  1. For me personally their is nothing more wild and majestic than a whitetail buck. As a kid I was always amazed at how deer survived our winters. For me the goal is to enjoy life, reconnect with nature and enjoy the whitetail. Food was never the reason for hunting but wow do they taste good! Most of all my goal is to see and learn while viewing deer and enjoy the thrill they provide every time I see them. I hope to actually fill a tag while TRYING to enjoy my mistakes and blunders while hunting.
  2. Welcome to the forum, great site enjoy!
  3. I didn't until now. Dam Wooly those things are huge!
  4. 12/12/14 Really wish I could have gotten out the day before as we had some snow, arg... I get to Otis Pike and find only one other vehicle parked on the other side of where I am hunting. I spoke to the DEC officer who was hunting site 33 and he said the same thing I was thinking. "Not many deer in this area" he said. I agreed and stated how it was very similar to hunting up north in the ADK. I get to site 34 and head in. I covered some good ground and saw some fresh sign of bucks just not the one I am looking for. Nice day of hunting but no sightings again. I saw 2 doe entering the area I was in when leaving. The 2 first pics where old rubs, the last small one was new. Prints indicated it was a small buck. Going to try a different location with larger population and get up into a tree stand, see if I can at least have a chance at seeing a deer! Small private properly I helped to set up a bunch of stands on a few parcels. First time in years going into a tree.
  5. 12/4/14 Nice day but no sightings again. Found one nice scrape.
  6. If you get them to have the itch at a young age, they will scratch it the rest of their lives! Love it, awesome! I never had a mentor but at an early age of 6 I was introduced to hunting and guns from my uncle Mert who was known as a great and very successful hunter. Even though I did not hunt with him or get any knowledge the itch was created! Personally I love getting anyone involved in hunting but getting the kids involved is a whole different level!
  7. Could have been from a recent fight? Again really nice buck Sampotter, Congratulations!!!
  8. Very cool story, thanks for sharing Wooly and congrats on a nice buck!
  9. Answer to the question is, I suck at deer hunting! Arg! This is just not my year, I can't seem to do anything right. Lucky for me I still have a few weeks to chase them around with the bow.
  10. Very very nice buck, congratulations sounds like you had a awesome adventure!
  11. Welcome aboard, great site with great people. Wooly is one of the many that make this site great!
  12. If they do not get pushed out by people/predators they will likely use it again next year.
  13. That's the way it's suppose to work First-Light.
  14. Simply put you need to shoot some rounds after bore sighting the scope. It is only designed to get you close enough to see it on paper and sometimes it does not even do that at 50 yards. Usually 10 rounds and I have the gun zeroed in.
  15. Congratulations! Hope this is the first of many!
  16. Great advice guys! Make it known that if anyone fires towards the pusher they are out! Braking the rules is an immediate out. Drives are a great way to hunt and can be very successful as seen but safety is most important in this type of hunt. I have done a few drives in my time and they prove to get deer moving which is what is needed when deer feel presser or conditions exist for little day time movement. Good luck, be safe and please let us know how well it worked for your group!
  17. Happy B-day, many many many more!
  18. If the snow is really bad it helps them out that's for sure. Good reason if you want them to survive the harsh winters to get out and blaze some trails. I believe it helps the fawns the most but all benefit.
