  1. It never fails but every time I go hunting I always forget to bring my troubles with me. Odd.

  2. true...but it's good...I got this in an e-mail today... COLUMBINE STUDENT'S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER !! COLUMBINE STUDENT'S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER !! Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness.. The following is a portion of the transcript: "Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers. "The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart. "In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best. Your laws ignore our deepest needs, Your words are empty air. You've stripped away our heritage, You've outlawed simple prayer. Now gunshots fill our classrooms, And precious children die. You seek for answers everywhere, And ask the question "Why?" You regulate restrictive laws, Through legislative creed. And yet you fail to understand, That God is what we need! "Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts. "As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone! My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!" - Darrell Scott Do what the media did not - - let the nation hear this man's speech. Please send this out to everyone you can. God Bless

  3. Your usual 1000 word essay of worthless gibberish. You really have little understanding of hunting and hunters. You just see it from your selfish perspective. People hunt for different reasons. You may enjoy hunting 20 years without killing anything, but most of the rest of us go hunting to put something down and into the freezer. Or at least we want to know that we are allowed to kill something with the license we purchase. If we hunt in areas where doe permits are almost impossible to get and only bucks of 3 points to a side can be taken, it makes little sense to hunt for many. We can go into the woods at any time of the year and enjoy the outdoors in other ways without ever needing to give the DEC our money for a license to be allowed to shoot next to nothing.

  5. Right on Doc . If people don't like the ways things are working , get involved and make changes . Spend your time , money , energy , etc and make things happen . Write letters , have meetings , do whatever is necessary to make changes . Just complaining about the way things are isn't going to cut it !

  6. Well, there ya go. The silent majority is indeed silent, aren't they? So what good are they? And who cares about their opinions and how they think the world is suffering? The fact is that the organizations that you are whining about are active, energetic, advocates for what they believe. If you don't like it then take your whining somewhere besides internet forums and play the game the way it is supposed to be played. Nobody cares that you don't have the spine to do anything but complain. I get a bit irked everytime I see these people claiming "Well gosh, their views don't represent me". Get over it ..... if there are so many people who disagree with ARs and the NYB views then stop your crying and get involved like those people did. If you can't work inside of those groups then start your own. Put your damn money and effort where your mouth is instead of just moaning about those that do. I'm sorry if I appear to be coming on a little strong about this, but it is just something that finally had to be said. Enough of this worthless bashing. If you have such strong feelings about these issues then do something useful and worthwhile about it.

  7. Last Bow season i got to my lease a little early, The stand i planned on hunting that morning was about 500yds across this fresh cut hayfield and there was a full moon, So as im walking i get a text from my brother and saw how early it was so i decided to really take my time, Thats when i saw it, the cutest black cat, now ive seen this cat everyday and im thinking im going to see if i can pet this kitty, So i started saying hey kitty, kitty and walking toward it, When i got about 5 feet away mister kitty decided that he was gonna show me that he really wasnt a cat at all, So now im standing there 5ft from one pissed off skunk he lifted his tail and started stomping his feet, Thats when i decided that i should get out of there and should do it as fast as i could, So now im running and i think im doing a decent job at it, when i look back this skunk is chasing my big rear end across, this hay field in the middle of the night under a full moon and he is gaining ground, I cant tell you he was going to do when he caught me but i really didnt want to find out, so i kept running, I eventually get away from him and made it too my stand, where i get phone call from my brother, Laughing his a$$ off because he watched the entire thing go down, So now its one of his favorite stories to tell people, and everytime he even smells a skunk around i will get a text from him and all it says is "rihlmao" and that means rolling in hayfield laughing my a$$ off,

  9. The sience majority of NY deer hunter have been left out to dry. The sad part is that it is not from organizations like PETA and others .it is coming from our own fraternity of selfish. selfcentered, and greedy NY so called deer hunters. A small group of people have cried so loud that they have gotten more DMZ areas put in AR . The advocates for AR have put a limit on others opportunities. The AR people think they are TV hunters , they think they are great hunters and tough luck to others who only want to deer hunt and harvest a deer. The hunting camp I belong to has 35 members with a doz. out of state hunters and we are lucky to see a deer, let alone a legal buck and that is in DMZ 40 , one of the new zones in AR. I have heard that some of the out of state hunters are giving up hunting in NY because of AR Most are saying it cost to much to sit in the woods knowing they will not see a legal buck and with no doe tags to boot, they are going to look else where. Some of people have been members for over 20 years. Thankyou advocates of AR ,you have gotten what you wanted by having fewer deer hunters in the woods so you can have the deer to yourselfs. If that is not selffish ,I don't know what you would call it. An other sad thing about AR is it is not good deer management and that is fact, don't believe me read up on it and find out for yourself. Another group of selfish greedy so called deer hunters are the NY Bowhunters coalition. They cry about everything. They don't want anyone in the woods in their season. They cried that the bow wasn't long enough, so NY gave them another two weeks and the NY Bowhunter turn around cried because NY wanted to have three days in their bow season to have a youth deer hunt. Come on you big cry babies. They cried about having crossbows during bow, they say that it is like carring a gun. Come on cry babies, I hunt with a bow and I can shoot my compound out to 40 yards as good or better than most crossbows. and as far as taking a deer it is like shooting ducks on a pond.

  10. I have seen an awefull lot of threads and comments on broadhead selection and one of the reoccuring theme's is that fixed, and sometimes mechanical broadheads do not fly the same as field points. It can be a hair pulling frustrating time of the year for us bowhunters but it doesn't need to be. Provided you are shooting properly spinned arrows it can be simple. Even if you have a decent tune on your bow you may still experience this issue and here is how to fix it. Shoot a mix of Broad head and field point tipped arrows, note where the groups are and where they differ. Consitancy is important in this phase, you have to do your job of shooting well to make it count. As an example, I have field points hitting and grouping great but my BH's are grouping low and right. To fix this I will move my rest in the direction I want the arrow to go right or left and the opposite for up and down. In my example I will move the rest to the left about 1/16 and try again, sometimes little adjustments help a lot so don't go crazy with movements of the rest. You may also see the up and down direction corrected once you are on so work on one direction at a time. Keep at it untill your broad heads and field points are grouping the same, once they hit and group in the same spot adjust sights accoudingly and presto, you have a tuned bow ready to go! You may also have great groups at 20 and less so at 30 and beyond, broadhead tuning will fix this too. In the end you may notice your field points grouping better aswell. Another thing I do is mark the rest where I can with a marker so I know how far I am moving and where I started from. Last year I had a new string put on and the overzealous fella that did it "helped me out" by moving my rest and fixing my center shot, of course it made things a pain for me this summer to re-tune my rest but luckily I had the rest marked and returned it to normal in short order.

  14. Hey Jackass it would be quit not quite. You are indeed a moron and have proven so many times on this forum, especially with some of your "advice" you give. I suggest you stick to playing northwoods hunter once or twice a year and stay down there the rest of the year.

  15. Some more jibberish from someone who didn't even read the bloody report. Why the hell does the DEC call AR's a social issue then? So the rest of us have to abide by hunting laws created because some hunters have "social issue" concerns with shooting a buck less than 3 points to a side?? Talk about a crock. Maybe you should stop and study who the real whiners are with this issue.

  16. Ok...I'll rephrase. Daylight movement of decent deer comes to a stop. I will see plenty of small does and fawns.

  21. I agree totally. The other big barrier we have is out state govt. The majority and I know I will get hell from this one, form the city area who represent us work hard against hunting. Look up records of senators and legislators and see how they vote against everything to do with hunting and see how they vote. It is tough in such a majority liberal state to get keep things going. We are still waiting on crossbows changes in Albany as well as a youth hunt. Everything is a political game.

  22. I know something that will get the young back into hunting and that is the need for meat. Maybe instead of trying to get a dead horse to stand again we should just let economics and our poor financial outlook for the future of our young take its course, you might see the need for food make hunting a popular pastime again, kinda how alot of our fathers found such an interest in the sport in the first place.

  24. I think you have a good point. In today's world much has to do with money. Years ago most of those that hunted lived on the land or very near land that could be hunted. Today, you either have money and can take time off to travel or you still live near or on the land you can hunt. Living in a metropolitan area where you have to travel 4-5 hours to hunt, is tough, especially if making money to support your family is the priority.

  25. I think that the diminishing availablity to hunting land is one of the reasons for hunter decline... I can think of numerous places I hunted as a kid that are either a neighborhood now or has been bought up and posted by new owners... I also know many EX hunters that lost their favorite hunting spot and just never took the time to find a new spot... many farmers that years ago let hunters use their property for deer hunting have stopped or limited hunting because of past abuse or overuse of their property. Not sure what the answer is, but I bet lots of those ex-hunters would probably start again if they had a solid hunting spot to hunt. When I was offered the opportunity to lease property I immediately determined how many fellas could hunt comfortably on the acreage available and called that many friends that I knew didn't have solid hunting spots and gave them the opportunity have a place that they could count on to hunt... it definitely rekindled the fire under many of their butts to get out and enjoy hunting again.

  26. My buddy Wally drove to PA with another guy to archery hunt for a few days. First night he walks to his stand, climbs up and goes to nock an arrow and finds out he left his bow quiver at home, in Buffalo. He climbs down, heads across the field to his buddies stand and whispers, "hey Gerry, can I borrow a couple arrows"? (Maybe you had to be there to appreciate it?) Classic!

  27. 25 years ago I was coming out in the dark from an evening bowhunt in PA. I was going down a trail between the standing corn and heavy woods, thinking "man is it dark"! Could be a bear in that corn, looking for a fat, easy meal. Mere seconds later...........my buddy jumps out from behind me in the corn and hollers like a ENRAGED BROWN BEAR!! I just about crabbed my Jim Crumley outfit. SOB...........

  29. Your judging the church based on a minorities actions as Soggard already pointed out. What would happen if we judged all democrats based on your comments. I know several democrats and I am even friends with some but they, unlike yourself can put together a well reasoned argument. One reason (outside religion) is school performance. Catholic schools generally outperform a good portion of the public schools. My kids school is top in the county and usually ranks in the top ten for all of western NY every year. And they do it at about half the cost of what the public schools end up being. Are you an ex-catholic by any chance? i get the feeling that there is something deeply rooted in all this hate that you post. Congrats on bating me into posting now i will let grouse continue dealing with you, i would rather spend my time with my kids making sure they are raised right.
