Doc
Growie- Listen to Mr. B !!! The brunch is sounding so much better all the time.....lol. No, seriously.....I have never heard of a tomato pie. I can't imagine what could be done to tomatoes to make them taste good in a pie. But if you ever come across a recipe, be sure to post it. It would be interesting to see what it looks like. Too bad I haven't tasted your friend's tomato pie, I'm pretty confident I'd be able to tell you what makes it different or better than anyone else's. Why not just take a shot at it, I'm sure it will be fine, and possibly tweak it and improve it next time you make it?

I think we have a tendency to prefer foods we eat growing up. I have yet to meet anyone that cooks better Italian food than my grandmother did, but I may be biased. lol For a small city, Utica may give Brooklyn a run for its money I bet and it ain't my hometown. growalot
Nicky the biggest thing is probably the fact I didn't have to cook it. Though I think as far as ingredients hers is closest to the 3rd link,Martha's,just in a pie pan. One reason she won't give it out is she always did the broccoli salad, for gatherings. One year she wasn't there so I made my version...then I was asked to bring it every gathering...I use a bit less sugar more shaved carrots, then cheese, home made flavored vinegar and cranberries with the wht. raisins ,far less dressing over all so the flavors popped and weren't drowned....It was apparently an issue so she refused to give any recipes out after that..
The_Real_TCIII
Martha needs to get over that, it was a long time ago.

LOL Depends on the variety of poontang pie you are interested in, Steve. If your palate prefers fresh/ripe, I would suggest any SUNY school. If your palate prefers aged like a fine wine or steak, I would suggest the bar area at any fine dining restaurant.

BizCT
I'll tell you who has the worst food. Lake George! I used to go up there all the time and can never find anywhere decent to eat. I can eat anything and even I can't do it up there. I'll never forget waiting 2 hours to eat at some Italian place that was packed with people having a good time. I got chicken Francese and it was definitely frozen chicken tenders heated up with 2 lemons on top. I lost it, walked out and drove to mcdonalds Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Doc
The internet is full of tomato pie recipes. The pictures all look completely different. Some of them use ripe tomatoes, some use green tomatoes. Some really do look like pizza other ones look like a regular piece of pie. Apparently tomato pies are not as rare as I thought. I never even heard of such a thing until you mentioned it. Every section of the country seems to have their own version. But I've got to say that the whole idea kind of squicks me out a little. But then I'm not a real big fan of tomatoes in anything.
