That rest is ok for target shooting but not that great for hunting. A good drop away keeps the arrow in place and ready to go. Sounds like this bow is way to small for you. Figure how much you will spend total with string, drop away rest, cam, quiver, etc. vs a new bow. The new bows are vastly improved from bows 5 years old and older, you could trade that one in for credit. Go to a good bow shop and they can help set you up any way you go. Good luck and have fun shooting!

I agree with the fact that deer management needs to be micromanaged by WMU or smaller. Such a large state we live in with vast differences in sometimes short areas. This would actually make sense so it will never happen. Lets just enforce AR's on everyone! Arg!

Welcome aboard! Thanks for your service! Great site, hope you enjoy!

Agree 100% but doe do not damage tree trunks and other farm plants like bucks hence the land owners want them taken out. More about damage control than anything else. Access to the land the deer inhabit is a huge hurtle!!! But on LI we are making progress with getting better access. More and more people are signing up to have bow hunters manage the deer. Unfortunately it is not always in high population areas that need it. My home town has just opened up some area's to hunt but the deer population is all ready getting out of control. I am predicting that within 5 years it will be a major issue. Then they can try snipers like every other town that failed and say it does not work.

Looks to be about 16-20 inches depending on where you check. Wind is blowing it around pretty good causing some deep pockets. Shoveling is like doing a marathon. Make sure you take brakes!!! Be safe everyone!

Very Nice! -
I understand the big buck hunters wanting better deer but I am against limiting one deer per hunter and AR. If they do one buck it should be per county. EX: You would be allowed one buck in Suffolk and one in any other county. This would still allow hunter the option of getting two bucks without affecting the population. In area's with high population ANY deer taken will help with population control and to eliminate an extra buck would not help with the crop and vegetation damage they do, especially large bucks. I feel it is a shame that we base our hunting regulations on personal hunters view vs the needs of the deer and population control. I thought the DEC was to protect and manage the deer herd, apparently its only to make hunters happy by imposing more regulations on other hunters. ARG!

The side roads are covered and bad at this point. Was suppose to start at 9:30 but at 7:30 it already started. We have about a half inch at this point. Hope work does not keep us long!

Yea don't bring it during bow season! Otherwise I would say the largest caliber you can shoot well with for bear protection.

I was looking forward to a snow day! The supermarket was packed!!! I did not even bother the lot was so filled. It is funny how people panic when something like this is predicted. The bread and milk go first lol.

Crazy, wonder how many more are doing this. Poachers suck.

If they stopped all Buck hunting.
NFA-ADK replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
I am going to write a book about how to bag the biggest doe of your life. Wonder if anyone would ever buy it? NOT lol So who is going to start the next thread about "If they stopped all doe hunting."? If they stopped all duck hunting? If they stopped all bear hunting? If they stopped all fishing? If they stopped all small game hunting? IF THE STOPPED ALL HUNTING! Here is the real question, IF they did stop all doe hunting. What would you do? Most say buck stoppage would not change anything for them. For me it would only be that way if they stopped doe hunting, then nothing would change for me. -
Sounds like fun! One is better than none! Congrats!

Cool story, congrats, great buck!

Nice job, looks good. Good buck!

I would think that the success is due to very good mentors, poaching aside I think it would be a travesty to stop this program. At this young age most boys are not involved with girls yet but video games take priority. Anything that gets these young kids out of the house and involved with hunting and the outdoors is a great thing as long as they are willing. Kids under the age of 10 are very impressionable and a good mentor will get them started on their own journey into the great world of hunting. Stopping these programs would hamper new hunters entering the sport. And that is a bad thing because our numbers are down.

Good deer management!!! Every little bit helps in the winter that's for sure. I'm always amazed at how well equipped they are to survive winters. Not a big deal for them to survive on LI as our ground cover is usually minimal and usually does not last as long as inland snow areas. I wonder if a study has ever been done on winter herd management and keeping trails good vs no trail management. One thing is for sure, they all benefit!

Looks set up but I don't think the skiing is fake. Pretty cool. Now I want to hit the mountains!

She needs more exercise. Try to wear her out. Play ball, go on a hike or try to play with her in the house more. I usually find a companion will help with more exercise. (Usually another dog around the same age or with enough energy to keep her going.) Find her a playmate. Option 2 keep her on a leash, if she behaves you can let her loose. If she does not listen then keep her on the leash the next time out. Reward good behavior with a treat, food is an awesome tool! Good luck!

Interesting study.

Good luck! That time of the year again. I figured it would take another few weeks for the majority to start dropping.
