Wife made this bean and ground venison dish in a pepper the other night. Had leftovers for lunch yesterday and the pollution hasn't stopped. Figured I wouldn't see anything as a result but had a real wide forky 4 give me a 12 yard broadside shot as he worked a mock scrape. Grow up little buddy.

Something similar here too. Been clinching all morning. Holding it in so long I'm starting to get bad breath.

Not sure if wind keeping them down, fallen leaves makes them feel more open, or too many hunters trample through the public lands I'm hunting but I saw a ton of action earlier this season, right now I see nothing. Absolutely nothing.

This morning was funny in 8f. Calm and warmer than I thought. Then wind picked up. Coulda shot a nice 4 but surprised not to see the doe I usually do. Lot of weird weather shifts going on making picking a stand sort of a coin flip. Hard to pattern as some does may come in to heat early so the bucks will be all over the few that are early. Idk...

I'll tell ya what guys...watch your does body language very closely for they are going to tell you who's in town and who's the main attraction be for you see them...today's doe watched the middle of my woods intently...and I know no one other than deer would be in there...even I skirt that section...they bolted at the bigger buck ...but just stayed cautious around the younger ones....I also have seen the kicking of fawn so some are in estrus or close to it

Unfortunately they are being pushed hard...the road this morning was 15a....not quite as bad as rt 5-20...but seeing it's just us and two others that own on our upper part of road and 3 on the next rd off us...it was a stupid amount of 6am Sunday traffic....

At my evening spot. The wind is in favor for making a move on my target buck tonight. I'm in a pinch point 70 yards from his bed. There's a corn field to my left and a hay field that he frequents behind me. If he heads to either of them he should walk right by me. I saw his tracks all over the place on the way in. This stand has only been hunted once this year. Just need him to show...

Elmo, What state land are you hunting? I hunt a lot of public too and I have to say that it all varies just as much as anyplace else. Of course some gets hit harder than others and that plays into it. However I've done the hike all the way to the middle of heavy pressure areas and seen nothing, conversely I've shot a deer 50 yards from a main access point with multiple trucks parked there during the second week of gun at the same hi pressure property. Other state land areas I have found are practically devoid of human activity during bow season, and some spots are hot and some have no activity, and it changes with the season. The last three deer I've taken were off three diff state land properties, during bow, gun, and late season. Buck and does. Treat it like anyplace else, do ur homework and learn from being there, it will get easier. I recommend not assuming that just cus it's pressured you are out of luck, that's very discouraging. All that said, I am in western NY where densities are hi and I am talking thousand acre plus land tracts at least an hour from major cities.

Sorry if that sounded preachy guys and gals, I'm not dr deer by any stretch, just trying to be motivational:). Sometimes public lads does get trampled but if you bust out the dec lands mapper and look around there are a ton of options if ur willing to drive. You'll find less pressured areas. Check out areas where there are very few DMPs issued;)

No...it's the number of hunters entering and exiting the woods predawn and after dusk....ie hunted. A new set tonight...16 ft up in the crutch of a huge bulk cherry tree....got there at 2:30...at 5:45 I was leaning against the tree trunk and heard motion behind me...all I did was slowly turn my head ..The doe snorted so hard and loud I nearly jumped out of my skin..watched her and her fawn bounding through the golden rod they walking in......nearly every one up here bow hunts..lots of camps around 4 wheelers...gators..ppl..in places they aren' t use to...this has them spooked every place they go and coming in later and later

There  are many more bow hunters than even 5 yrs. ago...woods are crowed every where...even on private parcels

that's tough. there's that constant give and pull between wanting the woods and deer to yourself and wanting hunting tradition and popularity to continue on. at least the guns aren't going off.

sure guns are going off...this is the country!...no one goes to the local gun club...and the ones that do...the club is just a couple of miles away and they host shoots...lol The weekends  are always filled with shooting...but hey,  that's not a problem. it's the damn guys with dogs barking from morning til night...lol

My point was this time of year all woods public.... private are filled ..and with bow season getting more and more popular  all the movement the deer aren't use to puts them on high alert and more nocturnal........ until the rut really kicks in...We as hunters just need to adjust...

Oh and yes...ppl are pushing the woods...be it unintentional...I for one avoid that as much as possible in the way I hunt...especially on the week ends when the camps are full...another reason why I'm so "anal" about making sure all my trails are clean...this week end I walked into 2 different bedding groups...and didn't know it until they got up and stretched....one was 12yrds from the stand....

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
