Jeremy K
https://amp.hothardware.com/news/bidens-infrastructure-bill-mandatory-backdoor-car-kill-switch The 1 trillion dollar handout infrastructure bill includes a section that makes it mandatory to have remote kill switch on all vehicles that can be controlled by a third party via the internet . But at least no mean tweets have come up in the new bill.
Grouse
And there are people out there who still say that bill was all about fixing roads and bridges. Will it actually fix any roads or bridges?
mowin
Not sure if this is part of bidens infrastructure bill or just some law that's been introduced, but I read somewhere that all new vehicles must be speed limited to states max speeds. I just don't see this passing. We all know the State doesn't really give a shit about it citizens, but does care about money coming in and less tickets means less money. Dinsdale
Posts distort infrastructure law’s rule on impaired driving technology; CLAIM: President Joe Biden signed a bill that will give law enforcement access to a “kill switch” that will be attached to ALL new cars in 2026. AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. While the bipartisan infrastructure bill Biden signed last year requires advanced drunk and impaired driving technology to become standard equipment in new cars, experts say that technology doesn’t amount to a “kill switch,” and nothing in the bill gives law enforcement access to those systems. One of my clients in Ct. is involved as an engineering/ hardware supplier to these type systems. Part of it is software technology that analyzes the driver if they are impaired ; same technology is used in other DOD projects. Guy collects Maserati’s; it pays really well. Theres a ton of testing, the inevitable court cases etc, before this becomes a reality.

Grouse
You know Elon Musk was asked to turn off all of the Teslas in Russia when the Ukraine was invaded, right? He refused. He didn't say it couldn't be done. When all upgrades can be uploaded into a car via WiFi, if you don't think the car can be shut off whenever, you are in denial. Laugh while you can fools. The problem is a rookie mistake putting the shiny side in versus out. Happens all the time. Then theres the issue of name brand vs store brand. Them store brands have chinese microchips in them, and the name brands cia/nsa chips. Pick your poison. So you really have to make your own. left field
Hunting NY is a wealth of info. I just got back from Sweden and rented a Volvo. It had this feature on the speedometer that put a red line at the speed limit. It would change the instance you entered a new speed zone. If you went over, it flashed the speed limit at you. Pain in the ass, but Sweden has a zero tolerance for speeding. They can/will fine you for one km over the limit. They also have zero alcohol limit. Designated drivers are a big thing in Sweden. I got used to it. They're already tracking my phone. Edited September 19, 2022 by left field

Jeremy K
It would be a great idea if it was actually true, the whole3rd party access part is a major red flag .Anyone with even a small amount of street smarts and some kind of ability to recognize trends will tell you enough to be suspicious. Bolt action
I don't hate the idea of cars being able to detect a distracted or impaired driving and either turning on auto pilot or automatically pulling the car over. I'd be open to the idea if the reality made sense on the road. With that said, I don't want the government (or their 3rd party) on the button to deactivate cars based on their objectives and agendas. As for the price of aluminum going up, I found the solution for those hats... 3

left field
At first it bugged the hell out of me as I like to drive fast. Then I just went with the flow and since everyone was doing the same speed, we moved very well down the road. I drive to the city yesterday and in massive traffic with assholes driving a few feet off my bumper and weaving in and out of traffic. To get nowhere. Socialism for the win! After recently driving back from Colorado through Wyoming , that 80mph speed limit was awesome. It sucked as we got closer and closer to home. Each state seemed to lower the limit by 5mph.
