Making the switch would make no sense to me you get more recoil, a worse trigger, more expensive ammo, less accuracy and less range. What do you gain with the 12 gauge?

Here in NY State some of the very best American firearms were produced at one time. Remington Ilion NY the oldest gunmaker is all that is left and for how much longer who knows. Remington also owns the Parker name and produced Parker doubles into the 1940s. The Parkers along with the Winchester model 21 are considered by many as the creme of the American doubles. The also produced a pretty good double of their own. Ithaca gun, Ithaca NY the producers of the famous model 37 pump, the Flues and NID and an entry level Lefever doubles, the Mag 10, the model 51 auto and the single barrel trap. First brand new gun I ever purchased was an Ithaca Deerslayer. Ithaca Classic Doubles Victor NY wonderful and ornate doubles based on the old NID. Lefever Arms Syracuse NY, produced beautiful sidelock doubles. Savage Arms Utica NY, My Dad worked there before, WW2. They produced the famous model 99 lever action rifle and also fine AH Fox doubles and the entry level Stevens B model. Baker Shotguns, Batavia NY produced sidelock doubles such as the Black Beauty and Leader, fine mid priced hunter's shotguns. LC Smith Fulton NY, fine sidelock doubles in many grades were produced there until the late forties along with and entry level boxlock. The Elsie sidelock is one of my favorites. Except for Remington they are all gone now but certainly not forgotten as they were some of Americas best and made right here in NY.

I don't understand what the thrill is to be trying to kill game with the least effective equipment, but there seems to be some reason why people want to try it. The .22 hornet is a legal deer caliber in areas of NYS where rifles are legal. I'm waiting for someone to try to rationalize using it for deer hunting. Of course, given perfect circumstances, the hornet will kill a deer, but what would even make anyone try?

I have a Lefever Nitro Special that was handed down from my grandfather. Used it bird hunting, a nice piece of nostalgia. Every time I carry it or handle it the memories come flowing back. Cant wait to get out again.

I killed a couple deer in NC with one of my AR's and it worked. I also pulled my boat with my wifes car once and I got to fish. In both cases there are much better tools for the job!

2014... He showed back up post season already shed and suffering from what appeared to be a bullet hole at the top of his shoulders. When I hung my cams in early July I was left wondering if he had made the winter given his poor condition prior to the onset of the cold/deep snow that Feb. and March brought. Well, In late July he answered this question and showed up with a very visible scar on his back... He dropped by on x-mas eve to let me know that he was still out there... This deer will never be a high scorer but is one of those cool character bucks. I look forward to seeing him next season as a 4 yr old. Given the mild start to winter and the fact that he is in much better physical condition than he was last year at this time...I think he might add some inches this coming year.

I have a story to tell relating to customer service. A good friend of mine owned an Ithaca SKB M100 20 gauge just like mine. One day when his son was a toddler, the boy knocked his Dad's shotgun off a table, and the buttstock broke when it hit the floor. He contacted Ithaca Gun to get a replacement stock, and they told him to bring or ship the gun to the factory. Since it's only about an hour drive, my buddy drove to the factory. When he arrived, the factory fitted the gun with a brand new ENGLISH (280 type) stock and a new forend to match, for no charge.

I've included a universal gun mount as well as a remote pigtail so you may enjoy some predator hunting after you get back on your feet. I use Remington Sluggers with out a problem, harvest every deer under 60 yards as well and nothing like slugs will put a deer down with so much force. Don't waste your money on a rifled barrel and a scope not to mention that the sabots cost 12$ for 5 shells compared to 5$ for 5 shells or 14$ for a 15 shell pack of Remington Sluggers, just use an improved or modified choke with slugs never use a full or turkey choke.

True story good friend. Airline lost his gun on a moose hunt. Shot his moose with the camp 223. Went 40 yards. The moose was 30 yards away. I know it not a legal cal but the guy was going hunt after the $$$ was spent. He hoped his rifle came or someone in camo tagged out. But he did shoot a moose

Here we go again with the small caliber bow cartridges . Next is the head shots and exact placement ending in I have killed several deer with a 223 or my buddy did . Why not use a caliber that is going to knock the snot out of a deer !

I don't understand it either, Doc, but the phenomenon is far from new. Just like wanting to kill very large, dangerous game like brown and polar bears and Cape Buffalo with bows and arrows. Many of those dudes would be stomped into dust if they did not have a professional hunter with a very large rifle standing next to them to kill the animals when it charges. I read that Fred bear shot 6 polar bears with his bow before he could enter one in the record books, because he kept shooting them and then they would charge and the guide would have to kill the bear with a rifle to rescue his silly, scrawny ass. I remember reading an article in a gun magazine back in the 1960s. The author and his buddy were hunting black bears with revolvers chambered in .22 Remington Jet, which is a .357 mag necked down to .22 and is about the same power level as a .22 Hornet.

"And hopefully that $1295 compressor or the $3000 one are not essential accessories" Doc, I have a Benjamin Marauder 25 cal PCP rifle, it is remarkably accurate and I use the Benjamin hand pump to charge it. I can tell you if any amount shooting is done I get one heck of a workout. Once one settles on a load and just use their rifle in the field for hunting the hand pump alone will work just fine. Sitting at the bench and plinking and firing away a few hundred shots will get old in a hurry with the hand pump. The side benefit would be the user would have arms looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger in short order. As for power the current 35 cal Benjamin Bulldog has enough power for Deer hunting with proper bullets. The thing is ballistics show it would not even be as powerful as a 9mm or 38 special handgun round. I am sure with the right bullet and shot placement both the 9mm and 38 special will kill a Deer but most hunters would probably not be in favor of using those calibers. There are larger calibers available but I do not know much about them but pumping them up with a hand pump will not be fun. Al

Mossberg should make a 535 slug barrel, probably rifled. My Mossberg loved the Hornady SSTs.

Nice video. I've been on 9 caribou hunts and one thing I learned is that it can be feast or famine..Ya gotta shoot 'em when they're THERE...<grin>... I was licking my lips watching all of those bulls walk past your tent. I love caribou. Better than moose in my opinion. Thanks for sharing. It brings back fond memories. I remember well the first season the Panthers were in the NFL. They took most of the Bills roster including one of the best 2nd string/comeback QB's, Frank Reich ( then they benched him in the pre-season ). The Bills haven't recovered since. I am still somewhat of a Carolina fan, and I do hope they make the SB. Like I said in another topic, I am hoping for Carolina - Cincinnati. But, I will will be rooting for the Bengals all the way, that was my moms team. Sentimental thing.

That's the way I feel too but it's because I looked at my credit card slips in my wallet and checked my bank account on line. Thank you Christmas .

Unfortunately, I believe that I too added a nice buck to the the unrecovered list. I shot at one the evening before Thanksgiving. Everything happened so quickly...he showed no reaction to the shot and I found no blood but I can't believe I could have missed at 80 yds. When I went to where he had entered the woods a few minutes after taking the shot a deer jumped up and crashed off. I came back a couple hours later and then the following morning but no luck. Then, on the final day of season my uncle found a dead 10-pt. in the same vicinity a couple hundred yards from where I was looking. I believe that it was the same deer.

12-20-15 My buddy cancelled on me last night so we didn't go to his club for the morning. I called another buddy and him and his dad were heading to the 100 acre woods, so I asked what time should I meet them as I wanted to get a crack at the doe I saw yesterday. They were meeting early to shoot the $h!t at like 630am. I told them I'd be there by 7am. I rolled around the corner and my lights hit them in the face and it was 7:01. I got out and we chatted for a few as I got the rest of my gear out. Then a clue other guys pulled up so we decided to see where everyone was headed and make a plan for some pushes. We were going.g to sit for a bit and then a few would move to certain areas to see if we could get some moving. It was almost shooting time so we headed to our spots. I walked approximately 50 yards and headed down an old logging road, just like yesterday. It was extra crunchy this morning so I was going as slow as I could. As I rounded a corner, I could see down into a small flat at the bottom of the hill. I scanned it back and forth for a minute and did not see anything so I kept moving forward. I took 5 steps and looked straight down to the bottom and just to the right of the logging road there is a deer staring up at me. I get it in the scope and it is not huge, but will be a great eating deer for some guys I know at work. I try to settle the crosshairs on her but I am shaking like a beech leaf on a windy day. I took a few deep breaths and tried again. Man I was all hyped up for some reason and could not get steady. If I moved to the closest tree, the deer would bolt. She turned her head away from me and I dropped to one knee. Now she turned to look back up at me after I had knelt down. I was able to take a few more breaths and get the crosshairs settled and I squeezed. As the smoke cleared, I saw her tip over, and another deer that had been behind her, behind a tree, darted off towards my buddy and his dad. I wasn't in the woods 10 minutes and it was over. Was nice to see some deer moving through the woods naturally this year during gun season rather than chasing ones that have been pushed and pressured. I have a few guys at work that love venison and do not hunt. They also don't have a lot so I have been looking for a larger deer to split amongst them. I decided it was now or never this morning and wanted to get them something, so size didn't matter.

My boys want me to set my cam up so they could see if we could get picture of the elf. Guess what we got one.

There's places to hunt not on Cornell property, but unless you know someone, you're probably stuck on Treman or Buttermilk Falls State Parks, which are bow only. Still some good deer there though. I took a nice doe off Buttermilk a few years ago

Here are two bucks that I am mounting to compare: Buck #1 grossed 147 4/8" (would have been almost 155 had the left side been matched)... Buck #2 grossed 142 on a 7-pt frame (minus his brows, so 149 or so with them)....

Finally after an absolutely stressful season full of problems I put this big bodied 8pt on the ground. Catt county ridge runner And I got some blood on the new rig!!!

Hype,most muzzleloader will do 200-250 if the shooter spends the time working on the load and seeing where it shoots,I can shoot 300 with my Savage 10ML2 on the range but wouldn't take a shot at a game animal that far.To much to go wrong and murphy routinely kicks me in the balls!!!HA
