Ron is a friend of mine, and I wish to share the “ backstory .” Ron was a Rochester firefighter , husband ,father, bodybuilder and ,runner , his world changed at the top of a ladder 30 plus years ago . It was a well involved house fire with a woman hanging out a second floor window, Ron placed the ladder, and the first floor window blew out and it became a race of flames and firefighter up the side of the house , the woman panicked and jumped to Ron . He caught her and fell to the ground . He landed on his back . His heal shattered like an egg as well as his back , they put his back back together with two six inch rods and some bone from his hip . He spent the next six months or year I can’t recall now , in a body cast . He’s had multiple operations since ,and he looks pretty good, but he lives with pain . He was a good baseball player and his Dad was well known in Little League for decades so keeping in the game was a natural for him . Ron started what I believe was the first “ Challenger “ team in this area , he also coached a blind baseball team. But his real accomplishment was Miracle Field . Read about it watch the video ,it makes me emotional and proud , not once in all the interviews has he talked about himself , I believe he’s purposely kept that part out of it to keep the focus on the players and others .

Flights booked , hotel 1/2 mile from stadium, seats in the Red Bird Club , just have to book stadium tour. Last series of the season . Cards won 22 out of last 28 games , cubs hanging close , should be good !

Clearly a UFO over my food plots . Goes with my reoccurring dream prior to OD , where I encounter aliens on my walk in and shoot one , same dream every year . It’s starting to all come together....

Leaf wraps . I had a ladder stand seat that the stitching failed on after one year ,called them , they sent me two new seats, two pouches that hang off the stand and a dozen bags of these leaf wraps . I used 4 or 5 on that ladder .

I’m going to wear my 30 plus year old boonie hat . This thread reminds me , I need to go buy my license too , since the school tax bill came two days ago, I can pay that at the same time .

While mine certainly didn’t stack up,to those, I gave most of mine away . Guys used them to make drawer pulls at their camps , knife handles , one guy added them to a wire he hangs them off at his camp . Just to,much clutter, that my kids will toss out when I die . I’d get a dumpster if the Mrs would let me and toss most of the ,” stuff “ around here .

I believe he’s a 11 pt, notice how brows turn out and follow the main beams , that’s cool each brow also has a kicker . I’ve got many pics of him including in the open woods , which is good . This is a trail between two thickets , and at East end where they bed, access is very difficult ,can’t go through thicket, or enter from East and From west the wind blows into bedding and have to walk the trail , to this stand I’ve had there for months ,waiting for the right wind .

Second or third trip to land ,pulled a card, did a little stand work, need to put up two ladders that are in position, but on ground .

Agree . Good land , makes it easy for almost anyone to kill deer. Time . With lots of time, even on not so good land , one can connect ( Biz’s Dad ). Plenty of time and good land, and the big ones drop , with regularity. Luck. Way bigger then 2% . Used to hunt with Howie , he did zero pre season anything including shooting his gun, killed bucks every year . He hunted in a blanket lined jean jacket , brown cowboy hat, upland vest with a six pack of Genny in it . As an example , one year OD he was late because he couldn’t find his slugs, because see, he had not even looked at his “ gear “ since he put it away at the end of the previous season . ( he found three slugs, only needed one ) He drove down a lane way parked his car, leaned up against a hay wagon , and lit a cigarette, then a buck stepped out into the field and he killed it . Every year he killed bucks, and I’m pretty sure he couldn’t tell you which way the wind was coming from ,nor care , scent control ? Crap he hunted in his every day clothes . He really annoyed , the rest of the fellas , I thought it was funny . This was back in the day , in Webster, and Ontario ,where ever we could get access to some land ,or just go where it wasn’t posted .

Larry that’s great , there are still companies with good customer service . I posted a while back about fabric seats not stitched that gave way on some F/S ladderstands , I called them as one of my two new ones ripped they took my info and said it would be sometime as the shipment was coming from China . Well last week a box came , TWO new seats , two hang on pouches for the stands and a dozen bags of leaf wraps thrown in .

Jeez TF I woke up and found that growler I got for you empty, and laying next to me ....... Ha just kidding .

Well cell phone pics, from my buddies yard ,and there’s a town bow hunting program in the neighborhood. Bolt Action from your pic I’m shooting it for sure, looks like a split brow on the right and a drop tine on the left that goes between eye and his ear . One cool freaky rack !

Ha I was pretty drunk when I posted that ( had a few more once home ) , wrote more then I remembered ..... and seemed to spell things ok ! The guy with the cane is going through 28 rounds of chemo right now , it’s hard for me to see . When I first got a spot there, those guys played Hearts all night long, and it was always pass to screw the low man , they knew every card thrown and who was out of what suit . I had no idea, he kept calling me “ dumber then a Fu%ing chicken .” Still makes me smile ! We had annual Christmas parties , ( complete with Santa and presents for the kids ) ,Easter egg hunts, sledding parties, pool parties , camping trips and so forth . As we each got promoted nobody was ever able to recapture that at our new firehouses , so its special to get together when we can, even though a couple were missing last night .

Folders are hard to make and a stone washed recurved blade with multiple grinds , are particularly difficult to make , good job .

50th wedding anniversary of the guy in the center . So about one year on the job I got to transfer to a busy house in the ghetto, with these guys . The guy in the center , decorated Vietnam vet ,and the funniest guy I ever met . Guy with the cane has been fighting a couple different cancers, now in chemo , about the most loved and respected guy on the job in decades . We fought tons of fires, saved a few folks lost a few . Tonight was a night of laughs and drinks ,and stories , but not of fires ,but of , remember when you backed up the rig into the Chiefs car ...... Its hard to explain,but we had so many close calls, trips to the hospital and just out right laughs and we don’t give a F.... times it was crazy . We were proud that no fire that we were first in at ever went to a second alarm , because we put the fuc@# out . Saved a few folks ,dragged many dead ones,out . A bond that few will ever know , and things that most are better off not seeing . one New Year’s Eve , three kids were killed in a fire , the M.E.was tied up on a homicide , the locals,were all drunk and upset with the bodies in the yard , so they loaded the kids up in the ambulance and brought them to our firehouse , were myself and another FF , set burned up bodies on our floor, until they could be picked up . My most memorable New Year ...... Anyways tonight was a night of nights ! Men bounding and laughing , and and dreaming of the days we were young and strong .

Never had buck fever, always cool clam and collected. Really ,it was always ,ok,that’s one I want to shoot , bang .

Ya second series that month , I hate the Cubs , and their fans tend to be Dicks at times . Mrs Nomad doesn’t want to go to all 3 games wtf , but if it means that much to me ..... Frankly I want to hit up some restaurants, see that Arch and so forth , so maybe it would be fun to watch a game at a local bar , for some local color . Did I mention I hate the Cubs ?

Grabbed two,tickets for Sunday’s game ,because the seats I wanted were few. Infield Redbird club seats, padded ,more leg room, exclusive access to better food, booze and bathrooms . Still have to grab tickets for the rest of the series , hotel rooms, and book flight .
