  1. I would like to make deer calls. My preferred choice. Floating seafood restaurant. (If the food is good, no doubt it would work.) Computer repair and or video security installations. I am sure this would be successful, my second choice.

    Deer Tracks

Following a track has proven more informative than anything for me. Bedding, food, doe groups and travel paths are all found. Following any track can and will provide valuable information even if its just a doe. Wish I did more this year. While I have never "tracked" and killed a deer, I have learned more FROM tracks than any other teaching, reading or learned skill. Tracking is my most valuable tool for whitetail. Deer might not be in my area but the tracks tell the story of what they did when they where.

    Deer Tracks

The deeper the track the heavier the deer. Pointed tracks vs rounded. Pointed indicate less travel on rocks like swamps, rounded could indicate they travel on rocks like ridges. Big racked bucks don't go though small trees. Big bucks tend to swagger and drag their feet during rut and tend to travel alone. Bucks cover some ground during rut to check out doe groups, they travel in more direct lines when doing this. Doe travel in groups, if healthy they usually have a fawn or yearling. Doe tracks are usually small and travel in a straight line with no swagger. Doe will circle back into a home range while bucks seem to just keep going when pushed.
  4. Try it the way it is, you might like the extra length for longer shots.
  5. Sick to my stomach this morning reading this. Hope this guy is caught.
  6. They where quail hunting I think, the farm is very close to where I was. This was private land on LI. Believe me I was shocked but was told this is normal. We hunted a different set of stands in the afternoon.
  7. Sunday the 14th this was the day I saw 11 deer on the morning sit and called in the spike that ended up bedding 10 yards from me. I did not have him centered in the video because I was looking behind him and did not want to look him head on with the camera and my face. This was the highlight of my season so far and I really enjoyed watching him chew his cud. He did not like my bow when I lowed it for lunch and exited quietly, then I jumped 2 doe entering the area as I left. I hate going out for lunch! This is part of the video, interesting his reaction to the gun fire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MmTOhjF0iE&feature=youtu.be
  8. Very nice, thanks for sharing. That 6 pt has some real potential, do you think he is 2.5 Chiefbkt? Pics look great!
  9. 12/20/14 Woke up at 3:15 again, dam I am tired! Hunted from a stand again, arg. If I did not have bad luck this year I would have no luck at all! Got to the stand at about 6:30 and settled in. After about two hours I stand to stretch my legs and when I look to my left a doe is standing 40 yards broadside staring at me! Busted! GRRR 10 minutes later I see 3 more doe at 60+ yards with no clear shot, they skirt my position and head into the fields. I get down from the stand to take care of business and I jump another doe and then 3 more go running out of the woods, ARG!!! I get back into the stand and try some fawn in distress calls by mouth, two minutes later the boys come to pick me up to go home. 2015 can not come quick enough! My vacation time is now used up and I have one more weekend to go. I am hearing more rumors about LI bow season being extended into January. At least if it does happen it will be a new year and hopefully a new beginning.
  10. 12/18/14 Hunted the same spot as Sunday with no sightings for the morning and after lunch I was placed into another stand that I love but some workers making a lot of noise did not help, no sightings. One guy saw a buck and the other a few of doe, very low movement and even the fields we check before leaving where empty.

    Zero

I am with you Dom, one of my lowest seasons for seeing deer but I must admit I had a great time in the woods this year.
  12. Welcome aboard, great site, hope you enjoy!
  13. Northern Zone is a different region and has noticeably harder winters and lower populations. These things I believe are reason enough to separate them. I agree with keep things the same Bubba!
  14. Sounds like a good season to me! Nice!
  15. Where have you tried and how are you hunting, I figure you are doing bow for deer? Tree stand or stalking or blind?
  16. If the law changed and I was able to see my sight ok then yes.
  17. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GK4m36CZBWs#t=37 I could not stop laughing at this video!!! Had to share. Anyone who has fished enough from a yak knows how things can turn for the worst in flash and boy did this guy have a tough day!
  18. Some of these are minor issues and that's why the fee is low. Do I think they should be higher? Sometimes, especially 2nd and 3rd time offenders but should be left up to the judge. Anyone can forget there hunting or fishing tags, take your dog for a walk off the leash or forget a PDF or even not fill out a tag properly. I consider these minor infractions. Plus some officers are a little overzealous on handing out tickets. Transporting a non tagged deer, shooting from a highway or traveling with a loaded weapon are not minor IMO. Same with removing posted signs, taking deer on posted land and hunting at night. As far as I am concerned these people need to be ridiculed by posting to the public, hopefully it will stop them from doing more illegal activity.
  19. Very nice buck, Congratulations!
  20. Wow what a difference! Saw 2 bucks and 9 doe. Called in a little spike. Went out for lunch/breakfast and saw nothing on the afternoon stand. Highlight was having the spike bed next to me and watch him eat his cud.
