Got up this morning and decided i wanted to sleep in. My wife still went out without me and she shoots her first deer. And to top it all off.....she did it on our anniversary lol3 points
-
He snuck in behind me at 35 yards. Had to make an akward shot around the back of the tree, over a branch and between 2 saplings. Smoked him. Went 30 feet and piled up. Main frame 10 with split 2's (scorable) and an extra kicker on his right 2 that is questionable. We will call him a 12 point. Tallest buck I have ever seen. His brows are 8", his G2's and G3's average 11". Not very wide, but a ton of character. Rough Gross 147"2 points

It's so quiet out...I think the deer can hear me farting and that's why they haven't shown up.2 points

Just had a large coyote come trucking through the woods directly at me. He busted my standing up to grab my bow. Had a stare down and he took off. Biggest one I have ever seen2 points

Got my first deer with a bow last night. A doe, smaller then I would've liked but it kept circling me. So I decided to shoot. Now it's buck time. Saw a deer within five minutes of being in my stand. Too far to tell what it was. Good luck to all!2 points

FIRST POST ON THE KILL THREAD! Saturday morning was hunting at my aunt's property in Rome for the early season. Saw 5 does in the morning and almost got a shot at one but it was a little to thick so I passed on it. About 8 I left the corn field I was sitting next to for a little still hunting. I started walking down an old logging road on the property trying to walk up on something possibly bedded in the beach trees. Got about 150 yards into the woods from my aunt's hay field and saw a black squirrel which I was very tempted to shoot (and almost did!) Thought it through though, didn't want to use up a rage and possibly break an arrow. Well its after 930 now and I had stuff to do with my nephew and girlfriend so I turned around to work my way back to the car. Didn't even take a step and I see a deer walking from my left to righ crossing the logging road I was standing right in the middle on. I could see it was a buck but he was about 80 yards out so I just watched and couldn't believe he was just going to walk right by me. Well he turned towards me and took a few steps then stopped. Then took a couple steps to the right and stopped again. He was teasing me! He finally turned back towards me and was coming right to me! About 40 yards out he got behind a big tree so I quickly and quietly took three or four steps forward and got into a position for a shot. He stepped out from behind the tree slightly quartering away, I drew, stopped him and let it fly! Watched the Nokternal laser right into his ribs. a little back but with the angel still a good shot. I got my composure and texted my girlfriend to tell her plans were going to have to push back a couple hours. I waited maybe ten-fifteen minutes and then looked for my arrow and blood. Found good red blood right from the shot so I got on the trail. about 60 yards into it I found my arrow feet from a stand my father and I built years ago. About another 100-150 yards I found him in a cedar swap dead! Apparently I wasn't the first one to find him....damn coyotes already started to open him up where my arrow went in. luckily no meat was lost. He was my best bow buck so far! Good mass at the bases, good brows and the best part...the hunt itself less than an hour from shot to finding him 0945-10402 points

Please try to keep the political type threads in the politics section. I have moved a bunch of them recently. With the election coming up I realize that there will be more political threads than usual, so I just figured I would make the request before it gets really annoying lol. Thanks!1 point

I never used scents much over the years, maybe a couple times and with no success. So I won a bottle of Doe Estrus and I guess I can use it on a drag walking in to my stand then hang it under my stand. I would do this around the peak of the rut, Nov 7-21 I guess? Am I doing it right?1 point

Nobody suggested we shouldn't question or research. What was said is we shouldn't make claims without proof. The anti gun crowd and the global warming crowd do it constantly to support their agenda and their claims have been proven false. There are plenty of fracking areas, all over America, where answers to claims can be proven, if they are true. As of this date, most anti-fracking claims remain accusations. In order to have a more intellectually unbiased opinion, you may have to pay tuition, and avoid anti-fracking seminars pushing an agenda.1 point

if the guy is already on stand and you come in later STAY AWAY......wait by his vehicle if you really need to talk to him....if he's coming in after you're already in your stand and he's climbing up when he knows you're there, then screw him and do it when you want.1 point

Finally! I've been pinned down. I've had 6 deer (3 doe& 3 fawns) eating acorns & beechnuts below me for 45 minutes. They just moved into the field so I can exit. Had a small 6 come to visit too.1 point

I have to agree with Larry ~ exspecialy being your son I would set trail cams and knock on the neighbors doors ~ probably been some ones spot and their just being jerks. A friendly conversation even if the person doesn't admit to it will probably put a stop to it1 point

Why the debate? Or why the .243? In the case of the debate, it's because everyone tends to think their choice is the best. In the case of the actual caliber my only argument is that it's what I have, I can hit with it, I have a lifetime's worth of ammo loaded for it, and I can't afford to buy another gun right now.1 point

Based on what I see around me - yes, I am right. Difference is I know that is just a snapshot of the state and think overall the DEC has a better idea of it then I or you do looking through our tiny windows.1 point

Tampering with a stand should be a serious crime. It's not a stretch to say someone could easily be paralyzed or killed as a result1 point

Forgot my headlamp this morning, nothing like stumbling around the woods at 5 A.M, had to choose a tree because i could not find the blind, or see any trail markers1 point

I have a stand right behind the house..and have done that many times...I have to be very careful of the time though...right now my season legally ends at 6:44pm....I check my times before leaving every day...and set my phone timer for those times to vibrate. Good Luck1 point

Had two fawns under my stand. Unfortunately the big does stayed about 75 yards out. Had good activity this morning. Turkey too. Sent from my LG-VS9801 point

Not promoting breaking the law, but that's a dumb law. Successfully Defending myself from a bear attack would be a lot more important than a fine.1 point

It's more about the opportunity to keep hunting after you kill one. I'd hate to kill a nice buck early October and then be done. I actually enjoy the hunt more than the kill.1 point

I think aside of getting the excitement from seeing a buck myself is getting texts from buddies in various areas getting one knocked down or a fellow member of the forum getting a nice deer! That always pumps me up I was day dreaming a little bit about your buck this evenings sit as if your bucks twin brother was going to slip in behind me lmao. Congrats again1 point

Sounds like a fun sit! One time (and I wasn't there in the field but I heard the story that night at camp) in PA two good friends were hunting the same field at opposite ends. IIRC correctly they climbed into their stands around 3:00pm. Around 3:30pm 'Ol Wally sneaks into Gerry's stand as quietly as a 65 year old cigarette smoking stinking (said very lovingly!) old dude can do........Gerry looks down and says quietly WTF? Wally says, "hey Gerry, can I borrow a couple arrows?" Gerry shakes his head in disgust and send a couple down for Wally. It seems Wally left his bow quiver and all its contents back at his home in Amherst! He actually grabbed his bow from its soft case, hiked into his stand, climbed up and THEN noticed he had no ammo:) We had a ton of fun the next day trying to get an arrow to shoot out his old Jennings Arrow Star bow!! Great times man, great times. We just buried "ol Wally this past May, I think of him daily.1 point

A flock of toms came in at 30 yards last night. I was able to take one of the bigger ones. It had a 6" beard on it as well. It will be a great lunch today for the hunting camp. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Good eye spotting those beauties! Very cool subjects. I usually don't notice them until I put my face through one. Then I'll spend the rest of the day paranoid the giant tarantula is crawling all over my body every time something brushes up against my skin,lol1 point

Doc i have used Tinks before and had it work great and then use another time and have them turn inside out trying to get away from them. Its all about the pheromones when it comes to using doe in estrus and you can only get them in fresh collected scent. Its all about the VS.Vaginal secretions..from does that are in the 58 to 63 hour breeding window when it comes to collecting on the farm. If you have a friend of a friend of even a friend and can get your hands on this in the month of November...Hang on because you will have bucks..mostly young bucks pin you up in the tree because they will not leave the area. Kinda scary to have 3 little guys beady little eyes staring at you as you come down the tree a half hour after dark and you know what that thing in their pants are thinking>>.LOL1 point

My son shot this bear last week. I got to watch the whole thing from my tree stand. While he was on the ground 20 feet away. I was very proud. He is only 15 years old and this was his first big game kill. He took the time to wait to make sure it was alone and then the bear winded him and bolted. He hit the bear with the first shot while it was on a full run. He is going to be a great hunter.1 point
