Sorry all im on my cell so posting is hard....esp with pics. I had a slam dunk on a 140 10 that was screwed by another hunter who was NOT supposed to be there. Was a real bummer as i had to watch the buck go under my set from 100 yds away in a blind that i had also set. Boy was I miffed. The other hunter really screwed me over and worse his entry was dead wrong, and i watched the buck pass my set and then go on alert as he picked up the hunters trail. The hunter never knew he was there. That sent the buck nocturnal for the most part over the past week. I got several cam pics of him going to and from bedding 20 min on the bad side of hunting time every single day that week. Last night after taking care of the fil's doe, the owner called the neighbor farmer and told him to cut down the corn bordering the ground. They are buddies. This field of corn is 300 continous acres of mature corn. The call went out at 10 and by 2 i was met with the below pic at my stand. Since it was the last night farmer asked we burn our tags on a feeding mouth. I agreed as long as it had antlers it was going down - people in ohio really do help one another and it was the least i could do. This landowner and farmer are awesome. We used a 50k jd to toss the deer in the bucket and to gut. Even made use dinner, and honestly, was refreshing to see. I bought a stand for the owner and put it up for him as he xbow hunts from time to time maybe 4-5x a season. Anyhow, i set up and the deer were abandoning the corn as the combine went by. Had a fork come out down wind and i turned him with a short can call. He stopped in the field 40 and i was waiting to draw when the combine had made its way back to this side of the field, which took about 15 min to make one pass. The buck slipped back into the corn. As the combine left, light faded down to last 15 min. Lots of does filtered out and four got to 30 yds and i was going to shoot after all, just to help out these people. So what if i burned an either sex on a doe, on my last night. They picked up my scent stream in the corner amd started head bobbing, but i think my predator camo really helped keep them around for 5 min. A 2.5 rounded the corner and sent the does into the woods. He worked the scrape, which was huge and was previously protected by the corn. He picked up my scent stream too, but again it just wasnt enough to make him bolt. Facing backwards in the stand i drew and held on the right of the tree. 30 second went by and he ended up giving up on my scent being a concern and headed west, forcing me to lean back to clear the stand tree and shoot him on the left of that tree. 30 yds heart shot and i watched him drop in the corn field. Would have loved to sink my teeth into the mature bucks i started to get a handle on but it was hard to say no to these kind peoples request on my last hunt.2 points

Don't do it.I ain't giving second chances.I pay a lot to hunt this land.Put a lot of time in to scouting and controlling my scent.I put a lot into my entry and exit of my area with controlling my scent and sounds,so the deer aren't spooked out or get a pattern. I aint taking your silly excuses like i am looking for my buddies stand, lost track of the boundries,"oh this is posted?",I "had" permission last yr,Im tracking a deer, and so on. I have DEC and OC sheriffs office in speed dial.If you hide your back tag i will take a picture of your face for them. If you don't have blood on you arrow STAY OFF MY LEASE!!!OR PAY THE JUDGE!!!!! If you are LEGIT tracking a deer......Show me the bloody arrow and i will help. During gun season..................DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!! I have my 12 yr old there hunting with a bow. Stay out...........You will be charged with trespassing even if you are tracking a wounded deer.No excuses during gun.You should be a better shot.sorry.If you need to Call the land owner. His name is on the posted signs!1 point

I think the question was about the legal status of the crossbow issue. Not whether it is a good idea or bad idea. I'm kind of curious myself since the news on status of crossbows for both bow season and gun season seems to have gone completely quiet. What is the next legal step and when?1 point

So I ended my PA bow season friday by watching the biggest buck of my life walk past only presenting a 30 yard quartering towards me shot which I passed hoping he would turn and come in boradside and he never did. Yes it tasted like a $h!t sandwich but would have felt a lot worse had I wounded him. At least I have a chance come rifle season.1 point

Terrible shot. He is lucky that he got enough penetration to hit the neck. This is NOT a good shot in my book nor should it be in anyone's. Yes I can see its a dead deer and meat in the freezer, but I don't see how anyone could want to take a chance in wounding or losing a deer due to impatience. He may not have paid $100 bucks for a licence to watch them walk, but a good and a responsible hunter would walk out of the woods not thinking of the $100 bucks he spent, but about the nice buck he saw and the next hunt!1 point

1 go with something you know. 3 you don't really know. Depending on the size of the fields you might not see a thing if there is a lot of room for them to disappear. She may also have a hard time picking out a target. go with the stand1 point

3) Deer seem to notice ground blind when first set up. If other hunters are in the woods opening day, the deer will be on the move. They should end up running right to you before they know your around.1 point

Remington 870 Wingmaster with a slug barrel on it-- my dad's gun. I grew up shooting it and even though I can legally use a rifle here now, I am just so used to this shotgun that I feel more confident with it. The area I deer hunt is pretty thick so I rarely would have the chance to shoot >50 yards anyhow.1 point

to let a "sitter" or child sitting with you to use a call.(Actually, its fine to have a youth sit with you but cant assist in the hunt at all which incudes driving or calling) But a lil 4 year old seeing a spiker, wanting to call? cant resist. It was fun, and thats all that matters. All day he was ready to go. even had his bb gun ready. (at 6am this mornng)1 point

Alot of work in Ohio. My goal for all of 2012 season was to tag a mature buckin bow (done) and get my fil his FIRST DEER in 40 years....last morning he had some light chasing amd saw 6 deer. He missed a 6 that jumped the string by inches taking a tuft of hair with the bolt. A doe stopped by 5 min later and he double lunged her at 20 yds. Talk about excited.1 point

Turkey hunting in 9T again today, I came across at least two dozen well tended scrapes, and we saw 4 deer mid-morning (two didn't know we were there, 2 we bumped). One looked to be a buck, but I couldn't tell for sure in the fog, I didn't have time to get my binocs on him. Good luck out there!1 point

The year he got SHOT?!?!?! Well that's a way to open a story. Hope he turned out alright. As far as the question at hand I've never read anything about carrying a muzzleloader and shotgun during regular season. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 21 point

Going to spend my season with my grandfather's Savage .300 Model 99. It became mine last year when my 80 year old uncle, my hunting partner for the past 30 plus years, came to the house and surprised me with it saying, "I know you always wanted grampa's rifle and I think it's time for you to have it". This rifle has not been in the woods since the old days when my grandfather used to go with his buddies, and pack supplies by mule and wagon back into the Adirondack's at McKeever. To the best of my knowledge he only killed a couple deer in his lifetime and only with this rifle. He was always so busy working hard to take care of his family it left precious little time for him to pursue the sport he loved so much, hunting. Nothing would please me more this season than to take a buck with his rifle. Grampa........this one is for you!1 point

Well Biz, first off, I did not ask for your opinion or thoughts on my hunts. This post was to share a cool buck video. I have a wife, kids, each kid plays fall sports, full time job, a house, many other obligations, and a kid that was injured and had to have surgery. My wife can't take time off from her work, so 2 weeks of my time has been the primary caregiver for my son (who can't get out of bed or a recliner by himself). Hunting is my hobby, not my life. I get out as often as I am able to and if it's only for 2-4hrs each time, I am greatful for that. Frankly, you can take your elitist attitude and go............ Since we already have registration for handguns I guess the original question was about long-guns. Well, I just want to point out that Canada experimented with that fiasco and have finally been forced to scrap the whole idea as impractical. But what the heck, I can see another nice bureaucracy created to handle that mass of ever-changing data. It's all paid for with government money, so it's free .... right? Sure .... let's put another bunch of people on the payroll doing worthless busy-work. Just another place for crazy errors and snafus and hardships for law abiding gun owners. It kind of reminds me of the time when I received a parking ticket from NYC when I had never even been to NYC. Yup, they had the make, model, year and license number right. Yeah, that was a pain to straighten out, but just imagine if that nonsense had involved a gun used in a homicide. Chances would be that I would be taken away in cuffs and then made to try to straighten it out. You people that want the government involved in every facet of your lives ought to take stock in just how deeply they already are interlaced in your daily activities. But then what the heck, it's just one more tiny inconvenience, right? And we have already seen how effective pistol registration is (apply a little sarcasm there). That burdensome mass of data can be undone (and routinely is), with a small dremmel tool equipped with a grinding stone.1 point

Actually this whole thread was a gloat session with some added racism comments. My comment was related to the confirmed reports yesterday of black panthers at polling sights in Philadelphia throwing republican vote checkers out of the polling places. It took an order from a judge to get them back in. If the truth is racism, so be it. I could care less what color obama is.He is a poor excuse for a president even if he was purple. If it were white guys at polling places throwing democrat pollsters out, you gloaters would be all over it.1 point

Ya OK, lets do that. NOT. I dont recall the land owner leaving him in charge to police his property. Thats the land owners problem. He only has permission to hunt the land. He informed the land owner of the situation and as clearly stated the land owner didnt seem to be too worried about it.1 point

Back after him this morning! I wish he would make it easier for me and just surrender!1 point

Set your stand where u want if you happen to see another hunter in the other stand, tell them you are the only one with permission as far as you know according to the landowner. I'd also lock your stand. You might find out it is another neighbor that hunts there knowing that the owner doesnt care or maybe they asked years ago and the owner has forgotton. Some times its better to make friends than enemys. You may need to recover your game from another property and it would burn the bridge before it can be built.1 point
