Versatile_Hunter
I came across this the other day while grouse hunting. I’m assuming this box is meant to house a trap. Anyone have any experience with this and what folks are likely targeting with this?
grampy
Looks to be a coon trap set up.

LOL I was more worried with my dog’s nose poking in there. Looked to be empty. I guess a conibear goes in there

DirtTime
That's the voting box for Biden supporters. I'm sure they won't be happy about this being posted to the public. 3
Steve D
3 hours ago, Versatile_Hunter said: what folks are likely targeting with this Known as a cubby where a body-gripping trap will be set once the season opens. Sometimes they get pre-baited to get the animal coming to the trap on a regular basis. Not knowing your location makes it difficult to determine the targeted species but judging from the size in the picture it could be coon but if it is near water more than likely for mink or weasel. Normally it wouldn't be used for coon since most are using DP's (dog proof) or leg hold traps for coon. Kind of early to have them out but maybe it is a location the individual uses every year and was just left there from last season to be used this season or they just forgot it was there.
Water Rat
Looks like a cubby box for trapping fishers/raccoons and a mighty nice one at that. It looks to be NY compliant since the laws changed years ago. The connibear traps sits back far enough in the trap as to not catch domestic dogs and the opening appears to be less than the 10" requirement. You can see the half moon shape opening in the front that makes it legal. Years ago it was legal to set a trap in a 5 gallon bucket until the DEC receive complaints of dogs being killed in them. Now it's almost impossible for a dog to be killed in a cubby box if the laws are followed.
Versatile_Hunter
Found another one. This one’s opening looks too small for a raccoon. It was near water.
