JD 2305

Picked up a very clean JD2305 subcompact which is the predecessor to the 1025 series.

I basically wanted a big MFWD MMM with compact utility features like the light loader and the 18hp 3pt.

Scored it all with this late model with a 62” deck and Quick attach loader...Would like to get some more aggressive tires wondering if anyone has any HDAP or R4 experience with the 1 series SCUTs?

Anybody done any cool or unique work with one?

Nice score on a good tractor, hope it’s good to you! I opted for the ag tires on mine. The few folks I know that have or had R4’s didn’t like them. But that all depends on your usage. With the mower deck, if your going to be riding on a lawn at all, ag tires will tear that lawn up.

It’s gonna mow the 3 open undulated lawn acres at the road frontage of the 37 wooded we are purchasing...it’s gotta cross a brook and go up and down about 30-40 ft in the process so a little tear up is not a concern.

Also have a lot of post holes to dig with it and will eventually get a hoe.

Definitely would like to take it into the woods have plenty of good trails could be real useful in tandem with my 825i gator...that’s the main reason I’m looking at either R1, HDAP or R4, light forest work.

First job will probably putting down a gravel pad for my rv and then planting a dozen big arborvitae as a screen.

Contract was signed a month ago, funds are consolidated and liquid (pulled vested stock at a 52 week high 2 mondays ago, nice), title is getting pulled this week hopefully we are in possession by mid-march. I've had the rug pulled out from under me before but things look real good.

Real question is, is it geared or is it hydrostatic? Until I know I don’t know if I should say nice tractor or nice lawn mower.

Congrats on both purchases.. If you're dealing with woods and any slopes I would recommend the R1 .. R4 are decent but not great for mud or snow IMO.. My sub compact 28hp CAT with R4 tires does ok, but not well with slippery slopes and or snow. The last thing you want is to get sideways or something on a slope in the woods.. But you also have to weigh your options on what you will be using the machine for the most..

Congrats on a great tractor.

I've got a set of R1 and R4 for my 3320. It's a different animal with R1s. But I use my tractor on a lot a client's lawns, so the R4s get more use.

It all depends on your soil type, regarding what tires are best. My dad has an older JD CUT about that size (model 770 I think). It is a 2 wheel drive and does ok for light foodplotting work (bush-hog, disk, drag, cultipacker, etc) with turf tires. His ground is high, well-drained and mud is never an issue. I don't think it would do so good at my place however, which is all dark, mucky, low-lying soil, and poorly-drained. I usually need 4 wheel drive with loaded R1 tires, if I want to get my spring tillage done on time. Some years with heavy spring rains (like last year), even that did not work. I could not get any spring plantings in last year for the first time ever.

If you don't have to deal with mud, you might be fine with 4 wheel drive and turf tires. If you do need to deal with mud on occasion (or snow/ice), then a set of tire chains for the front and back might be a good option. Turf tires with chains will provide significantly better traction in any conditions than R4 (industrial) tires without chains.
