Woodjr55
Went to gander in tonawanda today because I was bored turns out they are remodeling the store. Did no one tell them that cabelas is opening up soon and they are going to be a ghost town.
fasteddie
I stopped at the Gander Mt in Henrietta Wednesday . They are also remodeling . From the front door back to the guns was all cleared out and looked like a dance floor . Wandered around and they are still overpriced . They wanted $38 for 20 rounds of 25-06 ........ Sure glad that I reload !

Lawdwaz
Tonawanda had a PILE of ammo in stock for pistol shooters earlier this week. 9mm, 40cal and 45cal. Lots of bulk stuff. Oh, and a ton of coolers and pink camo. Edited February 23, 2014 by Lawdwaz
greg54
I was in there last week to pick up an order they had been out of that I had delivered there. It took 35 minutes to get cashed out. The guy and girl working front checkout didn't know how to put in my gift card and rest of what I owed onto my credit card. They had to call the manager who upon arriving at front desk didn't come over to me, he started checking out other customers. I just shook my head. Finally, he comes over , gets me cashed out and apologizes for the delay. I can imagine he says "I'm sorry" to the customers several times a day, if that's the way they operate. ants
Sounds like its the same all over. The Gander near me NEVER has enough people working and their ammo is always over priced. I think that they know that they are the only game in town (at least for now) and really don't care if customers wait or have to pay higher prices. Eventually it will bite them in the a$$. Doc
What on earth is the Henrietta Gander Mountain going to do when a real store (Field and Stream) comes to town. I guess they have two choices. Either straighten up their act and make it a real competition, or just close their doors and give up the Rochester area. I'd like to see the two of them fight it out.
Lawdwaz
I'd bet GM is only spending a couple hundred thousand per store, if that. So the money is minor in the big scheme of things. I have no experience with Field & Stream stores. Are they just a Dick's Hunting Lodge Super Sized? If so, I'll pass on that too. I don't like all this crap with THEIR brand name line GM and Dick's does. Seems they are trying to emulate the model that Cabela's started years ago but the difference being Cabela's stuff was better quality IMO. I guess we'll have to wait and see, but my understanding was that it was to be like a Bass-pro/Cabelas style store. But I don't know where I got that idea. Perhaps just wishful thinking.....lol. Four Season Whitetail's
I'm sure they all know more than we do when it comes to some of the hunting stuff. Maybe they know the heads up of some of the new laws coming down from the state? Sales may be down big time and they can make more money on the weekend warrior/camper yuppies that like to do their thing. I know my and many i know spending for hunting stuff has dropped big time. I mean by now we have everything there is to be needed for hunting..ie.Bows,guns and such and its a fact that there are not as many new hunters so the sales are down there big time also. Then we have the online thing. I myself spent over $700 the last couple weeks from ordering things online. Times are a changin!!! The more competition the better it will be for us as consumers. I believe iirc Gander was bought a few years ago and I can't recall if they were already on the way down and the new owners were going to save the place or if the new owners created the problems. I too have waited more than I should just to check out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
WNYBuckHunter
I was in the Henrietta Gander twice in the last week and a half. They are doing a pretty good job reorganizing the store IMO. The gun and archery sections are being completely redone, and they are supposedly going to have 1000+ guns on hand at all times. The last two times i have been there, I've gotten good prices on things. My R700 VTR, and a kids camo jacket that was 60% off. Some stuff is pricey, but if you look, youll find good stuff. My biggest complaint is the lack of staff, and the wait at the gun counter. Ive had the same complaints at Bass Pro in Auburn though. We will see what Field & Stream turns out to be. I have yet to visit one of their stores, and wont pass judgement either way until i see what its all about. The site work over by Marketplace has begun. Woodjr55
Was in gander today the remodel looks good but everything is still over priced and still no one around to help you out. They do have a ton of guns in selection thou
phade
Gander was going down and was taken private by a firm that is known to strip down a company to make it profitable again and then resell. Problem is, they are having a tough time making the company profitable enough to sell. This massive store redesign is likely a sign they feel they can do this finally, because they'll want to sell with the updates fresh. Probably a sign that Gander is at least break even. Red
I'm not sure of the date they are opening but I just got the word that in 3 weeks I have to go down there and dig 2 holes at 60" diaeter by 54" deep and another hole at 60" diameter by 66" deep. I've been laid off for the past 3 months that's gonna be a nice way to go back to work lol
hunter49
Cabelas is due to open in summer of 2014, I heard August sometime. I was in Gander in Ton. yesterday & I can't beleive their prices, there nuts! I went looking for fishing tackle. Spoons are 2x of other stores even the ma & pop bait shops are cheaper. Rapalas are $8-10 bucks. Fish line high priced, musky lures $29.00 ! I don't know how they stay open? I am pretty sure Cabelas will put them out. I won't go back. The big Gander sign was gone off the front of the building, no name at all. Edited March 25, 2014 by hunter49

Lawdwaz
I was in Gander yesterday and was really surprised at (in my opinion) the stupidity. 150' of gun cases and two-tier gun racks, nice touch. EXCEPT the fact that they have two guys manning the counter; one is tied up with a customer at one end and the other is playing with his NIP at the other end. Two lug nuts are moving long guns from the lower rack to the upper. I say "HEY, can I see one of these Ruger Blackhawks?" The Boss Lug Nut says "sorry sir, we HAVE to get this done" then turns around and goes back to managing the movements of the Jr Lug Nut with the gun transfer to the upper rack. OK, why in the frig don't you holler for Mr NIP puller at the end of the counter? Nope. I waddle down and have NIP puller show me the gun. (that was over priced by 20%) Thanks for the help guys.... The gun cases are black inside, NOT the best for viewing. The used handguns are not marked with the manufacturer name, only the damned model number. Brilliant............. I looked at three Ruger's, one was mis-marked as a .44 Magnum and really was a .44 Special. I pointed that out as a fairly important detail that should be corrected. Mr NIP Puller scratched his bean and said to the Boss Lug Nut, "HEY, is this guy right. Is this marked wrong?" BLN agreed and said he'd change the tag when they got all the low racked guns into their proper spots. I'd had enough at that point and moved on..................................................... Oh yea, remember how I was bragging up their archery lanes back in January? They're gone. Storage area now. Come on Cabela's
ants
Total B.S… blowing off a customer to move guns from one spot to another? it seems like thats something that should take a back seat to a customer at the gun counter. Maybe the goof was busy doing something else when they were covering that in retail 101 class. That would have struck a big nerve with me. waterweasle
you shoulda went and told the manager that you were looking at buying today, but due to the lack of help you're going elsewhere................if anything just to rub it in
dirt_a_KISS
thats just plain disrespectful in my opionin. I can't believe their archery lanes are gone, that was one of the major reasons why i went to Gander Mountain.
