380 better. Cant go wrong with it and company has excellent customer service.
  21. 12 successful hunters, had 14 people at one time , hunter numbers fluctuated in between 14 and 2 on any given day. Maybe 20 total including guests for day here or there. 300 acres I do heavy habitat management on.
  22. Well had a average year again 19 deer taken out of camp from bow gun and muzzleloader Several 1st deer and biggest buck taken for members in camp..bringing total from 1993 to 403 deer taken, if you average 35lbs of boneless meat from a deer it's a little over 7 tons of meat In friends and family's freezers. Perhaps the hunting in ny isnt so bad...
  23. Good advice but you need to buy your hunting licence before you can buy the muzzleloader privilege. Even if you do not want to hunt with gun... more $ but this is the way in ny
