  1. Based on how hard he negatively rated the Northern states because of the cold and snow, I wonder if the author is maybe from a warmer climate and a wuss.

  2. This is a daily talk in our house( 2 years from retirement) wife wants to move for good I want just to winter away from here although I might be swayed her way. Deer hunting is nice but not in my top 5 or 6 things I look for in a place to live. Here are a FEW taken be me. I've filled my freezers and some friends as well every year since the early '80s and I'm not that good of a hunter .imagine if I hunted in a good state....

  5. Spring turkey hunting The most fun part for me is shooting the turkey, which is probably all your favorite thing I haven't shot anything yet cause it is my first year hunting The first time I went turkey hunting I was 10 my brother had me video while he hunted, a few Jakes came in to about 20 yards but we wanted the gobbler we heard. We ended up not being able to call it in This is my first year hunting with a gun I think I have a good chance even if I am inexperienced, next year I'm going to try with a bow I love hunting and have always wanted to hunt and now that I'm old enough I can't wait even if I have to get up at 4:00 I've gone deer duck and turkey hunting with my brother so its not hard to get up at 4 and have a cup of coffee and go I have done a lot of pigeon and squirrel hunting with a 22 around the farm and have shot quite a few animals My dad sometimes would have me shoot the birds that came to eat the planted seed in the spring By Jeremiah Martin Here it is ????

  6. The judges and myself have come up with an idea to get the youngsters motivated and thinking about the spring youth hunt. It's going to be an informative contest and give us a pulse of what today's youth hunters feelings are about the sport. There are only a few rules to the contest and here they are... 1. All youth hunters that will be participating in the spring youth season need to submit a story as to what he/she likes most about turkey hunting. That's it plain and simple. 2. Deadline to enter will be 12:00am on April 15 and the winner will be announced on April 21. 3. Voting for the winner will be done by the HNY members, and not by the Youth Hunt Contest judges, between April 16-20. So members please take an active part in the voting. 4. The winner will receive a nice prize. Not yet determined but leaning towards a gift certificate to a sporting goods store. If any members have a youth they'll be taking on the spring youth hunt please get them involved in this fun contest. THIS CONTEST IS NOT BEING RUN BY HNY

  7. [attachment=29008:IMAG3600.JPG][attachment=29006:IMAG0131.JPG][attachment=29007:IMAG0468.JPG] I am really impressed with both the Moultrie Camera and Whitetail Institute's winter greens. The camera was put up last summer and is still going. The pictures are pretty clear and has decent range. I was really happy to see the number of deer feeding in the plot. It definitely seem that they prefer the brassica over the corn??? Looking forward to more food plot work this year!!!

  17. louisville ky That explains a lot. I lived just 80 mile North of Louisvile & they are (almost) all cold weather wussies in them thar parts. So damned hot & humid in the summer at all you can do W/O sweat running off your nose is lay in a bar or a swimming pool. That's fine with them, but let it get down below 40° F & they stand around shivering. Let there be 4" of snow on the roads & they are running to the store hoarding milk & bread.

  21. In my humble opinion, NY gun laws are terrible. But hunting in NY is in no way the worst. If you hunt with bow and gun, the deer season lasts for two and a half months. Is there a booner roaming every property, no. But as seen on this sight, some very respectable bucks call NY home. Given the time we have to hunt them and all the various weapons we can legally use, from longbow to high powered rifles. There is no shortage of tools we can use to get the job done. I understand some areas of the state have more deer than others. But even on most public land, shooting A deer is not impossible if you put in the time and effort to be successful. Also, having seen most of the lower 48 states myself, NY is one of the most beautiful states in the nation. With mountain vista's, rolling hills, valley's, farm fields, big woods and small woodlots. Is it the best? That is for everyone to decide for themselves. But in no way is it the worst.

  22. jjb - I don't believe the woman was evil - just tragically ignorant. Giving issues such as this attention counters such public ignorance.

  23. Is there any interest at all in this contest? If not I'll pull it and add the prizes to the youth hunt contest. I would have thought that the same guys that preach about youngsters getting into hunting would show more enthusiasm and inspire the young folks.

  24. Wooly this deer was not hit by a car. One of the problems is with our county its a huge county and goes around the southern tip of Seneca Lake, so response time sucks. Also the Sheriffs dept is not the best in this County either. But after posting this picture on FB, it seems that a couple friends of mine have had the same thing happen on the next road over, and they seen a red vehicle with loud exhaust doing the same thing. So if they keep trying to do it, I think they will be caught as mosre people are on the look out now.

  25. sitting top of the world one day, beggin for a dollar the next. you never know so i try not to judge unless i have all the facts. from the looks of it if it was a poacher he was prolly just after meat. personally i would rather a guy who can hunt go grab his own meat if his family is starving then go beggin the government for help. seeing a dead dear with his head chopped off and the body left to rot would piss me off waaaaaayy more than comming accross a guy carrying a doe outa the woods outa season unless that guy was shooting a golden AK47 just my opinion

  28. The power of Facebook is being unleashed, lol. It is being shared alot on FB. I belong to a group of people who run sporting pages and asked them to share my page's post linking to the petition. It should result in a good amount of exposure. Some of the pages that are sharing have 50k followers.

  29. I've taken 3 since 2004 on my own property. About once every 5 years, '04, '09 & '14. Never even saw anything like that (while hunting) in PA & only one in Indiana. Most of those Midwestern "trophy states" fair no better on public land or easily accessible private land. I'm very happy with NY deer hunting.

  30. i hope more people read that article and stay away. Most northern states have mainly buck only seasons. That guy needs to do more research before writing articles.

  31. I think they are full of Shyt.NY is a good hunting state, does NY have truckloads of mega bucks like some states? No but they state isn't geared that way with the way its run.Anyone in this state can go after big deer,I know a few plots of state land within a hour drive that have plenty of great bucks.I myself don't feel the age of a deer makes it great, hell one of my best hunting memories was shooting a doe because I had a family at church that desperately needed meat for their freezer.Getting that deer for them made my year.

  35. I am in no way making excuses and I think this sucks. I have been around areas of the state and country that this happens pretty frequently. sometimes hunger can be a big motivator. I think a job or another job is a better option. If we knew this guy worked two jobs and had 3 hungry little kids at home would our opinion change?

  37. Poachers suck! I woulda tried like hell to get a pic of the vehicle. Or hopped in my vehicle to follow and get the tag. I know put myself at a little risk but I hate poachers.

  38. Or even applicable, as the average hunter and shooter does not have the skill set to accurately hit targets at 500 yards or more, especially under field conditions.
