Dave gives good advice, but personally I don’t care for felt , buckskin for me . Have your hide tanned ,you’ll have enough for a few ,also ive seen on a taxidermist supply site a pre formed , artificial buckskin “ cap “ that looked good . They also sell a braided rope to glue around the antler base to neaten it up . I have most of two tanned hides in the basement , I’ve cut some off for projects ,but should be plenty to send you a square IF you can’t come up with something you want to use . heres where to cut , and what the seem will look like . Getting it wrinkle free is key .

LIVE From The Woods 2019 - Lets hear stories and see some pictures!

I get checked fairly often , perhaps 8 or so times out of the 30 plus years I’ve hunted my spot , last year right after I loaded my buck . He never asked to,see anything , you could see the buck was tagged, good enough I guess . He was more interested in trading info on the area ,with myself and the guy who lives by my spot and who’s family owns a lot of land there . -
My sisters house in a suburb of Roch. Is 4,500 SF, 20k in taxes , their sons place in Nashville same size , maybe a little more expensive of a house, 2K in taxes . My sisters place nobody ever goes up to the second floor , although my BIL has a sweet shop, and train room in the giant basement , other then that much of it isn’t used . Plus they have three homes in three states , not sure why they make NY their base . We live in a 1,700 SF home and I’m fine with that , the “ lotto “ house would be bigger for guests and things we don’t really need but would add, movie theater room and such .

Guy I used to work with does them, years ago he charged $35, when taxis were close to $90 . Go on a taxidermy web site, they sell pre formed “ leather “ , paper mache everything you need . My guy uses tanned buck skin , which is a plus as well .

I did toss a Mora in my pack this year , was surprised at how well it cleared saplings around stands, for such a light weight knife . Wasn’t all, that impressed with the one buck I field dressed with it , generally not a zero grind guy though .

Mostly toss ‘Em in a pile , some I carefully display like this . You can also have this done, way better then the kits .

Sportsman’s warehouse to Buy 8 field & stream stores
Nomad replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
Went today, I’m sure many of you have already gone . It seems all they did was change the sign from Field and Stream , same lay out same products . Smart wool socks were bogo , and 9mm ammo was cheap but I got ammo cans of it , knife prices were a bit high . They have a good Sitka gear selection, found out I need XL , at 5’9” 190# , L was way to tight in the arm pits and shoulders . Lots of Nomad clothes , so that’s a plus . -
One of my stand bys , smooth , creamy, drinkable , no surprises like grabbing random IPAS .

Neat but way to big for me . If I cleared tens of millions off the lotto ,I’d buy a summer place on the West side of Canandaigua Lake, near the North end. 3,000 square feet would be plenty , I’d have it hardened with the best doors, security windows, alarms , lights, cameras . Then our main residence would be most likely in Tennessee, on a lake , maybe build next to the one my Nephew just built , again security and privacy top priority. No more then 5,000 square . We have relatives with large homes 4,500 or so seems nice, the one with the 12,000 SF house seems a bit much , I do wish he didn’t remove to indoor batting cage from the basement though .

Top one is my main deer knife a Old Timer Stockman, carbon steel . Below is my now retired Schrade LB7 ( buck 110 clone ) it gutted my first buck and countless others , canoed the Yukon River , too many memories to risk loss at this point . Then a few EDC knifes, a Rick Hinderer xm 18, a Spyderco Matriarch, a Strider Rouge Warrior, that I sent to Tom Krein for a custom regrind . If you find me without a knife , it’ll be naked in the shower .

You can see the food on the plate , but this post is to show the table my friend made , the stones and stuff came from the property, there’s a stone arrow head as well .

Grabbed this today , to pricey , and I found it to be just ok .

I built my blinds mostly for that reason as well, a crappy OD, well I’ll sit inside ,although they’re not in the best spots . Got my daughter out two OD , the only times I sat in it . -
I don’t call anyone . I’ll send a pic to landowner , wife, the daughter who, hunts and idk a dozen friends that hunt .
-
Did you notice that the roof of the suv was caved in from the weight of the deer ? Thats the New Hemisphere roof cave weight system , one inch starts at 150# then 10# for each additional ,quarter inch .

Awesome ! I never get tired of Buckmaster7600’s stories.......

Have had mine idk 35 years, wife got hers , about 30 years ago . Our two daughters , one a couple years ago and the other this summer . The wait can be long and varies by county , but my kids wait times were 3 months and the other 4 or 5 . The 3 month one I got word they were adding extra Deputies to clear the backlog ,its often timing , but be prepared to wait. ALSO , according to a cop I know who used to do the backgrounds , use references who will answer their phones, or at least check their voice messages. He said he can do a permit in 45 minutes but getting ahold of references can really add time and frustrations . Once one is called they should call you and you alert the rest .

Idk. For 25 years I’ve done the plastic wrap and freezer paper on my Costanzas stuff, I find working with the wrap a pain . As Moog knows I used his vacuum sealer for two years , and this year I bought my own for $49 , works great . I’d dont know if it’s faster or not, but seems easier to me .

That great ! Ours nearby was pretty cleaned out according to the Mrs. I’m going tomorrow to see. Thinking of hitting the ghetto one on Hudson ave. I know in the past they still had hunting stuff marked way down when others were sold out .
-
Sounds painful , one time a button buck may be preferable though .
