Thanks everyone . It's going to take some getting used to Max being gone . I removed his dishes , emptied and washed out his litter box and removed as much of his stuff as I could . It seems weird not having him come around looking to be petted . I have a lot of his toys , food , cat litter , etc to get rid of . 4 of my kids have cats so that won't be a problem . Thanks again ! 

We are having Max cremated so he will still be with us .

Makes me wonder how rough it's going to be for my oldest daughter . She gets to pull the plug on me . I try not to piss her off !

Animals give us so much, unconditionally, and we can't help but get caught up in a bond that is so painful to break. I am sorry to hear about Max, and I completely understand the feeling of loss that you are going through.
