I've planted a couple of pear trees from tractor supply, had 1 small pear first year, no pears since (3 yrs). They are still growing, I wonder if it's a pollination problem as there is only 2 trees? The other thing I consider when looking for pears is the maturity date as a lot of the pears drop in September and are all gone by hunting season. Need to find late maturing pears that are local and cheap. I think I got the last couple on sale for $15 each. 1" diameter potted plants!

Tree stand arrived yesterday, Great stand for the price, plus the HS body harness and the life line included! I should have ordered 2 of these!

You got me on this, I just ordered 1. I hope you are right in your assessment. I need to retire some of my old cheap SG tree stands. These look like a good stand for the $$. Thanks for the lead.

I see flakes every day all year long!! lol

After all the work you all have put in this deer season, you all deserve a good rest in sunny Fla!

I feel your pain Doc! literally! I just completed my bow hunting sighting log, I have been keeping these records since 1998. I have averaged 16 days in the field and 58 hours in the stand. This year was my lowest total ever with 9 days and 26 hours. almost half of what I used to do. Saturday I spent maybe 2 hours in a stand and had to move to my blind as my legs were cramping up so much I couldn't sit still. I only hunted 6 hours, normally I'd be out there sunrise to sunset. I knew I would get old someday, I just never expected it to happen overnight!

I've been interested in the Rage broadheads as everyone I know that uses them loves them. I just ordered a pack of 3 + a practice head on Ebay for $15, including shipping. I don't know if they are chinese knockoffs but the package shown on the listing looks just like what you see int the stores. I'll compare them with the Rage BH that Lawd has as I know he got his at Cabelas and post the results.

another way to help stay warm on stand

I know this is a DIY thread but my wife made these you me. I'm going to need them today as it's only 32*. She has enough material for a few more I think these will make nice stocking stuffers! -
I have a tree umbrella and have used it in light rain, but with the winds forecast for Saturday (25-30 mph) I don't think it will keep you dry. Raining sideways is going to suck!!!!

Lawd, are you going to post your review of the Rage Hypo now that I see you stuck one? Nice buck and great story. ( archery harvest thread)

another way to help stay warm on stand

When do you just stick the body warmers on? You don't want it on while you are walking to your stand. I think the pouches sound like a great idea. I should be able to slip them down my shirt after I get in my stand and remove them when leaving or tracking later. Win-win Imho. I've gotta try these as I was absolutely shivering yesterday after a 2 hour sit! -
Herter's ground blind

Ouch! good thing you weren't sitting in that blind! -
Marshmallow treats, but I doctor them up. Instead of rice krispys I use multi-grain cheerios, add some craisens, chocolate chips, reeses pieces, and chopped up almonds. I make them in a cake pan, cut them into squares and wrap in saran wrap. They are great in the stand.

Herter's ground blind
2012_taco replied to Jdubs's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I checked Cabellas on line for this blind, I don't see the $20 off for spending over $100? Was that an in store special? Also The size listed for both this and the xl blind are the same except the footprint. That doesn't make any sense to me. -
I'm not going out but I've been up since 6. I just now sat in the recliner. I pulled chicken I smoked yesterday, sealed and froze, made a batch of jerky , cleaned up my mess, and then I made breakfast for me and the wifey. It does help having 1 hanging, but deep down I want to be out there! I got DMP tags I can fill.

Glad to see you're feeling better, Congrats on a nice buck!

This is my first post in the thread, as I haven't taken a deer with my bow in 3 years? It may be 4 years? Lawd can help me with this as I got my Elite bow the following year after you got yours. Anyway, I was hunting an area in 9F yesterday not seeing anything, A friend calls me and says he just got run over by 2 bucks grunting after a hot doe. Literally 400 yds from where I was! So I moved to a stand I have near there, 5 minutes in the stand and I could hear the grunts. At 5:00 I heard a grunt real close and looked up to see this buck at 15 yds. There was a doe in front of him and she moved into my little food plot, perfect broadside shot, I waited and he moved right to the same spot. I shot a little high and as he ran off I could see my arrow hanging out on the opposite side about to fall out. I waited an hour and got down. I didn't see any hair or blood at the hit spot, so i followed what I thought was the route he took from what I could see from my stand. No blood at 40 yds. I found my arrow and some blood, he went right down a mowed path, but there is a lot of water, I went 30 yds to next blood, another 30 yds and no blood after. I tracked the lane about 100 yds to a creek and never saw any sign. I went back to the last blood and found some more blood, and blood with bubbles in it! I don't know how I missed it the first time. he left the lane into thick stuff and 1 small drip at a time I found him 30 yds later. Pics coming

I don't mean to derail this thread, I really enjoy these reports/stories. BUT... Last night I shot a buck and waited an hour and started tracking. It was dark and the blood trail was not good. I know it was a high hit, broadside at 15 yds. I saw the arrow hanging out the opposite side as it ran off. I didn't see any blood until about 40yds. where I found my arrow. Almost 30 yds to next blood and another 30 blood. He ran right down a mowed lane but there is a lot of water and I just could not find any blood. I went about another 100 yds to a big ditch and didn't see any sign of a crossing or any blood. I was thinking I may have to call deer search but I was afraid it was a lost cause. I headed back to where I had last blood and luckily I found more blood! then some more and blood with bubbles in it! I don't know how I missed it the first time. The buck left the lane and I found it piled up 30 yds. later in the thick stuff. Nice 8 pt. weighed 155 on my scale. Thank God. I seriously believe reading this blog kept me at it. Thanks, Outdoorstom!!

Leftover DMP's are available Wednesday Nov 1st reminder

I picked up 2 for 9F, I probably won't need them but it's always nice to have them in case someone hunts with me and didn't get their own permits. Seems to happen every year. -
I shot my best archery buck yet on a very windy day, Gman had to talk me into a sit on an open field edge as I wanted to got down into a creek bed hollow to get out of the wind. "hunt this field, wind doesn't bother the deer" and he was right! But it was a cold sit, wet snow blowing in my face and 30+ mph winds! but it was worth every minute of it!

I got the smoker out on Sunday and did 16# of chicken thighs. Pulled them last night packaged up or future sammies. They are great with a little bbq sauce and provolone cheese and carmalized onions. My version of the Dino's Barba san!

Colver, did you make that cabinet yourself. It looks great, gave me an idea to make one for out turkey banquet in feb. Except I will have to use turkey stamp prints for the door panels of course! Nice piece! -
