Responsible Hunting Party Seeking Lease in WNY
Larry replied to Cossack75's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
ever think of using a leasing co. -
You can’t inter change powders. I reload 444 marlins and use reloader7, IMR- 4198 and H-4198 they all have close to the same burn rate. But you can’t inter change them grain for grain. That’s why you have a reloading book. It’s your recipe book even changing primers can increase pressure. Never use powder that’s not listed for the caliber your loading. There may be different powders you could use for that caliber that’s not listed in the book you’re using. That’s why most of us have more than one book and use the internet. Never make up your own shit.

it's in every reloading book I own

At 200yds the deer is not going to know the difference at 600 it might this date comes out of my sierra book: 25-06 117gr bullet max velocity is 3100fps with 2561 energy ft.lb, 257 weatherby 117gr bullet max velocity is 3200fps and 2729 energy ft. lb. so for twice the price for ammo you get 100ftps and less than 200 e.ft.lb. it's your money and I not going to be shooting your gun.

The only reason a cross bow may shoot farther than a bow is that it’s a more stable platform. Having the stock and being pre-cocked make a cross bow more stable. As for being faster a compound bow uses about 1/3 the draw weight to achieve the same velocity as for everyone would get a cross bow most of the guys I know that have one are bow hunter that change over from a bow.

you should hit the range at lease once month. just to let you know 257 weatherby goes for between 45 and 84 dollars a box on midway. 25-06 ammo goes for 20 to 48 dollars a box. Weather the bullet is going 3000fps or 3400 fps they will both go though and any energy the bullet has after it goes though is wasted. Dead is dead you can’t make them deader.
-
Save yourself some money and just get a 25-06. I have a friend that hunts with one and has killed every deer he has shot with it. You will save on ammo the ammo cost ½ as much and is easier to reload you don’t have to worry about the double radius shoulder or the belt.

Three calibers for the world
Larry replied to Borngeechee's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
If we are talking hunting it would be a 22lr, 12gr and a 30-06 If we are talking about everything going south 12ga,5.56 and a 7.62x39 -
I’ve been bow hunting now for 42 years and have no intensions of using a cross bow. But I have never heard so much crap coming from sup posit bow hunters. We’ve all heard the same old crap cross bow aren’t bows, those who use cross bows are lazy, not as skilled as us bow hunters, taking the easy way out and hears a good one just gun hunters who want to hunt in are season. (Truth is more bow hunters are buying cross bows then gun hunters) A cross bow is a bow just look it up. A cross bow has a trigger and a stock. If you shoot your bow with a release then you have a mechanical trigger with one exception no safety and the only thing a stock does is make the cross bow a more stable platform. As for a cross bow being easier to shoot that’s true but that’s not a bad thing. As for cross bow users being lazy and unskilled there are some that are lazy and unskilled. But I will bet there are more of us bow hunters that are lazy and unskilled then cross bow users. We all know someone who pulls their bow out a week or even days before the season. Then they tell us they hit a deer and lost it sometimes more than one in a season. Just look at the bow hunting thread here you see some of the same names saying the lost a deer almost every year. Oh quit using the dead spot myth as an excuse it don’t exist. Every one of us who hunts has lost a deer and it is always are fault. If you say I never lost one then you haven’t hunted long enough or you’re a liar! So stop the crap!!

There will be no changes to the deer season for at least 3 years. With the possible exception of cross bow though the whole bow season. So you can get off the crap of a 2 week season for this and that. Maybe we can have a 2 week squirt gun and spitball season.

Hey Steve the DEC in Avon is pretty good with their information they will give you the best info they have. They will answer any question you have and if they don’t know the answer they will get back to you within a few minutes or a few days. It also helps if you talk to them and not at them.

Not knowing where you are located. I can only give you suggestions for around Rochester. I would try 490 west from 259 to 90 then back east to 259, also try 390 south from Henrietta as far south as you want to go then back north. I would also contact town highway departments. You check with the DEC to make sure you can take road kill without a tag.

Hey I made 100yd shot twice in a row on a deer target in the kill zone it’s not that hard to do. Doesn’t mean I would every shoot at a deer that far. Oh forgot to mention food was involved if I made the shot I got a free lunch.
-
not me I'm not giving up any chance to hunt I could of cared less. I did hunt those 2 weeks. I did find it funny that guys would sit out those 2 weeks then go up in there stand on the 15th and kill the first doe that walks by.Then say I didn’t hunt those 2 week because they didn’t want to scare any bucks they couldn't shoot.
-
There is only 2 reasons why the 2 week doe only did not work in those WMU’s. 1 it wasn’t that we were not willing to kill does. You can’t kill what you can’t get to. The key word is ACCESS. 2 We chose to sit out the 2 weeks. That’s it

The only thing FMG’s are good for is fur bearer hunting to help prevent pelt damage. The guy may be hunting with 5.56mm 55grfmj shot out of the m-16a1 with a 1 in 12 or a1 in 14 twist rate. That bullet would go in about 2cm turn sideways then go a few more cm. turn backward go a few more cm turn sideway and then exit backwards
