I've been following some nice sized tracks around the property and after the snow and wind let up....I went out today with Angel...He seemed to be circling us for I crossed his fresh tracks twice then followed them past the cam...pulled the card....How old do you think? how I know it's same deer...it's always alone and the left rear foot hoof has a pronounced splay.....I'm kinda hoping he grows a good rack...good luck says he should...look at the time....lol

Is that a fence around that pine tree in the back or is that a browse-line.

Sorry for the off-topic response, but I truly have no idea about the age of that deer. And the shape of that tree really caught my attention, so I had to ask.

Yes it is ...I need to take the fencing down this spring ...but have to get a green up first or they will destroy the lower branches.....It was planted there way before I planned on having a food plot....The plot came about due to the ground having plow ridges in it..I just couldn't handle mowing it any longer ...so I've been smoothing and de-rocking and smoothing ...planting in the mean time....before putting in a nice clover alfalfa plot...off to the rt is the start of a Pavilion...posts are in ...just can't get him to finish it...lol

I'm thinking it could be that 6pt that followed me around last year...I believe he'd been a  spike then last year a 6pt...he had me thinking on a shot a couple of times...especially when he helped me screw up my first crossbow shot on a doe by showing up....lol...Love the time stamp...he just may turn out to be my...hhmmm.....should I or not? deer next year during bow season....I definitely need to get out and finish dropping all my cull trees....I have some ash lots of the popular a couple of reds and bass wood that need to go with more split maple

We got sleet and freezing rain last night...and there is another crust under the snow fall today....At this point...I'm really hoping that some of the ppl I know that feed deer are doing so..... one neighbor has a "bird feeder...it stands 3ft off the ground and is 4ft long by 2ft wide and has a shingle roof...holds about 100#'s of "bird feed".....I still have a good amount of native grasses that they like in the woods but the elder and perennial plots are just stripped

Ya...Look at his back...his spine is very pronounced....remeber when I shot last years buck and he had ZERO fat.....this long winter isn't good there were a bunch of deer in here trying to find any small turnip they could....

Last years was a nice one. Did ever get the mount back?

This deer sure has a nice start, and being on the downhill side of winter, I'll say the odds of survival are stacked on his side.

I don't have mounts done...just take pics...though Mr. B. did buy nice walnut and cherry plaques to put  a few racks on...just haven't gotten to it yet....One Day I will cross paths with another buck like a couple of years ago....and then a mount will get done....

I hope he does too

  • 3 weeks later...

Josephmrtn...We was a nice buck and that winter I'd come home from camp and Mr. B said, looking out the PC window in a snow storm see the buck? Well there he was 140 yrds away digging through the snow for grass rt under one of my stands.

I said perfect and went to get my shot gun ...the wind was perfect  for a short sneak in and I hadn't filled my buck tag ...it was the last few days of reg season but had taken a nice 8 in bow...OH man Mr. B got mad ...no way was I going to shoot that particular BUCK.....He'd been watching him while on the computer most of the year and I'd been getting  pics of him all summer /fall....He lived to see another snowy day and I never did see him again...I just like to imagine he made it....

Here's a pic of a couple I took one foggy morning 200ft from the kitchen door...just a couple of youngins playing...lol
