Just dug this little hole in the woods I. A swale where it stays wet most of the year..will be about 6 ft deep and 40 ft in diameter when full , I'll add some red Rosie's for bait as it's pretty isolated when it's full.

Just run risk of burning it out as you will hunt it more ...

Got mine in last week thankfully.before the fri sat rain..

Hunt thicker areas.. where 25 yards is max viability to shoot in bow ,and maybe only in one lane most shots are under 10 yards, use your ears and yes you will feel closterphobic. Makes a world of difference .

Deer movement advice on a large clear cut
G-Man replied to left field's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I have hen nesting in. The aspen I dropped over winter as well as grouse, new root sprouts have started and the additional light reaches far into the small woodlot where cherry, maple and oak seedlings have emerged in what was a bare leaf litter see thru woods.. the sign and sighting of all game has increased 10x in that 10 acre piece.. to most it looks like a mess till you point out all that is new.. bonus is the 12 lbs of oyster mushrooms my friend and I picked last sunday off the aspen and I expect they will spread to all the new dead aspen I created as well. -
I've taken 5 many years and 7, 3 times since I started hunting. Usually its around 3 as of late as I do not need the extra meet and the other I use to give to my brother for his family are old enough to hunt themselves.. one is made into bacon, one sausage , and one ground and cuts( the 1st 2 are minus backstraps of course)

We never cut hay till july, silage is what most early cutting seems to go for.. fawns and turkey nests to abundant now.

In my experiance , Community scrapes that have over hanging limb are visited year round and branch used.

New farmer for our property
G-Man replied to First-light's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Lots of Forbes grow in hay fields deer love them, may not be the big draw you want during season but will help. The herd overall -
Lots of birds around this year due to hatch success last years dry spring. I have seen hens reappear on camera in groups with Tom's and Jake's as nest must of been destroyed, in successful nests, poults should be hatching anytime now, dry conditions are not predicted..... I see hay mowed everywhere for silage right now, this and the reclaimed fallow fields reduce nesting areas considerably, creation of food plots ( and the clover mowing craze ) and ethanol demand for corn imo reduce the ability for a successful nest. No cover from ground predators, then hawks, owls and eagle will take poults from above easily, not to mention crows and ravens getting eggs as well.

In that case I would be building security cover as thick as possible. Jmo

Hope you dont have coon ,squirrels or oppossum.. or a bear . My experiance any cornfield under and acre is wiped out before deer season especially in milk stage

Broadcasting corn & beans
G-Man replied to suburbanfarmer's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Both bean and corn can be lightly disked in. 1.5 to 2 in deep is best, Soybean will be wiped out unless its large plot 3.5 to 5 acres min. You will find you have more Deer than you think as your plot is gone in days.. -
I hope to repaint this one silver and black, not a fan of red... but to good to pass it up, will be removing 8ft.meyer plow and selling it as I have no use for it..
-
The way I bought it.when I sold it to a collector who wanted it bad. its current condition
-
No a good job would.leave tops below 8 in. For cover and regrowth.. future forestry is a good honest forestry service ,many in logging industry dont like them as they are stickers for proper cutting and removal and resperation of logging roads including water bars and erosion control
-
Use a forester and tell them what you want it cut for lumber or wildlife or a mixture.. if your not up on timber and tree types a forester is by far best way to go. There is no bad side to proper logging. It improves every thing ,hunting, habitat, access..

I agree , I have an 8 ft Gordon with a j bar float.on the 3 pt , works better than most 3pts but still sucks compared to pull type
-
The pull type disk is a keeper . Nothing does a better job been looking for a 12 ft one myself.. 3 pt just are no where near effective
-
Massy harris plow. You drop rear wheel and put other in furrow just made to plow level, I has same plow I used for years does a heck of a job, my wheels finally rotted out so I scrapped it but billboards were still good ,amazing you have both cutter on it, best sod plow I owned
