  1. Some of you ask who doesn't vote. Did you not notice there are supposed hunters on this very site advocating for Democrats?

  2. I had done it once because that's the shot I had, I was using a 50 Cal. MZ , shot was at base of neck on a big buck, dropped immediately. My much preferred shot is to take out both front shoulders, drop instantly.

  3. Fwiw I've killed many NY deer with the .243. Always 100 grain or the Barnes 85 in copper. Sounds typical to my experiences. Always felt the .243 was adequate but moved up to the .308 and don't have the drama anymore. No fuss when I cut one loose. Keep up the good work. Don't let the bad days get you down and always remember, HIT. THEM. HARD. Those deer have a will to live that you and I can only dream about. Keep at it.

  4. For some reason my FB feed has been a steady daily page after page stream of deer recovered (and many of them not) by trackers with their dogs. It seems there are more and more every season. And, it’s not limited to bow hunting. Many of these stories are crossbow and firearms. Has anyone else ever noticed they always preface the story with excuse making like the deer jumped, hit a twig, limb hit the stand, etc etc etc? Never I f’d up, I took a shot I shouldn’t have, my nerves got the better of me, I shot to far, maybe I should have practiced more, and so on.

  5. I have been hunting the same property for almost 40 years 90% of the time, hunting Squirrels early helps me formulate a Deer hunting plan as I can read their sign and figure out a plan where to be for a Deer hunt when I decide to go. I am not picky and just take them as they come. This year I have seen very little Deer sign and thought there would be a good chance getting skunked but I got lucky the first morning and had a buck walk right into my lap. And then there was a year I think I hunted just about every day and saw zero bucks, on the last day in the last half hour of daylight I had a buck show himself and I scored, you just never know. Al

  6. I noticed a growing trend in society, people refuse to take blame for their own actions. They will blame it on every other excuse, except the real one. Everybody screws up, accept it and take responsibility for what is done. Learn by ones mistakes.

  7. Hunted tonight before the storm. They were moving for sure. Heard about 17 shots from 4:00 until 5:10. Neighbor next door shot a nice 8 has yet to share picture. Other neighbors son took a decent 5 point. I had three big Doe come in around 4:55. They were about 40 yards out. I let them walk it was just about too dark to shoot and I had a lot of packing to do tonight.

  8. I have not used them in a few years. I like the idea of being surprised also. The deer will be there, just a matter of when and what steps out. I was in Saskatchewan a week ago. The outfitter had cams on all of his baits and showed the hunters which big bucks were coming to the individual baits. Guess what, hunters waited for the monsters and never pulled the trigger on the good bucks they were seeing. Most went home with an unpunched tag. I'm at an age now that the adventure is more enjoyable than pulling the trigger.

  10. I will take neck shots where the head meets the neck on a sub 75 yard deer. Never failed. ONLY with an absolutely solid rest. My shooting abilities i could probably do it to 300, but im waiting for broadside past 75.

  12. For a lot of folks, hunting is all about the toys they can buy. I enjoy one game camera in a popular area, just to know what is in the area, as well as the other wild life that is around. I know some guys who use them so ...scientifically, they will not hunt at all unless critters are showing at those times. Thus, some years they almost dont hunt at all...instead of just putting on the boots and ....Hunting!

  13. I have shot quite a few with neck shots...but only when I can place it from behind at the base of the skull/neck, from a rest, when a good broad side shot was not available. Not much margin of error.. No meat wasted, drops them in their tracks. BUT>>>>Given preferences, give me a broad side boilermaker shot every time. Larger margin of error with quite a large kill area. I am not proud....I have goofed "gimme" shots trying for the fancy shot. Go for the sure thing, every time.

  14. I have like 14 Spypoint’s out all the way from Watertown Ny to Letchworth State Park. I use them mostly to find a couple of the biggest bucks on my properties and then I go all in for those 2. It’s either them or bust. They come in handy when my mature target bucks come back to my property after out doing their breeding for a couple weeks. Knowing they are alive keeps the drive going. Along with keeping track of any trespassers sneaking around.

  16. So this was the first two years we had out 3 Reveal cameras. They did a great job showing us what was around but you could never time a buck with them. The lease property had them my property had the old kind. I don't mind them but real time picts can screw with your mind where to hunt. Not a big fan about them but you have to say you get some really nice pictures at times. If tomorrow they were outlawed no big deal I would hunt the same way as I always would looking for sign.
