Even with trail cameras , some photos are inconclusive. Here is a photo that illustrates it.

I wish I could just make out the head that's behind the foliage .

I "clicked" on the photo to enlarge it...but still have trouble seeing the black tip. If the object that I think I see is the black tip , it would make the tail too long to be that of a bobcat.

click on picture, bottom right corner see the save? when i click on it another page opens with the picture. Then click on view (top of screen) and you should see a zoom

If that is it's tail (and it looks like it is), that cannot be a bobcat. Their tail would not hang down that far. One thing that might help with the ID is some indication as to what state your friend lives in.

When you do zoom in look at the neck. Seems to have two identical short pointy protrusions sticking up. Short pointy ears like a bobcat.

Here is a picture of another Bobcat placed in the original photo. Although the color is different, look at the shoulders and tail. Clearly looks to be a Bobcat.

If what I'm seeing is a "black tip", it does seem like it has a long tail. Just looked it up, and bobcat tails are 4-7".
