Gosh it seems a little early, but seen a spike mostly free of his velvet while heading to a clients property. 

Usually I see the mature bucks cleaned off before the youngsters.

I have hardhorn pics (i think anyway) from a week ago, buddy 5 minutes away all the deer on cam are still in velvet.

When I hunt squirrels the first week of September, usually about half the bucks I see are clean..By mid-month, nearly all of them are clean...Sept 1 is only a few days away....

Don’t know and don’t care about the velvet but if you have young-ish trees you’d better think about wrapping them PDQ.

I saw a spike with hard horns out by the Dec place in New Paltz but I have also seen 2 others in velvet  looks like a 4 and a 6.

I've been hanging chunks of Irish Spring soap on mine the last few years and it seems to keep the deer away from them.

I actually was having a lot of trouble with them tearing up my trees before I started doing that and they have left them alone since.  It certainly isn't because I've killed very many.

Tacks is the official judge and prize giver, but I'm not 100% sold there isn't velvet on there. Looks too thick out to end of main beam.
