Waiting now that hunting season is over. Even though I want to go down south. Adirondack surf and turf. Venison and perch. Love me some Sunnie's and blue gill and perch occasionally a Pike. Buckets full $8 a pound live weight or 8 lb fileted. Lots of work but worth it.

As of right now, most all the local lakes in the capitol region are still open water. Hope to get some ice by the end of January?? In the mean time, use extreme caution whenever venturing out! Be Sure, there is enough ice to hold you and your gear.

Couple of buddies of mine used to go to the one on Tuscarora lake. Never caught a fish or even seen one caught.  Lol.  I've fished it open water and caught some bass and an occasional walleye. 

But they always went to the blue canoe after and one of them won something every year in the drawing. It was too funny.  He won some nice gear!

I was hoping the current Temperature drop will be around for at least a week ( imagine hoping for cold weather ) and maybe start the freeze up !

Looks like ice fishing and snowmobiling will become shorter and shorter seasons,   liking the milder temps as does my pocketbook paying for heating bills.

"potential" Noreaster on Friday.  It hasn't gotten above 15 here yet today. But doesn't look like it's gonna be long enough to build any safe ice.  44 by wed.

I go to the Tuscarora Lake derby most years. I usually set up some tip ups and let any kids around take care of the flags. A few years ago, one of the kids won 50-60 bucks for a pickeral he caught off my tip up. He was trying to split the money with me, But I settled for a burger and fries so he could keep most of the money. Good kid. He was still trying to give me more money afterwards.

Like Rob said, they do have a great raffle after the derby, with all sorts of prizes, some of them good, some not so good. But, it all goes to the lake association I believe.
