  1. Just report it. Ive accidentaly reported doe tags with the wrong wmu and nothing happened. It was an honest mistake and easy to prove, but I don't think they really pay attnetion.
  2. Got this huge doe yesterday at 3:28. I was sitting under a huge cherry tree in the middle of an orchard waiting for the group of doe to come out. A couple filtered through earlier, but for some reason I couldn’t seal the deal on them. At least 6 came out but they stayed at the top of the hill in line of a house so I couldn’t shoot. When a couple finally were in a safe spot, I took the first good shot I was given. It was about 140 yards and a perfect shot. It ran maybe 15 yards before crashing. Couldn’t see it go down, but I heard the thud from 140 it’s away. Number 3 for the year so I’m definitely doing well. Still have plenty of deer in the area and have a doe and buck tag left so I’m hoping to fill one more of those. Definitely has to be either my biggest or with in the top 3 doe I’ve ever shot. Definitely a mature doe, with a hump on its shoulder and everything Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. My first buck was the Saturday before thanksgiving 2009. That morning I was in a stand with my father and we were facing one way in the homemade stand and when I turned I saw a big 10 point just looking at us. I reached for the gun and it ran off. I was pretty bumed about it, but hopeful that I might see it later in the day. That afternoon I ended up seeing a deer and shot it. It ended up being a 3 point which I couldnt have been happier about. I shot many deer out of that stand, but sadly the neighbor tore down that stand. He felt it was too close to his house ( abot 200 yards from his house), so he tore it down this season.
  4. Its public land, so it sounds like his problem. Even if his blind was there back in August it doesnt really matter.
  5. I try to make sure the pen I have on me will write on the tag before I take it out. If for some reason my pens werent working, I would do what NFA said.
  6. I think were already starting to do the best thing out there. We're passing younger deer hoping to get a bigger deer. Nothing is more effective than passing younger and smaller deer to let them grow older and bigger.
  7. A shot in the lungs, heart, liver and guts. They'll all kill a deer with in about 6 hours.
  8. If im hunting with a friend and he wounds a deer and it wals in front of me, im putting it down for him. Don't care how big it is, im helping a friend out. If im hunting my self, and I put down a wounded deer Id have to loo at the shot. If it was shot in the vitals, id give it to the guy, but if its shot in the guts and I put it down I would have to think about it. If its shot somewhere not lethal, im taking the deer for sure. Its a tough situation t be honest.
  9. Just walked within 25 yards of a bedded doe. Wasn’t sure if it was a doe or buck at first, but I had plenty of time and a clear shot at everything but the head. By the time I saw it was a giant doe and didn’t think any buck was bedded with her, it was too late. She made a couple bounds away, but no tail up so she didnt spook too bad Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. First gun purchase is a semi auto shotgun. Ive wanted one for a long time and now that im getting into duck hunting, itll really help me out. Itll probably be a Browning Maxus hunter in 12 guage
  11. You can use either buck tag at anytime during the deer season on LI. There are guys who will use their gun tag on a buck before they use their bow tag, becuase it means they can still use their bow tag upstate if they choose to hunt up their during bow season
  12. You may have to check the regs on keeping buckshot in your shotgun while hunting during deer season. It should be legal, but I wouldnt be surprised if its not.
  13. Got this fawn on Saturday. I hunted the morning at the property I usually rifle hunt and saw some doe, but the landowner doesn’t want doe to be shot this year on the property so they got a pass. Went to my grandparents property which I usually only bow hunt, but the neighbor who has an orchard now let’s me hunt it so I took a walk in the orchard. I knew the places they like to stay in the orchard so around 4:10 I snuck through the pear trees and saw a buck and 8 doe feeding under some apple trees. The buck came down to about 50 yards away and made a scrape and rub on some saplings at the tree line. The doe ranged 114-170 yards, so I took the 114 yard shot. It’s my farthest shot confirmed. The deer were so confused when I shot that I could have shot another one (have 2 more doe tags for this wmu), but I elected to pass because I had enough work with this one. I had a shot at one today as well, but I passed because I have some recent pics of a really nice 8 point so I was hoping he would come by. Hopefully I can get out Tuesday or Wednesday to take another doe in the morning and wait for a buck in the afternoon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. The deer actually has been shot already. I wonder if the guy will have it mounted with the tank
  15. This has easily become one of my favorite threads. I cant wait to get a dog and teach it to trail a deer
  16. So I didnt see anymore deer after about 7:50 this morning from the stand. I did see 3 about 4-500 yards away up the hill, but thats it. Im still not 100 percent if that was a buck I saw, but im pretty sure it was. I heard antlers hitting brush in the direction i saw the deer and I did see a flash of white around the area the head should be. Definitely one of the biggest bucks ive ever seen from stand because it looked like a giant from that far out. Im hopeing the snow on thursday will get him past my stand
  17. Just had a hawk dive bomb a chipmunk 20 yards from my stand. I’m not mad because that chipmunk was getting annoying, but what a cool thing to see Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Missed a doe at 33 yards just 20 min ago. Heard them coming through the brush from a long ways away. This frost really helps with that. I think I saw and heard a buck just before these doe came out. I saw a tail behind me in the brush and I think I saw a flash of antler. If it was a buck, it was a nice one Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Its great for your dogs, but I have yet to get a dog so I just bring them back to the woods and throw them in there. Something there will make good use of it
  20. Its been tough for me, but now knowing all the crap that has been happening around my property and even in my property unfortunately. I think i can manage to harvest a few more deer though
  21. I like to cut them into portions and freeze it that way. Takes longer for me to seal portions than whole muscle groups, but its better long run when I know it might just be me eating deer or maybe one or two other family members in my house eating it. Makes the meat last a little longer that way for my family.
