Hello All, I recieved a letter today from the North American Hunting Club. It came with a pamplet syaing if I sign up for the club I can become a field test panel member. Becuase I sign up I can recieve a cook book and knife as a free gift. The letter goes on to tell me I will get to test hunting gear and keep it if I fill out a survey. The club costs a dollar a month and you recieve information and magazines. I am not sure if this is a scam or some sort and was wondering if anyone else recieved this. Seems to be to good to be true. Also if it is true is there hidden costs or soemthing at the end. Thanks for reading and look forward to your input.

Don't do it, if it looks like a rat...if it smells like a rat....you know the rest. They send me the books I didn't order, whole bunch of other stuff no one needs and nothing I wanted and asked for, this is a big darn advertising scam...at least that is my experience with them...they are useless...period.

Yes you can field test. For my dads ~30 yrs of being a member we've done two things. Camo stickers for your face...what the f****?? And a kick ass knife sharpener, that we love. we also used to receive stupid coins, backpacks, and knifes but an aggravated phone call ended that a few years ago.

I have recieved some nice stuff from them, both purchased and free to test and keep. When I signed up years ago for life membership,I recieved a real nice pair of binos(Pentax) that I still use today. I recently got the beard collector turkey mounting plaque from here..http://masterofskulls.com/index.php

About 2 years ago I got a real nice portable seat for hunting from them. I bought some other stuff as well that I'm happy with. They don't send books and junk to me anymore and then ask for $....in the beginning they did. Now they just send mail and ask if I would be interested,I suppose they got tired of paying the shipping both ways for something they sent i didnt want.

I have been a member of the NAHC for several years . I have gotten a couple of fairly decent items to field test and keep --- A mat for cleaning guns on and a gadget that clips to yout belt and fastenens to your camera / binos so you can retrieve them if you drop them from your stand .

Also got some wipe pads with mosquio repellant , a spool of orange thread to tie the thread to a bowstring to tell wind direction .

You might not get anything to Field Test for 2-4 years and it might be some crap anyway .

The magazine you get is pretty good but the free knife is junk .

I've been a life member for about 15 years.... don't expect much in the way of free stuff to field test... their magazine is good though.. and there are no hidden costs that I have seen... I expected much more from the club... but once they have your money you won't hear much from them...

I joined a few years ago and cancelled it when they started sending me books. I dont want to have to remember to ship them back. I have had them try and get me to join a few other times, but I dont bother with it.

That was the same crap the NRA tried with me years back. I couldn't get them to stop so I dropped the membership....I got it back a few years ago and they haven't done it ot me since.

When the NAHC was sending me books that I didn't order I sent them back and requested that they stop . When they continued to send them , I read them and gave them away . I got a couple bills and I got back to the NAHC and told them that I don't pay for unsolicitated items . No more books and no more bills !

I've been getting letters from them for years. I've been tempted a few times, but I figured they're never gonna send me a nice rifle or shotgun to test, only some little item that I wouldn't care much about. I'm glad to hear my instincts were correct. As for sending books, that reminds me of when I was a kid and signed up for the Columbia Music Club. You'd get something like 20 records for a dime, but then every month they'd send you a record (you had to agree to buy X number over the next year). If you want it you pay, but you could simply send it back. Problem is, what kid is gonna remember to send it back each month. Nothing but a royal pain in the arse! I bet a few guys remember that club, if you're old enough to know what a record is...LOL!!!

I joined as a life member close to 20 years ago. I got a real nice leather jacket and a cool little pocket knife. I still have both. For what I paid back then it is already paid off and I will get the rest of my life of their magazine. I have tested numerous products. Scents, glow tacks, tarp, a coyote caller and a couple other things and I did get a muzzleloader to test one year. I got nothin but good things to say about my experience with them. The field tests can be years in between so do not join for that alone it is just a perk. I was reguarily on their forum but a year or two ago they did something to it and it got so slow I could not deal with it.

In the beginning I got sent a few things on a test basis, coins books.... A couple calls and returned items later and they stopped that.

Ive been a life member for about 15 years now. Figured it was a good deal being I was in my late 20's. Kinda had the same experience as you guys. Calendars, books and so forth looking for money. I must be missing out on the field testing because in all these years I don't remember them sending me anything to test. I know they sent me a questionaire a few years back if I was interested in field testing. I sent it back with a"YES" but still never had anything sent to me. I got the jacket and the gun pad too for being a life member. I do like the magazine. It's funny though because last week I received an envelope in the mail from them with an inquiry if I wanted to still receive my Lifetime membership benefits because they haven't "HEARD" from me in a while. Maybe they think I kicked the bucket.....LOL. I'm supposed to contact them if I still want the benefits. There was additonal info in the envelope to see if I wanted to upgrade my Life membership to "TROPHY LIFE MEMBERSHIP" for of course.....more MONEY. Sounds to me like the NAHC is in need of some new funds and they came up with this scam. Let me upgrade to a different Life membership so I can send them more money and still see no benefits...... NOT GONNA HAPPEN.I threw the whole thing in the garbage.

Had the same thing with Buckmasters. Then they wanted names and numbers of friends to sign up. When I refused that, they quit sending crap and I got out. But when I joined a got a sweet western buck knife set I still use.

The NAHC is worth the membership fee just for the magazine and the online forum. Don't sign up on a deal that allows them to send you anything except the free stuff they offer you to join. If they send you anything they try to bill you for, if you didn't sign for it, you never received it, and they can't bill you for it.

As far as free field test items go, if you get anything, consider it a bonus. I've been a member since 1988 and have gotten many things to test. But I'd say only 1 thing ever 4 years or so, and most things are not worth a lot of money. Still it's fun to get something to test and fill out the survey for them.

Thanks for all your input. I am going to look into joining the club. The free feild tests are not a huge issue becuase I spend to much money on my own doing my own feild tests! ;) I am just not to fond of them sending me and billing me. Then I have to worry about getting it back to them. But the magazine and forum would be nice to check out. Just making sure this was not a total scam!

I actually joined BMG music club. Same concept though. Got tired of sending back unwanted CDs.
