  1. Didn't think girls brought subjects like that up in 1923.

  2. while everyone is focused on gay marriage, I would like to know what other things were passed last week. Its all a smoke show.... and all the dumb americans are either in bliss or enraged with blinders on. How about we talk about the fact this administration would like to change the paying of ransom laws... I can not see how any american would be for that.

  4. On a humorous note, did anyone see the news story of how the ISIS flag was supposedly flown in a gay pride march. The news covered it for a good 20 min trying to see how ISIS would support gay rights before someone actually noticed that instead of Arabic on the flag there were just lots of outlines of sex toys. It's amazing how quickly they found a new topic to talk about. Highlight of my week.

  7. There are some big freaking deer in the Bergen Swamps. Letchworth is also feasible for you...shoot on down 390. I would think you might open some doors being a pre-med college kid who hunts and has his head on straight. Be respectful in your approaches and I bet you could land some private ground with a little effort.

  8. Yep, they should also lose their job. If you can not complete your job duties for whatever reason, why should they pay you? If you don't get a job because of your religion it is discrimination and illegal, if you refuse to do your job because of your religion then you should have no protection. The constitution guarantees that you have freedom to practice your religion, not bring that religion to work with you and force your employer to make concessions due to it.

  9. What vote are you referring to? The only "votes' I am aware of were at the State levels. That really is my point. gay marriage is not the popular view point in many areas of the nation however the Amendments are being used as vague justification for it. In the same breath the "popular" stance on Gun Control is used as justification to side step a specified and enumerated right. I guess it just makes a difference which side it serves.

  11. I find it odd and what bothers me most about what just took place, is the inconsistency in the process and approach. Let me start by saying I don't care who marries whom. I am glad you put the two topics in the same post, gay marriage rights and gun rights. We have the former that is not an enumerated right in the constitution and the latter that is. We have two groups of citizens and by the numbers I have seen there are more gun owners than gay. The differing approaches to secure a "freedom" can ONLY be viewed as political hokus pokus when they are not given at least equal effort. Popular votes against gay marriage in states are nullified yet popular support in a state are used as justification for current or future gun control. This was a left vote grab, plain and simple. On another note. since the line in the sand has been officially moved for a legal marriage, what is next? How can we say no to Polygamy? Wait until the cost of that tax code rewrite come around...lol. How about things like family insurance plans?

  14. Would I get chastised if I changed my avatar to a picture of the Pyramids of Giza? They were built with slave labor. Would I be accused of being an anti-Semite? Are we going to demand they be torn down?

  15. I think this last round of flooding sounded the death-knell for our garden. Plants do not grow well in standing water. Perhaps I might be able to salvage some squash simply because they were planted in hills. We'll see. Oh, and it looks like we will be blessed with a little more rain tomorrow and the next day. "How high's the water Mama? ..... Five feet high and rising." Old Johnny Cash may be dead, but his song sure isn't. Predictions? .... This is just an extension of last winter. It was quite simple to predict all this crap. More colder than normal weather with higher than normal precipitation. Yeah a little wrinkle here and there, but the bigger picture is just a seasonally modified version of last winter.

  16. can somebody explain to me why people are even using the confederate flag as their avatar? To try to be provocative, to get attention- same reason for the titles of most of their threads.

  19. I have a pretty rugged county trail park just 5 miles from home so I do a lot of biking there in the summer. Some of the trails are rather treacherous with 100ft+ cliffs just feet from the twisty rooted trails. I'll have to grab a few pics next time I'm there. I've been beating this bike up for about 5 years now and thinking it may be time for a new one, but I'll probably wait till next spring with that. Since I quit smoking almost a year ago, I really enjoy being able to push my physical limits way beyond the casual rides I used to take here.

  22. You are again talking apples and oranges...the Muslim is using religious beliefs to avoid something they knew would be an issue when applying for the job...it was their choice to make and not the employers obligation to accommodate..it is not a physical disability which isn't choice . With the pregnant woman It is a societal accommodation. To in the minds of the government is to the benefit of the group as a whole. That is why parents can choose either the man or the woman take maternity leave. This being a temporary short term adjustment that anyone can use ...unlike the religious beliefs of an employee

  23. A woman and a man for that matter should be able to get the leave she/he has accrued. Getting pregnant is a choice. If you cant afford to take the time off from work, you probably shouldn't make that choice.

  24. Yep. I don't think ANYONE should get Christmas, Ramadan or Chanukah off if they work for the government. A private industry can do whatever they like as far as I'm concerned since that is the decision on an individual as to what days they want to give their workers off.

  25. Others have also done it. I think with a formal position to allow it, the result will be more abductions.

  29. This thread was started in relation to an issue surrounding a flag that has been politicized by both the White-house and the media. It may not be our favorite kind of politics, but it is politics, warts 'n all, none the less.

  30. Yeah no kidding! and for someone to even start a thread like this on a hunting site? I believe the mods should be watching who really talks and more so..shows hunting on their posts or relocate them to the proper place.

  36. But you can't give any real examples,,can you? "Implied" bails you out of having to explain or prove your ridiculous false accusations…. And yeah…some people are stupid. I bet you think people "Speak in code" too. LOL!! Good thing that only you and people who think like you have the key to that code huh?? How convenient. Your post is a good example of you and your ilk hating people who dare disagree with you. (its "implied") And with that all I can do is laugh my freaking ass of!!!!

  40. My main focus as a hunter, when I decide to pull the trigger on a deer, is to have it Dead Right There, or down as quickly as possible. And the larger, more powerful rounds and slugs, just seem to be more efficient for me. I'm all for making deer hunting a challenge if that is what you want to do. That's why we have black powder guns, deer sized hand guns, recurve, compound and crossbows. My point is to understand the capabilities, and limitations of any weapon used, and to kill as quickly and efficiently as possible. We owe that to the game we hunt!

  41. no it wouldn't. thats why I'm asking for your personal reasoning for supporting the flag. can you please answer?

  42. to me this topic is the same as broadhead selection. You can kill a deer with a field point but increase your odds with a good broadhead. You can kill a deer smelling like a goat, but increase your odds smelling like nothing. You increase your odds of a good kill with a .270 and greater... than why not? i wont tell you what to do, but please make sure you're confident in your abilities, a small miss could be bad for both you and the deer.

  44. As a member of Deer Search, I can tell you that I have had more than a few calls to find deer shot with a 22-250 and 243s. Most were not recovered. Now I'm not saying that they won't kill deer. You just have a smaller margin for error on shot placement, and usually a very light blood trail. That being said, with the right bullet and knowing the the rifles capabilities as well as your own, have at it. To each their own.

  45. I think everyone is getting caught up in "Who cares if gays get married?" I for one couldn't care less…. Go for it….The bigger picture is unelected lawyers just making up liberties that are not in the constitution. Where does that stop?? Again ….Bob wants to marry Jim…Sue wants to marry Gale???? Who gives a crap??

  48. Just a little update on my original post. I have two family members that own delivery routes on Long Island. Martin Potato bread and the other Stella D'oro/Hostess. They both do extremely well and the hours are really great if you are an early bird, which I am. The bread route is more demanding that is a given. I decided to buy a Pepperidge Farm snack route on the Island. I start in two weeks training with the owner and it should be mine by June. Very excited about this and looking forward to some decent hours, working for myself and no commute.

  49. I have the same 1/5x5 Leupold on 3 rifles: my 45-70 Browning single shot, my .308, and 8x57 mauser. I spend most of my time in woods country, and they give me all the magnification I could need, while giving a quick pick up wide view, as well as great light transmission for the darker hrs and shadowy woods. Cranked up to 5, I can still take any deer I can see in open finger lakes country.
