  1. No all unused tags are valid, your anterlerd reg. season tag becomes either sex as well if allowed in your area, or may become anterless only in doe only areas
  2. The weather ,and deer hunter style preference played the biggest role in non sightings, here the deer were in the nastiest north facing slopes and we're not in traditional winter hunting season bedding areas as the weather was to hot! Usually cold days deer would sun themselves, think about it why would you sit ti n the sun with a fur coat on if it was 60 outside,I look for the air conditioning, 30 out yea,I'd be in the sun on south slopes. Warm weather let hunters sit longer, and not take a walk to warm up. That plus the added fear of possibly pushing a deer to someone else was another reason for deer not being moved.
  3. I shot a nice 8pt, hit it low and back, look for 3 days with and with out my neighbor! my neighbor found it 3 weeks later, offered rack to me I didn't accept it,I lost it he found it,he had a great mount done with it and he hangs it in his trophy room , I didn't need a rack to remind me I messed up. I'm not that attached to any rack and was more upset I killed something slowly and it was wasted.
  4. 12ga smoothbore, don't need rifled barrel still kill all big game at 100 yards with a slug and any small game with birdshot/buck shot.
  5. I usually sight all.long rifles for 75, pistols to 50. If your inch high at 40 you should be good too 100 no problem, 300 grains starts to drop quick between 150 and 200.
  6. Well last year the corn was not harvested here till last day of muzzleloader this year Oct 10th, a 90 acre.crp.field was.brush hogged after 10 years to be put into crop rotation this spring, lots of factors come into play even on a working farm, if you take all 5 things I mentioned in my original post and put them in any combination let alone unseasonably temps ,that make people sit longer because they don't get cold and you will see less deer as a result, I can usually sit 1 to 2 hours max on a day below 32. ( frostbite as a kid) this year I could sit as long as I wanted for 95% of the days, just me walking in and out from a stand location makes a difference to deer movement no matter how careful i am. Many factors ,cams show that there are a lot of deer camp total of 10 buck and 4 doe show they are as well, 2 weekend left with shift to filling doe tags as well....
  7. And what have you done to the pr op erty to maintain optimum habitat for deer, trees grow, fields are turned into hardwood or soft wood stands, bedding areas ripped up for a food plot... ect land is like a living animal it needs to be tended to or it will die.
  8. 1 you had a bad season sitting in the same place you always do ,but food source changed, 2. The woods you sit in has grown up and is no longer conducive to daylight movement, 3. The neighboring property changed hands and they walk their dog off leash all year 4. You have become patterned by the deer as you do the same thing and go to same tree/spot every day. 5. You have shot and filled every tag you ever received as did your neighbors and now the population has crashed..using the dec logic of they gave them to me, instead of thinking /surveying your hunting grounds to available and sustainable population.
  9. I'll shoot my optima or knight out to 85 yrds off a rest (tree) keep it to 50 yards off hand.
  10. Same temps as bow... what's the difference..

    Buck Range

One of the reasons I don't get excited by summer buck sightings, they can and do have different summmer, fall, and winter ranges... but if you see good bucks in the fall and they survive chances are they will be back in the area following fall
  12. Have a 3 ft tree all decorated and ready in a 55 gallon rubber maid garbage can, take off top and lift out, place back in and put on top, put back in shed. Somehow my friend decorated an 8ft tree he leaves up year round, told his wife if you want it down take it down but you put it back up next year... been up in the back sun room for 5 years now...

    3 legs

Old wound shoulder muscles are.developed they would.be non existance on one if born that way, have seen several over the years all wounded, never from birth ,coyote or fox would get it as a fawn 99.9%of the time
  15. I have several , kentucky, knight pk 85, and optima, if your just buying one I recommend the optima!
  16. It's half stated, if you buy bow license it is valid earl or late either sex, and if you purchase muzzleloader you get an anterless only vaid early and late, yes it valid early even if you shoot it with bow it is a "bought doe tag" valid anywhere in the state for all of bow season both early and late, I know many who but their muzzloader tag just for the anterless tag to be used during bow season letting them hold out for a buck .

    Ozonics

Ozone has a distinctive smell and is a bluish gas,Besides harmful health effects, the big thing in this study is it takes months to works.... http://learn.allergyandair.com/ozone-generators/
  18. Savage/Stevens are great dependable work horses.
  19. As soon as you want, had one stand with 6 gut piles around it in 3 days.. deer don't care
  20. Anything is extra food for them, as browse declines, plots become more important. You will need a clover with perhaps a brassica over seeding. That's all that will support heavy use as it will become the favored food source for the deer and turkey, rabbits bear , ext..

    Ozonics

Gimmic, ozone is to hard to keep in an area, might work in a blind, oh a deer walked down wind of me and never smelled me, they ate 40 yards down wind your stand is 25 ft high, scent rises from body heat before it falls so their scent is going right over the deers head regardless of ozonics.. keep clean don't use scent soap or if you do use an apple scented shampoo, and put your stand up and place it down wind of where you expect to see deer and you'll see more ,harvest more than ozonics could ever do for you and at no cost.
  22. Maine, give the option of the most variety of animal including moose, and high bear population, the other are just whitetail and maybe some quail,
  23. The processor I use had his best opening day in 6 years 50 deer in by 3pm opening day 75 by sunday, 1st time he's had to turn deer away as his cooler was full, most were better than average bucks, I thin the opening day weather cold and crisp let hunters sit instead of getting up.and moving around to get warm and taking running shots, they were able to take 1 shot and get deer, 1st time I have seen 3 bear taken within a few miles of each other as well. I don't think less hunters just change in way they hunt.
  24. Looks like a good place for a morning sit.
  25. I hate deer hunting in snow, but like it for tracking bear.. hoping for nothing till muzzleloader.
