Took a decent 8 from my property this morning with my nephew with me. It's a shame one main beam is missing about 3 inches from being snapped off in a fight I presume. Happy to have him though..7 points

Got this 8 point at 9:20 this morning that was running just inside the woods 70 yards away. . He had a bad limp and a dislocated shoulder so I decided to take it...the fact that it's a nice deer is just a bonus. I had no more then a few seconds to shoot and I was able to pull off a heart shot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

One less coyote in the world. My dad pushed him to me along his property line. Big pools of blood, but he made it to the posted land. Seen no deer at all the whole weekend long in 7M. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk4 points

The 30-30s were the hot guns in deer camp on opening day.. 3 single shots took 3 deer.. A nice 9 pt, a 6 pt and a fat doe... The Tree of Life was blooming.. While everyone in the surrounding camps were crying about the lack of deer, we had them crawling all over with 4 guys in camp seeing 28 deer...3 points

My name is Tamara. I live in New Hampshire but hunt in Bath, NY every November and just registered for hunting in Long Island. My first passion is salt water fishing. I am relatively new to hunting. I haven't harvested a deer yet but did get a 240 lb bear in NH this fall. Very exciting. I am surely finding this to be a new passion. I don't believe in wasting any of the animal. I have absolute respect for this community and look forward to learning so much more. ????2 points

Is anyone having any luck in the 4G area? I haven't seen any squirrels today let alone deer. My property has been quiet ever since opening day. I think I need to invest some time and money into food plots this spring Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Why couldn't the scope be 1800??? Some folks like good glass on a classy rifle! Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk2 points

Usually the complaint of the SST is a lack of expansion not a lack of penetration. I would be willing to bet the bullet went through the shoulder blade or you didn't hit her where you think you did.2 points

Finally.. Wow. What a good morning. So I'm sitting in my ground blind and I see movement off to the right in some thick shit maybe 40 yards. After a second I see a deer materialize and see horns (more than one..). I shoulder my 30-06 and click safety and I look through the scope and I'm right on him. He stopped in his tracks for me and I took a breath and touched off a round. He bolted and I said some very naughty words. I saw him run maybe 10 yards and lost site of him. After sitting a bit I went to look for blood. I had the angle marked well but not the exact spot after a few mins of searching I was not happy. Luckily.. I found hair, but unluckily it was all white. I spent some time looking for blood but not a drop was found. I was on his trail as I could see disturbance in the leaves. No blood. by this time I see Orange the direction the deer ran and I'm confused and the deer should have run by this guy. No shots so I started to crack a bit of a smile. He might just be down here somewhere. Where I hunt is a steep gulley and I go to the edge and peek over and see the deer laying there!!!! It sees me and more not so good words, it gets up and tries to scale the other side of the gulley. It's not doing well but well enough so I touch off another round and it falls. Head still up I sit there and head falls.. Woo hoo. Lessons.. I need more practice with my 30-06. I only found one hole so far. behind the vitals and low. Just barely a gut shot. That may have been second shot though as it was kind of moving and at a weird angle. Not sure yet. Literally barely gut. When I opened it up I think I hit the stomach. Corn was present though not much. It did not smell horrible. Just a trace of corn and small amount of green. Very small. This is the largest buck I've gotten and first with 30-06. Don't beat me up real bad.. I have shot and can hit target pretty well. Buck fever gets me. Here he is... Edit: the deer stopped I think due to making the hunter. I think that deer was seconds away from bolting.2 points

My nephew in Tennessee went out this AM to get some more deer, but had these all around him so he figured he might as well take them. He has a 1,500 acre farm that he is the only one allowed to hunt on , unbelievable deer but lots of these things.1 point

It's very deceiving for sure. I look at myself, 5-10" and weigh 205. And yes, about 20 pounds of craft beer fat too much. But comparing myself size wise to a big deer you'd think the deer would weigh 250 all day long as per square inches they cover a lot more surface area. And I swear the longer I drag them, the heavier they get1 point

Didn't go to camp this weekend as the weather was forecasted to be warm and rainy and I was feeling crappy with this cold. So I went out with my buddy to his camp locally and stood in the rain, lol. We did 4 drives Saturday morning and I ended up seeing the most deer, 8 total, for the day. Only had a shot at 1 of them but it was a button so he gets a free pass. My buddy took a doe from the first group of 5 that ran past me and directly to him. Went and had lunch with all the guys of venison hotdogs and some venison steaks on the grill. All were washed down with some nice cold ones from the ice chest. Great afternoon. Only 2 of us met up this morning so we sat in stands by some thickets instead of trying to push by ourselves. About an hour into.the sit I hear the leaves rustling and by the time I turn around, this stupid coyote is at a full trot and not giving me a chance in hell at hitting him with a slug. When he was finally in the clear, he was over 80 yards at a full gallop going away so I saved the slug for another day. Was swearing at myself for not at least attempting a shot but oh well. Hunted another couple hours and walked out. Bumped 2 or 3 deer bedded close to the houses so didn't even raise the scope on them. Work all week and no chance to get out early so I Wil suck it up and do my time and get back after them next weekend down at camp.1 point

That's what I mean. Red's are quite tame and mild compared to greys you snarl, bark and lash out. I've caught some nasty coon and some very timid ones.1 point

I'll be in the thick stuff this afternoon , nobodies been in there since last Monday afternoon . I'm just a bit downwind from an area the big ones stay in all day. Very hard to get much of a shot there but the payoff can be very good if you,do .1 point

I don't use it for that, he uses it to get in to his stand seeing as he's 85. It was getting worked on by my house. I'm 31 and will drag my deer out all by myself but thanks for insinuating I'm lazy1 point

My area of 4O was hit with a large winter kill this year. My neighbor took a walk through the woods behind his house in early spring and found 8 carcasses within a couple of hundred yards of his house. Last deer season me and my hunting partner saw deer every day but this year was quite the opposite scenario. He didn't see any deer in four days of hunting and I saw two bucks in the same time period. Hopefully this winter will be kinder to the wildlife.1 point

Its not the slugs fault... I too have shot the SST's and I'll assure you they perform very well. Even on shoulders... Don't blame the bullet. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk1 point

Was fortunate enough to take these two opening morning about 5 minutes apart..he came busting in behind me running three does in circles...once I repositioned my rifle he took off downhill after one doe...the second doe wandered behind some tress and headed down hill as well leaving the big girl I was able to take locked up at about 35-40 yards...I let the .30-.06 bark and she dropped within 20 yards after I caught lung-top of heart-lung. So I decided to call my wife and let her know we had a deer down, and low and behold I look down hill and the buck is peaking at me from behind a tree at about 120 yards....I told my wife I had to go and out the phone down, carefully took aim and drilled him with a liver-lung-lung shot quartering away...he was down 40 yards later and my freezer was instantly full!! Great memories and a great opening day spent at camp in 9p. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk1 point

It only took 8 weeks but I was finally able to connect. Sat in my ground blind tonight. She came out at 3:20 walking through the tall grass. Was at 10 yards at one point but I had no shot. She finally cleared and turned broadside at 36 yards. The Obsession bow and Rage broadhead did the rest. She ran about 40 yards and piled up from the double lung shot. Glad to finally get one on the ground! Let's hope it's all down hill from here. She dressed out at 105 lbs.1 point

I shoot those or the Shockwaves, which as others have said, are the same. I have plenty of meat in the freezer and a couple of mounts on the wall because of them. I will say expansion isnt great, but they are very accurate. Shot my first ML buck with one a few years back at 190 yards with my 50 cal. Hit him with a high shoulder shot and it took him off his feet. He got up and ran abou 60 or so yards and piled up. The buck I shot the season before last was at around 50 yards, hit him through the shoulders, blew up the front of both lungs. He went maybe 70 yards.1 point
