New PSE

I recently decided to get more serious about training again - time to really get in shape - which means less time for shooting.  I am already really sore from kicking it up a notch.  (as an aside, I am down 12lbs so at least heading in the right direction)

Recognizing that the recurve may have to take a back seat for a while (still plan on using it this season to the extent I remain shooting well), I couldn't just live with my one and only compound.  Found a brand new 2018 PSE evolve 31 (debated on the 35 but couldn't pass up the 31 at this price and my current compound is 32 - close enough) for $545 and bought it at the recommendation of a tuner in VA (Breathn) that I trust.  I didn't actually buy the bow from him as he was out of stock.  But he said it is the best cam design he has ever worked with.  Shipping today.  Not sure if it will be set up by this season.

I was never a PSE guy as I thought they were generally speed bows with the related harsh draw and shock.  But Breathn convinced me that their new offerings are top notch, smooth and fast - he sells elite, obsession, PSE and one more that I can't remember.  Taking a chance on this having never shot one, but at this price I am sure I can sell it without much of a loss if its not as great as I have heard.  Anyone here shoot one?    Just curious if we have any personal experience.  The reviews I read were good and more than anything I trust Breathn.  He knows his way around bows and understands my preferences.

A little compound tuning and easy accuracy might be a nice break.

Congrats on your weight loss and get in shape plan!  Good for you buddy!

Congrats on the new bowToo!!  Post up some pic's of it and what you think, once it arrives!

Thanks Dave.  Planned on it last year and failed/let is slide.  But I keep reminding myself that there ain't too many older people walking around that weigh in the 300s.  lol

Breathn is the guy. He has done some work for me. The new PSEs are nice. Has a carbon air and a Decree. Good luck with her. Hope you put down a stud.

On the weight loss front I fill your pain. Every day is a battle of good choices and it only gets harder.

John really is top notch - both in knowledge and as a person.

Good for you rob.  I would like to shed 60-70 myself.  NO need to be the defensive lineman anymore.  I think my draft chances are over.  lol

Got Weather Tec, front and rear , ordering a console safe, camo seat cover, and got a locking tonneau cover picked out . Would like to remove the drop in liner and go to sprayed on at some point , although carpet is running a close second . It’s easy to,lose weight when there’s no money left for food.....

Been fun so far ,hope to,have blood dripping out the tailgate soon .

I had spray on.   I like the bed rug better and blood sprays right out.   No stains.

Congrats on the new bow, let us know how she shoots. The weight loss thing is tough I’m right around 300 too and it’s been a slow process but I always loose weight during hunting season lol

I got a used 2017 PSE Evolve a couple of months ago.  Tunes easily and shoots great!  The let-off on the bow is amazing.  I feel like I can hold it back indefinitely.  A great step up from my Hoyt Charger.  Your going to love it!

Dave

Thanks Dave.  That’s what I was hoping to hear.

So I quickly set up the new PSE evolve last night.  No real tuning but set to factory specs.  28.5'DL and 71lbs.  Holding weight was only 7lbs set at 90% let off.  Nice being able to set DL and let off without pressing it or changing mods.  It is a very smooth bow, no significant hump and huge valley.  A little thump on the shot, but not overly aggressive at all.  Averaged 274fps with 516g arrows for KE of 86ft lbs.  Held great and at 20yds (which is all I sighted in so far) it was dangerously accurate for groups.  Overall, I think its a great bow.  Look forward to fine tuning it.

By way of comparison, my 82lb obsession phoenix has almost identical performance but at 11lbs heavier.  That says something about the evolve cams.

My border recurve shoots 720g arrows at 174fps but I guess that's not a fair comparison.  lol
