Always nice to confirm that you DON'T want to "upgrade" to the newest model. I will keep the 6.2L gas guzzler, carbon footprint be damned.2 points

I agree that he looks to be in decent shape. Given the toughness of these critters there's a good chance he can heal up and make it. I've seen more than one deer live a few years on one leg, raising fawns, even twins........and that's with a healthy population of coyotes in the area. Let nature take it's course.2 points

Absolutely .... If you make any modification whatever, be it with sandpaper or whatever, you then take on the responsibility for the problem. This is just a case of some infant mortality problem that every manufacturer periodically gets and expects. There should be no problem getting it repaired or replaced by competent people. Let them do it.2 points

for what it probably cost I would take it back until it was perfect. Hoyt is a good brand and should stand behind their products. You could always trade it in for an Elite!2 points

You know, on second thought I really never had any intentions of this post becoming a community shed thread. I think there's a fine line between "highjacking" a thread and "kamakazee-ing" a good thread.., so if I could request that anyone not farmiliar with this thread please post their pics and trophy banter in a seperate topic, that would be much appreciated. I really don't feel like competing within my own post. I know most of you know by now I'm pretty open to discussion and questions as you've seen over the past 3 years of posting this journal, so feel free to fire away, and share your observations and experiences with me here. I'm pretty sure you can see by now where I'm going with this, and will start your own journals to post your own pics in. Thanx.2 points

Guys and Gals. I sat through a brief presentation last night. I knew the deer existed and have seen a few at the fences but was un aware the property is in danger of being opened and developed. That will mean the end of the largest White whitetail deer herd in the world. I am not sure if all of you even know about the Seneca White Deer. They are products of a recessive gene (not albino). They developed inside a 10,000 acre enclosure at the Seneca Army Depot. The depot was constructed in the 40's and the entire area fenced in. Through the Cold war it housed a large compliment of Nuclear weapons. Fast forward to today. The Army is done with it and clean ups have taken place. It is being turned over to the IDA (Industrial Development Agency) for that county. They want it developed and put on the tax rolls. I feel that if ever there was a area that needed to be managed and preserved it is this one. I am including a link to a groups web site that is trying to gain traction, bring political pressure and find some way to have the State but it and manage it, either through DEC or the Parks Department. I know everyone if focused on the Unsafe act with their letter writing campaigns but this truly is a resource that once it is gone us, our kids and grand kids will never see the likes of it again. It should be maintained, managed and available to the public to view, not only the White deer but the other wildlife that currently calls the Depot home. There are funds available to do this. The same 'Pot" that was used to purchase the 8,000+/- acres from Monroe County surrounding Hemlock and Canadice Lakes. http://senecawhitedeer.org/1 point

Had to do this through my phone so I could post pics! Pulled my cam out of the deep hole stand this past weekend. Had this guy come by 3 days in a row. He has a pretty bad injury to his leg. I am leaning toward a car accident due to I thing a gunshot would of removed some muscle and left a hole or tear. Thoughts? He also dropped his antlers overnight. Wonder how far away they are? I am not a good antler searcher! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

well, everyone who wants to head shoot a coyote, let me know how that works out for you once you shoot a few you'll understand, they don't ever stand still, especially when your calling every shot opertunity is different, you might get 2 out of 50 that you can head shoot, the rest body shots don't worry about it now, when they come in you'll know what he's going to give you, and take what he gives, head, neck, shoulder or ribs your only going to get a few seconds,1 point

I would love to see a spring bear season. One of there objectives is to promote a "bear hunting culture" which is hard to do when the current season runs concurrent with deer seasons.1 point

Well Ford can put ll of the small displacement engines in they want, and claim this mileage and that, but if I were to buy a new truck this year, it would be the diesel 1/2 ton Ram. Boost a gas engine all you want, it wont have the life expectancy of a diesel.1 point

Trying to find out what the problem could be doesn't mean he wants to fix it himself, or risk voiding his warranty. I'm sure the OP wanted reassurance that its not just him, and that it was the bow and if there was a simple solution, like will it go away after breaking it in. In this case, best advice is to take the bow back. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems1 point

You gotta remember, half the guys on here couldn't change a light bulb let alone make repairs on their bow. They'd rather let the lackeys at the shop do it. I know better!1 point

I wouldn't hunt down there if you paid me. I would let those locals chase them around their yards with their contraceptives until the deer $hit was up to the first barren branch on their over browsed shrubs.1 point

I am new to this so explain that to me. I would think the valuable fir in on the body. No?1 point

There have been tests done on farms that go like, If you back the feed off the does for for a couple months before breeding them they will throw more buck fawns. Some say it works. The theory is mother nature takes over and tells the doe that feed is low in the area so fawns are born that wont effect the herd as far as making more animals in the herd. Females get bred and have fawns where as males dont and males leave the areas they are born in! I know our farm down next to letchworth had a huge number of buttons this year compared to years past!1 point

The question that I have is how will the lighter vehicle wait impact towing? If you think about it, half of that 700lbs. is weight you lose in the rear/bed of the truck... That is the main concern I would have at this point.1 point

I have to disagree as said I've seen deer with such injuries and granted it takes time but that lower section will eventually die and just the actions of his trying to get around will "wear it off" leaving the thigh muscle...I honestly think the nerves are dead by now....Fletch I hope you get some pics of him in a couple of months...a lot will depend on the next snow event and also the deers will to survive...looks like he is doing good in that dept. so far... If you go to the deer anatomy post WNYBH posted some excellent 3-D pics of a deers circulatory system...post #4.......I doubt there is much if any blood supply to that area...just because it looks alive doesn't mean it is...I've tossed deer legs out in the woods and found them in the spring looking fairly normal from a distance...1 point

There is public and private money for this. Even more money can be generated from trophy hunting as well as eco-tourism.1 point

He asked what the problem could be and I gave him my 2 cents on what it could be and how to fix it. If he had no intentions on trying to fix it himself then I guess he should have not even posted and just took it to the shop.1 point

ideally i'd shoot em in my back yard but im sure the town has something to say about that!1 point

It's a picture that I would like to see included in our hunter safety training. In fact a video of the pathetic stumbling around as that critter tries to move around would make a very important point about potential results of careless shooting if it were presented to hunter training classes.1 point

Hence the No Kill List on the parks they are released on. I was a guest there years ago but was not lucky enough to draw a white tag. Back then they picked stands for you and they brought you out, dropped you off, you were told not to leave even if you shot a deer. Way back then the depot was still a dangerous place for someone to be picking around in some of them bunkers!1 point
-
I would agree to save if possible but at the very minimum i would demand that the deer be relocated to some state parks across the state and then put on the no kill list for awhile. I have seen a couple nice pied on Letchworth over the years. It would be cool to see some solid whites runnin around on the parks!1 point

Brand new, and guys are suggesting taking sandpaper to anything? Really guys? Take it back to the pro shop and let them take care of it. They will be able to deal with Hoyt easier than you will.1 point
-
I'd bet your local DEC officer would give you the go ahead to take him out. We had a cow blow her Achilles one time. As soon as o saw his lower leg parallel to the ground I knew that was what this was, then I blew the pictures up on my phone and saw the wound. There's no guarantee he'll die from it but life sure won't be easy.1 point

they said this was a fake... heard this one wast real, they were actors or something?1 point

Midsouth finally shipped my order today. I wanted to have them add in a few items, such as a bullet puller, but their system is pretty weird, and wasn't able to even though the order sat there for nearly 3 business days. Maybe by the end of the week, I'll be able to prep some brass! X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems1 point

I know one guy that refuses to register to vote...he claims it ties him to jury duty...but I thought your drives license did that....only thing is he's never been called...such a lousy excuse not to vote...he's a hunter...and has at least one shot gun and one rifle and a pistol permit...girl friend has a pistol permit...1 point

ATA brought out quite a few of the cameras that will be new to the market this year. Size has become one of the most aggressive characteristics this year. Small is in. I'm seeing a few major performance changes, but not as many as in years past. It seems like refinement is the name of the game. Cuddeback and Browning seem to have some very small cases this year. Cuddeback doesn't have a great rep in my opinion after years of a fall from grace when they were the cat's meow. If there was ever a year to "retry" them, the 2014 models might be it. Browning seems to be putting out decent product. While the photos/videos are not going to be among the best in the industry, the performance specs, if they fall in line with the same level of success as last year, will be nice. They are also tiny. Very tiny. Covert has a few new cams out. They have a wide angle cam perfect for field use. It's a different look from the norm for the company, but it appears to offer a perfect cam for food plotters and those who want to cover a larger area of detection and photo capture. The Code Black is also going to be 3G for improved service connectivity and likely faster transmission/performance. A white LED cam is out. Some people fap fap fap at white flash for color nighttime video/photo, but I'm not one of them. It's a great cam for those who do. Reconyx is still touting its potential two-lens system. Problem is they touted it last year and it never came out. Great cam if it performs like their reputation is built on, and two lens offer a lot of benefits. Moultrie doesn't seem to have a ton of great additions, other than just cranking out more models than you can shake a stick at, with refinements being the name of the game. The big one to look at for me is the 150i, which is the black flash panoramic cam. I think it will make a solid food plot cam. One thing I just don't seem to be sure of yet is the amount of moving parts. Noise and reliability are a long-term concern. Still, it's a real neat cam for those who can use it. 2013 models to consider if on sale. I actually prefer people buy cams that are a model year behind because the cams are proven in large, or not...or are caught somewhere in the middle. While runs of the same cams from the manufacturer can vary, in large, if a cam is good, it tends to be good. Moultrie P150, 990, 900, 800, and 880. Steer away from the other series of cams, including the 555. Covert MP6, MP6 Black, Red 40, Black 60, Code Black - Black 60 is one of the best all-around cams Browning - all three models, recon force and spec ops especially Bushnell - X8...a very little known cam. Daytime pics are washed out a bit, but that's typical of Bushnell. The cam is a bit hard to set-up and navigate, but the cam is a trooper. It is no longer made, but plenty of places are selling it on sale because it didn't sell as well as the Trophy cam. Not a lot of complaints on repairs or issues with it. Spypoint - G4 or the black flash variant from Cabelas or Dick's (2 N 1 or Eclypse). Cam really hasn't evolved much in the past two years other than the black flash. But, it's a good, reliable cam. Still not convinced Primos or WGI has anything to offer.1 point

I listen to pretty much anything and everything except metal and country. Favorites will be: Jay-Z Eminem Wu-Tang Clan Erasure 10,000 Maniacs DIdo Sarah McLaughlin Ne-Yo Toni Braxton Leona Lewis Norah Jones The Cure Don Omar Prince Royce Zacarias Ferreira But if there is to be one and only one. It would have to be Sarah Brightman. The one person I would pay top dollar to see whenever she's in town. That reminds me..While reading through some seed catalogs the other night I had the TV on...there was a cop/bad guy series on and something said caught my attention...a shooting happened and what weapon was used question was asked..."They used an unregistered shot gun" was the answer...this grabbed my attention....what now "Hollywood" is being steered toward sticking the "bad person killing" shot gun into ppls minds?....All shot guns will have to go into be registered? What do they have some type of deal with the "save us from our selves groups"? If you push this or that agenda for us...we'll leave you alone on the violent crap you produce...you can have all the teen sex same sex...blood cut up people scenes ect ect... you want...1 point

Seems pretty clear to me. Can't use a rifle in a non rifle area during deer season to hunt furbearers.1 point
