No bitterness, no hard feelings for me; just a great bunch of people to communicate with on this site about the same subject matter related to my interest. This is why I stay. It's really, that simple. I hear there's some great hunting in Siberia.3 points

I decided to put cam up by the shoreline at my friends lot on Lake Ontario, to catch the foxes that roam along there every winter. In past years I have seen remains of geese and ducks and a seagull , just feathers remaining and blood in the snow. I have also seen tracks from the foxes going out onto the ice pack on the shoreline. I checked the cam last week and the geese and fox were in pic, and a fox with goose in its mouth headed away from cam. They know where to find food along the waterfront.3 points

A bunch tried Facebook and no response. Including the mods. John said he was still very active on Facebook but didn't respond to him either. He's walked away which is his prerogative as he is the owner. But why anyone stays out of some sort of loyalty is beyond me. He prob just tired of it and still pulls in a little $ without doing anything so why close it.3 points

Exactly. Same hypocrites continue to spew useless banter. Congrats on that !!2 points

I hope you have many years ahead of you Eddie! You are one of the great guy's I miss the most! We all have our own reasons for staying here, or sharing another site. We can do both!!! That's the way it should be!! No argument from me there! I never saw anything as a competition!! There isn't any hard feelings either!! Except for burmjohn, but that has no bearing on all but 'one blowhard', who have decided to ride it out here. I also have learned so much from airdale over the years, and will always value his opinion! I still read his posts here! Again, I never have bashed this site! I don't come here trying to "steal" members either! Both places will be what they are!! And we can all make our own choices. We don't have to discredit anyone for choosing where they want to spend their time!! It's ALL good!2 points

God bless Eddie, I envy your desire to get out there at your young age. Thats awesome. BTW great buck you took this year, your boys must be proud!!!!2 points

And here we go again! Can you former members just not let it go any leave us alone? Not one thing has changed for me when it comes to this board, I will use it the way I have since I joined. I am here to gain information about the outdoors and share anything that I think that may help others. If I make a post and just one person gains something from that post it was worth my time to post it and worth their time to read it, it is that simple. I am not going anywhere, I like it here just fine and will never join the other board. Al2 points

I can understand it some. Hell I talked to the guys on here more than most of my family. Lol. But to say it's "better" now is just ridiculous. And it could be fixed with minimal effort2 points

According to a few members still here, John is very much active on FB, and will not respond to anyone here, including the mods. He's obviously making money on the site, and there's some sort of maintenance going on, as sites need updating, and that's not free.2 points

Lake shorelines are a good source for food as all kinds of edible crap washes up on beaches; Al2 points

I'm glad he honored your order, you are one of the lucky ones. To be honest he's a scumbag for taking other members money and not giving them thier merch.2 points
-
This is my main site but I did join the other one and post occasionally. I do wonder the days when it goes down for hours that it won't come back. Somehow it is being maintained. It will end one day, then I'll be full time at the other site. No harm no foul.2 points

Go for it! I love my 270 and killed lots of deer using 130-grain bullets. I prefer the 130s over 150s because of accuracy and less kick. Good luck with it!2 points
-
Myself I hunted with a 270 for years before our property grew to bigger fields with 400yd shots frequently needed so jumped up to a 300Wby Mag. The 270 will have a little bigger punch to the shoulder then the 243 for sure. I would guess you would handle the difference in punch unless the shoulder is in real rough shape. Sight the 270 in with the lead sled so you feel nothing as you get it to tack driving and with the excitement of the hunt/shot you won’t notice the little kick.2 points

burmjohn bailed on this site years ago! He took members money for merch, and bailed on that too! I know for fact, that the owner from "the other NY outdoors forum" tried unsuccessfully to purchase this site for over two years! He wanted to keep this place going!! With the old, and new members coming, like it used to be, to keep it growing.. But again burmjohn bailed! So.....this place will certainly die a slow painful death, like a gut shot deer, with no chance of living on. There are still some guy's here that I have huge respect for!! Doc is surely among them. I check in here periodically just to see what's up. But rarely post anymore, because I was made to feel unwelcome by some members here, because I joined the "other" site too. Like so many others did from here. So be it. I don't think I'm missed much here. But I can guarantee, that if anyone joins the"other" site, they will be welcomed!!! It's growing over there!! With new members, and ideas coming in all the time! And even free give aways to members from the owner!! Imagine that here?? And you can still come here too, you don't have to give this up. I haven't.. Like I said, some great members here that I've shared ideas with for years. And value their content and experience greatly!! As a chosen moderator on the "otherside" I will be among the first to welcome you!! It never was 'us against them' for me. It doesn't have to be for those holdouts here either. You can do both, and enjoy getting answers to your posts again2 points

I know this isn't going to be popular. What ever the reason bumjohn abandoned the site, the fact is only he can authorize new members, and he hasn't let anyone in for quite sometime. Members got frustrated and a few even tried purchasing the site, including the owner of "the site we can't name" or get banned, with no response either way from the owner. More and more members left here looking for something else. Most got a "good riddance" and you won't be missed goodbye. Lots of fantastic data, and information given out over the years. It would be a shame to see it go dark. But now, realistically, this site is a group of guys in a chatroom not a forum.2 points
-
Oh it most definitely will make the bang go up a decibel or two. But crazy how much it reduces the punch.1 point
-
I don’t think people are downgrading the site. They are speaking the truth. Owner is absent, took money for merch and never shipped it or returned money. Plenty of hunting sites. Not sure why someone gets banned for mentioning another site especially when this one isn’t thriving. I give Eddie credit. With an absent owner I wouldn’t care what anyone posted on here. Not sure why you get so butt hurt over it1 point

Have to take you gun to your local gunsmith. This is mine on my 300Wby mag. Had to have it just to shoot the dang thing. They will calm the beast in any rifle. They will thread the end of your barrel and the break screws right on.1 point

Yeah, and you got to love his comment on an earlier email that "he would throw anyone out on his ass" for promoting another site. I've got some news for him. Obviously the powers to be here seem to tolerate his condescending tone and other general nonsense but if it were up to a real vote of many others here he'd be the first one who'd get thrown out on his ass. I can assure him of that.1 point

I noticed that there has been an increase in the number of members on the site today . Some have joined in 2018 and other dates and haven't posted . I wonder what they are afraid of ?????????????1 point

I own a 270 and 243 and rotate them in through different seasons. The difference in recoil is definitely noticeable but not a huge difference. Sent from my moto g power (2022) using Tapatalk1 point

Exactly. Yet the same ones… just like the original owner of the other site did…come here pushing their wares over and over. Instant Ban! Funny thing is one look over there and it’s the same exact posters every single day and they blow it up like it’s a rockin place. I can live without seeing post after post of a so called top Turkey expert that has not shot a mature Tom in years, or a guy that says antlers mean nothing to him yet after years and he shoots one with more then 4 points it’s shown 35 times on every post made. Or maybe what kind of alcohol you are drinking. Yeah, not so much.1 point
-
Maybe you can try it at the bench with the sled and get an idea on how much more pressure there is from the 243 and see. If not a crazy amount maybe even an added recoil pad or some kind of pad on the shoulder under the coat. Not worth any damage to jump up for sure.1 point

Kinda cool he got himself a goose dinner. Crafty as a Fox but them Canadians are a pretty wary bird. Can kinda see that goose sitting behind a dip or something with its head tucked from the cold before it got so rudely interrupted. Fox wins this time!!1 point

Not a whole lot of difference in recoil from my perspective, the 270 lends itself to bigger game hunting. Al1 point

This kind of behavior from a forum owner is really quite bizarre. I am wondering if something happened to him. None of it seems logical.1 point

I guess I was lucky when I ordered gear from the site. John actually sent me a bunch of other thing along with my order, it was nice.1 point

My brother-in-law hunts his deer with a .243, and has never had a problem getting the deer down. Of course he is deep into competition rifle shooting and always hits the deer exactly where he wants to. I hunt with a .270 and cannot find any significant recoil. Does my .270 kill the deer any deader than my Brother-in-law's .243?.......Probably not.1 point

Haven't been on in a long time. Always like your content @Doc. You weren't around when all this kinda fell apart. But I can give you the recap... - a few people including the mods here tried to contact the owner and he won't respond to them. Which is huge disrespect to the mods here that hung on. Why at this point to be loyal to him is beyond me and their own decision. Only Eddie is left and he quit for 18 months as well at one point. And I can't blame him. John and Geno are basically gone and have been. - a bunch of people bought some t shirts and never got shirts or their money back - a bunch of members that accidentally got logged out couldn't log back in and couldn't get any help to do this. Including some long time members. - a few tried to buy the place and no response. Again the owners prerogative. - the website domain was about to expire and many thought it may not be renewed as there is an absentee landlord. - there was zero direction here which every online system needs some oversight. It's just the way it is or it's a mess. It became all political with most of the topics being of this nature and all just arguments. - one bully and one guy posting only mass political content needed moding but it wasn't done. Most would have stayed if this happened - no new members have been able to join since 2022 except for spammers and hackers. - add content got difficult to get thru So am opportunity came up with a person that has another site with the same content started a new site. Within a couple of months 95% of the most regular posters moved over. There is a reason for that. We all enjoyed this site and how it was setup and wanted it to continue but it was falling apart. I for one hoped that it didnt close. I still look in on some guys here including yourself, first light, Cory, etc. I kept stating that the one guy that pummeled this site with political postings was a bad thing for it and that he was prob paid to do this. I find it interesting he is now no longer posting. And the one bully on here being unchecked was enough for most of us. It's sad as I and many others enjoyed this site for so long. But without some direction on an Internet site it's gonna be a mess. If posting this gets me banned when the bully stops his feet I guess so be it. Hopefully some others will come over and join the other site and would be welcomed. It's a breath of fresh air and as I said before you can be members of both it's not a contest. And although some talk about this site and the old days the vast majority moved on and are not worried about what happens here anymore. Been 2 years since I signed in, prob be 2 years before I do again. Whats sad is about an hour of work by the owner and it could be what it once was. People reaching out to others on this site to join is because they still want to interact with them and miss their content and character. An invite is not a bash to this site it's a - hope you come over there too!. The bully on this site that is always negative and hates everyone likes it just fine the way it is now cause he doesn't get any pushback anymore. Silencing others is more about that person than the 95% of people that left that really didn't want to. An hour of the owners time apparently isn't worth it to fix it. Good luck folks hope the site keeps rolling on for you. See you in a couple years. Maybe.... Lol. All you have to do is look at these two pics below of the people with the most reputation and the most content and they are all basically gone -says about everything.1 point

Yes , burmjohn had the opportunity to sell the site as he had offers to sell . As long as the site is making money for him , the site will be around . There are those on another site that are hoping for this site's failure especially some whiners how were banned for various reasons . Keep on truckin' ............1 point

So this forum is indeed doomed to a slow death. With no new members coming in to replace those who die or leave, the numbers will continue to dwindle, with the only new members being hackers. That would explain the lack of participation here. I remember all those newbies that used to post and respond to posts back in the days when this was a growing forum. Now it is just a handful of us old-timers that do any posting, and any responding to the few posts that we have. That is sad. I've been here 15 years, but I wonder how much longer my membership continues to make any sense. Without Owner participation, this forum is doomed. Why it hasn't been turned over to someone else, I can't imagine. For the Owner to just simply abandon the site and all the people in it, seems like a most irresponsible act that is a slap in the face to all the hunters that have counted on this form of communication between outdoorsmen and women.1 point

Much of my bowhunting was done from crude but effective blinds I built on the ground to break up my outline, I also did quite a bit of still hunting with not a whole lot of kills but prefer that method of hunting. Al1 point
-
If I have a site where I can be on the ground, up hill hill from the trail I'm covering and downwind I will stay on the ground if possible. The older I get (71) the more hesitant I am to use a hang-on stand more so because of the climbing stick set up. I need to be able to hold on to the top of the climbing stick, step across or even down onto the stand or I won't use it. If I don't feel comfortable I won't use it. I have had a couple stands in IL that the outfitter has set that I won't use. They have been perfectly fine taking me to another.1 point

I came down out of the trees a quite a few years ago. Mainly due to a "heights-thing". But I also discovered the excitement of dealing with deer in an eyeball-to eyeball situation where things are put kind of in their favor. Yeah I'm sure it has impacted my success, but the added excitement has kind of increased the whole deer hunting experience. By the way check out the poll. That's a forum feature that we haven't used in quite a while.1 point

Nah. No bashing with words like… I don’t think I missed anything here. Or. Saying come some place that you can get answers to your posts again! Nah no bashing on the site with those words. Typical Hypocritical Bash.0 points

And the ones above that keep bashing this site while promoting the other site should be thrown out on their ass and not allowed to speak a word on this site regardless of the length of time it’s left breathing.0 points
