  1. Camper or a shed on skids..( the amish make some large ones you could put a wood stove in and make bunks,ect.. ) as long as it doenst have footer or piers or stacked down cant tax you on it.
  2. I'm going for grouse not to many pheasants around anymore
  3. Shot in 2000 had sheds going back to 93. Was a big 8 then as well. Year before times were 2x as long..
  4. As for your jaw I'm saying 3.5.or 4.5 , I've killed a doe that was ancient and had no teeth
  5. Did tooth rings on my big 8pt and bear. 8 ot was 8.5 and bear was 5
  6. Had him at 40 yards in bow, to thick for shot.
  7. My friend didnt like thus stand after opening day.. I feel sorry for him..
  8. Yes but the longer your in the woods the more scent is left there. No sense in scenting it up all day when action is best few hours at a time. The best benefit of trail cams.
  9. I would just hunt 10 till 2 pm then especially around full moon.. crazy to sit all day to much other stuff to do....lol
  10. Last day.. sit a few hours then others show up and the fun mini drives begin
  11. High.. as for no mans land , I high shot just below spine is rare , and deer can survive it..
  12. Who ever I think is back inside to come get.me via uber...
  13. Light thin skinned game calls for a lighter soft tipped bullet , 120 to 150 grains is all that is needed to allow for expansion and exit, a soft tip core lock is the ticket., I agree 2 holes are better than one. I am a fan of close shots under 150 yards ,under 75 preferred. Beyond that is simply target practice as I look at hunting as the ability to get close to game. Shooting an unsuspecting animal at 300 yards is like a sniper dropping a solider dead before he hears the crack of the rifle. Impressive target shooting but not for a fair chase take of game imo.
  14. Sounds like liver 4 hour wait should be in bed you saw him in.. if you jump it may not find it
  15. I would just mow and maintain trails, in select areas near stands you could kill off grasses and reseed with pure clover, to seed an entire trail system would change feed patterns and change your hunting area. Spray and seed leave dead grass as a bed to protect the growing clover seed.
  16. Imo depends on when you plan on hunting it. Scouting for deer sign in the snow is great If you plan on hunting in snow, but it will not show you were the game is oct 1st. Most successful hunters I know can read the lay of the land, know their trees and preferred food sources in their hunting area. This can be learned mostly.over hunting the same area repeatedly. It use to be common to walk and hunt before the common practice of sitting your butt in a stand and waiting for something to walk by took hold. This was a great way to learn the land and where you jumped deer consistantly, finding active feed areas , and staging areas. Imo when your hunting in snow and kill or jump a deer you should take the time to back track it and see what it was doing before you saw or shot it. You may find it was bedded, was feeding, was pushed by other hunters entering the area. All results are to be filed in your head for future use. For example Knowing they were feeding in a hidden orchard and were headed to bed or a farmers field gives you ability to check that place to see if it has food the next year well before the season( I walk the woods checking for nuts and apples in july) again if they were pushed to you by other hunters who get out of work at 2pm and head to the woods and they reach you at 3pm you may want to be in that area early enough to set up on the pressure they receive. I had a neighbor get out at 330pm and he would ride his 4 wheeler up his hill looking for turkey and would push deer off the top like clockwork at 4pm where they would end up filtering by my bowstand by 415 every weekday. He didnt archery hunt but it made easy hunting for me for years till I told him about it over a few drinks( another reason not to drink with neighbors to excess) now he walks and my free deer drive has ended.. was good while it lasted... So best time to scout is the same time you expect to be hunting it the next year. Keeping tract of mast production and weather conditions.
  17. At 80 yards standing not gonna happen unless deer stands still and I have 20x binoculars. A blind at 20 yards yep no problem . Last years muzzleloader harvest were out of stands at 80 to 140 yards. This year the one I got was on a drive in a multiflora rose patch.
  18. The one I got sun was a buck that shed it antlers already , I do not like that our seasons are so long last year muzzleloader we took 3 buck that had shed already.. I'm to the point I dont like hunting late season as killing a shed buck with 2.5 in bases still bloody is a true let down. And you then try and think what buck it may of been.. smh
  19. 1.5 year old does weigh 101 to 105 here, 2.5 weigh about 110 to 115 3.5 weigh in the 120's I cant age doe over 3.5 to a year accurately but largest we ever weighed was shot by a neighbor and was over 180. Dressed had 5 inches of fat on it's back we tried for her for 3 years and she was huge every year and at least 3 when we 1st targeted her.so maybe 6 or 7 years old ?
  20. We said the exact same thing! Had another guy miss another big one on the drive so one escaped till next year ...
