I just wanted to put a post on here about Deer Search Inc. I hit a 9 pointer on Sunday morning around 10am. It was a 15 yard shot that I have made multiple times but this time I didn't settle the pin in behind the shoulder and hit him back several inches further then I wanted to. After I hit him he took off about 75 yards stopped and walked off slowly. I could see he was a hunched up a little and about 10 inches of membrane hanging out of the exit hole. My dad and I have been hunting for quite some time and have done many tracking jobs over the years of course we are still learning. We do know however it is better to wait and give the deer time to expire. We waited until 7 pm to head out and look for him. We went about 125 yards and he bedded up then we lost blood after another 20 yards. We looked for about and hr for more blood and just couldn't find any. so we headed towards water which wasn't far to see if anything was there and nothing. We decided to head back and look again in the morning. Back at the cabin my dad said what about calling Deer Search Inc. to see what they thought we should do. So I called and within 10 minutes Bob gave me a call to talk about the hit and said he could be there around 10am to pickup the search. My dad and I are from PA where you are not allowed to use dogs to track deer so we had no idea what to expect. Bob showed up at 10 am and we started at the hit sight. His dog named THOR took off right on the blood trail and followed it right to the bed within 5 minutes something that took us 30 minutes. He then had to circle for a little bit where we lost blood but after about 15 minutes he started heading in one direction. My dad and I were staying back about 75 yards to let the dog work and Bob yelled got some blood. What a relief that was to be back on the trail not even 5 minutes later and 75 yards downhill there laid my buck! I ended up going through the back end of the liver. What a relief it was to find him because I knew he was not going to make it. I can say that watching Bob and Thor work will be a memory that will last a lifetime. Bob was very knowledgeable of deer anatomy and the pictures and stories he has are unbelievable. He remembers stories down to every last detail and my dad and I learned several new things from him. I wanted to just put a post on here to share my experience with Bob THOR and deer search inc. I hope I don't have many more marginal hits but if I do I know who I will be calling! Thanks again Bob and THOR. Thanks for reading.20 points

So freaking excited been putting ever extra min I have had in stand. Kept telling my self today's going to be the day but was starting to get discharged. But I knew it wasn't going to happen ever if I was not there. Figured I would make a small scent drag to my treestAnd and hang out a scent wick bottle In front of my stand. 4:55 he stepped into the field at least 150-200yrds away put his nose down and made a b line right strait to my scent bomb mouth hanging open he looked just like he had a doe in front of him but no doe. He made it about five feet from the bomb and stopped which put him 30yrds broadside right strait in front of me. That was all she wrote a let the wac'um xl fly he went right back in where he came out from and as soon as he made the wood line and I lost sight of him I hurd him go down it sounded like someone pushing over a dead tree stump. I knew he was down climbed down danced all the way back to my car went to pick my old man up to help me recover him. We went back went to where I saw him go in the woods and there he was ten steps in he woods. So happy right now best drug ever !! Was glad I went and got my dad first we have been hunting together my whole life made it that much more special having him there with me the first time I layed my hands on him18 points

a few weeksago there was a topic started on vacation. I posted when I was taking my vacation and gman sent me a pm inviting me to hunt with him at his place. we met up on Wednesday did some hanging out chatting and he showed me around his property. his place is top notch the time that he has spent doing the trails and maintaining them and the number of stand locations and how hes done each set is amazing. I didn't see any deer but it was 70 plus degrees out his neighbor did take an exceptional buck and unfortunately gman found a beautiful 10 poached I sure hope they catch the guy. also gman cooked one hell of a tenderloin. I can't wait to get back out. thank you I had a great time8 points

As for me? I'm going to put my compound down, pick up my crossbow, and go out and hunt Saturday through Wednesday. I don't feel it will make me less of a hunter.4 points

Well I wasn't overly confident with the high winds this afternoon. I had only seen a small buck and was getting pretty bored. Then I hear noise behind me to the right. I quickly see he's a shooter, grab my bow and stand up. At this point he's maybe 12yrds from the stand. He hears the stand make alittle noise when I stand up, he looks around for a second and takes a couple steps and I grunt to stop him and get it fly. He went maybe 70yrds.4 points

Well my friend shot a beautiful 8pt today and while coming back from town I saw what I thought was a deer laying in a neighboring field, so I call him tell him I think I found your buck!! He told me no he just gutted his, I said well there is a dead 10 point here.. upon closer examination I see a 30 cal hole in it, so call to dec made, lots of reports ,and long story short I got to keep the meat, but dec took head, and cape for evidence. While capeing it we found the bullet.more evidence..3 points

my only complaint is not making the Archery Course mandatory for the crossbow......why should someone get a free pass into the Archery Season? The majority of guys have paid their dues, why not the next guy?3 points

Sunday am I will be sitting in a stand in 36 degree weather with a North West wind blowing in my face . Those damn deer better be moving !3 points

So, bit of a surprising result this evening. I came home a little early from work and despite the ridiculous temps, I decided to sit for the remaining 40 minutes of shooting light.I am going away for the weekend so I didn't wanna waste any opportunity to try and get Big-Boy. It is dry, a dead calm.Almost no breeze. I'm thinking, as I crunch my way to the stand, that this is gonna be a waste of time, but it's already almost 4:30, so I won't be out there long.Sunset is a little after 5 in my zone. I sit in the stand.2 or 3 squirrels are tearing it up in the dry leaves, making a decent racket. 10 minutes after my butt touches seat I hear a more regular version of leaf crunching. Something is coming my way. It's getting louder and louder. I can tell its close but I can't see a fricken thing between all the sapling trunks.Maybe it's my neighbor going for a walk I wonder? No self respecting Deer will be out in this crap, surely? Then I see him and for one fraction of a second I think it might be the Big 10. I see a decent amount of bone. After a couple of seconds I realize it is not the monster 10, but he looks a decent 8 and I have put in enough hours this last month to take the shot and reward my patience. He has read the playbook and is coming right toward the pinch point made by some fallen trees. I line my sight up right over the spot he is going to hit. As soon as his shoulders pass under the pin I let one fly. He drops like a sack of potatoes. My shot was a touch high and I have spine shot him unfortunately. It was a clean pass through, I haven't yet recovered the arrow. So he is down but not out, he crashes about behind this lump of dead tree tops. I cannot see him for a kill shot. I have to jump down and run around to get to the other side of the brush-pile. At about 15 yards I put another arrow right into the boiler room and it is over. This is the stand I was surrounded by coyotes in, so I rush back, get a 4 wheeler and the wife with a shotgun to cover me while I do the business of dressing him. I had no camera, so the photos are after dark and by the house. I cut my finger up nicely in my haste to get him gutted given the warm evening temps. I just missed the processors, so he is in the basement full of Ice packs for now.Have to wait till morning to get him to the butchers.3 points

Scored this nice buck on 11/1/15 While hunting with my brothers in Rock Hill. He was chasing a doe and came straight at me. When he got to 13 yds I drew down on him with my Bowtech Destroyer and sent my Rage tipped Easton Flatline at him. He dropped a few yards away.3 points

Well the warm temps had me questioning going out today in Suffolk county, nailed a nice doe at 7:30, decided to hang out a little longer, well mr big comes walking in 30 min later, and I took my best buck with a bow to date, 8 ptr with one tine snapped off.3 points

Forget scents. I like to live trap does in heat and then leash them to a tree and wait for a buck to show up.2 points

Agree 100%..But the "Compliant" AR's are so ugly and their intended function has been effected enough, that I would take a Mini 14 over one any day..Thats just me of course.2 points

They sell it at Dick's in the Poughkeepsie Galeria. It's just frozen urine. I had a young buck come in after legal shooting time with the doe in heat product. He had a friend with him.2 points

Sorry you didn't see any deer Red, but you made a friend, got to hunt some new land and had fun doing it. I tip my hat to GMan for extending an offer like this. Not many still do that.2 points

Yeah, this thread is getting a bit difficult to follow, but I believe you are crediting Belo with the "lazy" quote which is not one that he actually made. I tried to track this comment back because something didn't seem quite the way I remembered it all. Anyway, here's the chronology : ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- wolc123 (Actually a crossbow proponent) on post number 70 stated "There are plenty of deer to go around but they do deserve to be killed cleanly. If the crossbow can help us "lazier" folks do that, why keep them out? To which jjb4900 replied on post no. 109 - "I don't understand why you equate ones "challenging" themselves with wounding deer" To which Belo replied on post no. 125- "what's not to understand. he has very clearly stated that crossbows are good because people are lazy and they shouldn't have to work hard." So if you are going to criticize someone for the "lazy" comment, you have to aim that criticism at your pro-crossbow compadre wolc123. That was the source not Belo. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yup you do need a roadmap to follow this one.....lol. I hope I followed it all correctly. I hate to see a discussion side-tracked over a mistaken quote.2 points

Sorry, but you painting anyone that would like to use a crossbow as lazy is just plain silly. I wouldnt call someone that works 60+ hours a week, has to maintain a household, kids, etc lazy because they want to hunt during archery season but dont have the time to practice much with a vertical bow. Not everyone has the same luxuries as you, some people do all of that on their own, and dont have a wife/husband to share the load. Other people have injuries that prevent them from practicing, etc. Doesnt make them lazy. Its the same deal as many people dont have the time to practice with a recurve, so they opt for a compound. Id rather see people like that grab a crossbow and have a much better chance at putting a good shot on a deer rather than stick an arrow in the deer, have it run off and have the non hunting public see it walking around wounded with an arrow sticking out of its neck.2 points

I don't understand why you equate ones "challenging" themselves with wounding deer.....to most, the challenge has little to anything to do with the shot, it's about not always getting that shot for a variety of reasons, and when you finally do get it, it's all the more sweeter, maybe the challenge is killing a deer at 10 yards instead of 60....and with your rationale of JC having the final say of what happens with a deer's demise, are you suggesting that he makes these hunters wound the deer for one reason or another? why doesn't he just guide their arrow to a clean miss?? I don't get it. Does he punish nonbelievers by making things go wrong? can a guy blame him when things go bad instead of questioning what they themselves did wrong? he obviously wanted that deer wounded for a reason......so many questions........oh, and did you not challenge yourself last year with a shot that, as you said, was further then your effective range? and as you said, worked out because JC guided your arrow...why can't that work for everyone else with the weapon of their choice?2 points
-
Now wait a minute. We just got done tar and feathering a new hunter with 5 or so pages of telling him what a scumbag he is for not abiding by the legal hunting hours that I assume had slipped by him. You know the old rule: "ignorance of the law is no excuse". So, everyone should have a copy of those volumes of Environmental Conservation Laws purchased and committed to memory as well as constantly checking and memorizing all new laws that are passed every year...... right? A bit of sarcasm here, but I think you all know what I am getting at.2 points

Brilliant! Get up, get down, get around, and get up again. Makes total sense, no? I mean, seriously, if this were your concern, why not carry some cotton balls and a cheap $5 slingshot and wing them out from your stand once you soak them? Sounds equally thrilling. You must be one of these people in the video.2 points
