Best thermos to keep hot chocolate or coffee hot in cold temps?

Recommended Posts

I like to do all day sits on stand during the rut and late season but sometimes the weather can be brutally cold.  I put hot chocolate in a thermos to get through the really cold days but it seemed like by 9:30 the hot chocolate was already too cold to drink.  I would go through the steps of warming up the thermos first with boiling water for about 5 minutes before I dump that out and add piping hot, hot chocolate...  still cold by 9:30.  I know this year we had some really cold temps but a thermos should still be better than that.  Are any of you familiar with a good quality thermos that keeps liquid hot in the cold temps?

My Stanley keeps my coffee hot all day long. Bout a 5 minute sit with boiling water in it before filling and mine had the pour through top so you don't have to open it all the way us.

Outdoor life magazine tested this earlier in the year and rated the Stanley Adventure 25oz. For $30. The best over the 12 hour testing period, losing 34 degrees in that time.

They list stanley-pmi.com in the article.

I guess if OL says it, it is fact.................. :fie:

I'll take Nissan.

Yeah, I was thinking Stanley too but the reviews are indicating that unless you can find one of the old thermoses it won't be as good, since Stanley started sourcing out and having them built in China the quality and performance has gone way down.

Lawdwaz...It does look like the Nissan's have some really good reviews on Cabelas.

Thanks all for the input so far!

I have an old Stanley and an old Thermos. They both work real well. Prime them, with boiling water for a good 5-10 mins. pour in your coffee (or what ever) then stick the thermos  inside of an old oven mitt, that is big enough to cover most of the thermos, if not all of it. ….Hot all day.

Well pulled mine out to see what brand it is...It's an Avery Neobottle from Avery Outdoors.  The make up seems similar to the Thermos brand but not sure if it's the same quality makeup.  I called Avery Outdoors and spoke to a guy in Customer Service explaining that the thermos wasn't keeping liquids warm even after prepping with boiling water.  I inquired about exchanging it for another Neobottle as the one I have may be defective but was a no go...said that I had it for more than a year and I didn't have a receipt for proof of purchase.  I had it for about 15-16 months and it was a gift, so no receipt...I was advised there was nothing he could do and to have a good day....WOW, not impressed with the customer service at Avery Outdooors!

That green one is a Nissan that has the flip top and you sip right out of it, no cup at all.  Handy dandy for coffee, hot cocoa, tea or bullion.  The heat stays IN because you don't have to break the seal to open it.

The other really important thing is it is only a 16oz capacity thermos.  The brown one is also a 16oz.  Most of the big thermos's are 32oz and too much for me anymore.  If you only fill it half way it'll get cold faster, obviously.

The camo one is a 32oz Nissan and doesn't get much face time anymore because it is too big.  On opening days of NY and PA I take both 16oz jobbers and fill one with hot cocoa and the other with soup.  Some of the others in the picture just seemed to show up one way or the other.  4/7 are Nissan and aren't for sale............
