  1. Not what your looking for,but this safe is made to hold a shotgun ready for use,and is fast opening .but you'd need two....and it would be pretty much out in the open. Just thought I'd pass it on. http://www.amazon.com/Sentry-HDC11E-Defense-Center-Cubic/dp/B0075JO1AO
  2. All good points Belo. Each has its advantages and disadvantages ,my thoughts long barrel in a barricade type defensive position ,but where the handgun shines it it allows one to use his other hand for things like, flashlights, cell phones, door locks and so forth while still having control over the gun. Much more portable as well, one can discreetly go to the door and the like, easier to keep out of view of the causal visitor/ workman . There is no way I'd have people in my house ,from like a Craigslist ad, but after my Dad died I was meeting a ton at his almost empty house while selling off the last of his stuff, and one time during the estate sale I was glad I had it.
  3. Knowing a couple guys who had close calls with family members showing up unexpected, like my hunting partners son who came home from college in another city at 2AM. His wife woke him, " Joe someone's in the house! " ya I know nobody's kids here would do that ,that's what Joe said to. Then there is a guy I know who shot a friend again showing up from out of town at odd hours..... I've rethought my whole attitude about issuing a challenge . Ya I got a Surefire light on my nightstand 24/7 plus often my work light, and I keep bright one cell tac light on me most nights,I plan on ID ing my target , but I'd rather my kid just yells Dad it's me before we get that close.
  4. Any gun is better then no gun, a gun you shoot well and is simple to operate and always runs ,is the way to go if that's a .22 so be it. I'm toying with the idea of a 8 shot .22 revolver for my oldest daughter, she shoots but not as much as I'd like, and that seems like a good choice. That said I've been to well over 100 shootings and I'm inclined to think it may be close to 200 , I've seen a surprising number of shooting victims more worried about their coat and cell phone than the blood leaking from the holes.... Which tend to be small and almost self sealing, the ones where the shell casing are small anyway. Now when there is shotgun shells and larger shell casings on the ground ,those folks you don't have to tell to get off their phone. Right now there is a short barreled Benelli with 00 buck and my .40 cal at the ready. Saying you, have a gun may make many run out, shooting the ones that don't may make them then run out, or maybe towards you ! I'd rather make it so he doesn't have the option . Take running right out of the equation as much as possible.
  5. The big issue is if the man and cow want to get married, will a cake shop by forced by law to make them a cake ?
  6. That's nice, I like that clear cut that runs off the ag fields to the north. Enjoy.
  7. I know a guy who has some sort of Army truck thing that can go in water it's got the exhaust that is mounted up above the cab. He takes multiple men and a couple 4 wheelers across the Genesee river with it....... For you I suggest a simple canoe.
  8. Well I really like my old silent hunter. Steel, chain on , weights a ton, seat swivels and flips up. No cables which I love. Made in America by Americans out of steel and welds. I do not like hanging it as I get older,it's a bear to hang. The cheap stands with the thin cables and little crimpy things kind of worry me, yet I have a few..... I've been toying with replacing the cables with a steel band.
  9. Never saw this show but I ll say this, all these shows are fake ,as in scripted reshot , just plain made up etc. Take Pawn Stars the highest rated one of them all. You have never seen a real transaction on the show, actors and tourists who are asked if they want to be on the show, given an item and told what to ask and say. The kid you yelled at for selling his grampas war metals, did not. I've heard the confidentially laws forbid recording of transactions in L.V. Pawn shops, not 100 % sure of that but it would explain the actors and tourist being used. If you go there, you'll find t shirts, coffee mugs and autographed photos, under the glass counters you won't find many Super Bowl rings or Rolex watches, but largely junk.
  10. Then you ll enjoy this book I had in the 70's. http://www.amazon.com/Cant-Peanuts-Church-Other-Little-Known/dp/0385013930
  11. Im happy we have less hunters shooting themselves or fellow hunters ,however without tracking treestand falls saying " safest or safer" is a bit of a stretch .
  12. All weathermen should be required by law and NOAA to commute by motorcycle.that way they'd have a chip in the game. Then there should be just 3 forecasts , " I'm riding my motorcycle ,I'm riding my motorcycle but bringing a rain suit for the ride home just in case, and take the buss". Oh and one forecast per half hour news please not 3 partial forecasts, and skip all the map of the U.S. And world and get right to the forecast. And have only hot chicks in tight clothes do the weather. See link! http://m.damnlol.com/i-never-miss-a-weather-forecast-unless-im-from-finland-931.html
  13. Deal does not begin to describe it.take a look at these canoe coffee tables and book cases.... http://www.amtraders.com/f-coffee.asp
  14. I went mouse hunting the other day....
  15. It's to bad really, what some hunters forget is that that are out numbered 10 to 1 by the gun owners. I already see the first signs of gun owners ready to push back against the Fudds . Think hunting land is hard to find now ......
  16. I have an up right, size? Idk it looks to be about 2/3 the size of a normal refrigerator .right now it has1 deer and two turkey in it plus other foods. Most years it holds 2 deer plus. I got this one from my parents house so size was not a choice . Like gun safes, tents and the like, I'd say go bigger then you think you'll need.
  17. Around me,Webster the ones I see most days look good. My hunting partner who lives in the flats of Irondequoit has groups in his yard every day,the text he sent 2 days ago was they were massive . Can't speak for other areas but northern Monroe county seems good .
  18. Well the Supreme Court did say in both Miller and Heller, that it applied to arms on common use by the solider. It does not get any more common then the AR . Crew weapons are out so yes no tanks ,mortars , and the ever popular with the antis, Bazookas ! Millers argument that his sawed off shotgun was protected by the Second Amendment was rejected because it was not in common use by the standing Army. Hum what long gun is in common use by the standing Army.... Keeping on topic,I can't wait to get a xgun, both my shoulders are really hurting,my arms go to sleep every night and it's getting had to lift my left arm above parallel at times. That and just shooting it kills all deer with in a half mile I've been told !
  19. I can't answer your questions, but this is the great news for the pro gun side in general, and has lit up gun forums nation wide as well as national AM talk radio. May want to ask over at Nyfirearms.com
  20. A number of LEO's have been shot raiding the wrong houses, along with doing "no knock" raids on the right houses where the residents thought they were a victim of a home invasion. One such guy who had a few pot plants and was the target of the raid, just was set free by the court after killing a LEO during a no knock raid. So depends a lot on how they go about it I guess. The average gun owner not to much to worry about, the old worn out guy pissed off at the world.... Hey they'll shoot you for texting at the movies....
  21. Sometimes there are other ways to do it. Montana it used to be hard to get a non resident deer tag, like 12% one year... But if you put in for a elk/deer combo you had a 66% chance of getting that. Cost a little more but it worked for me. Also after the tags are issued and the months go by some guys can no longer go and can get a prorated refund, well their tags go back into a pool that most guys did not know of......once they had the first drawing that was it these tags did not go to the next inline, but to those who called and asked. IIRC. One needs to talk to the dec/dnr of the state to learn of said methods.
  22. Love to ski, can't wait for the ice to melt off the Bay...... Hardest part of waterskiing is finding a lake that slopes !
  23. Double charged .22 sign me up ! Not to worried about it blowing up my Dan Wesson .22 built on a .357 frame.......
  24. Coaches and camera men , 100 plus feet up trees at Olympics. Saw a camera man on tv in a Lone Wolf set at 85 feet. http://msn.foxsports.com/olympics/story/alpine-skiing-coaches-tree-climbing-in-sochi-021114
  25. Random thoughts on this. I've been deer hunting since the late 70 's or so, I remember having to have 3 guys for a party permit.... Now the farm I hunt had AR's for years before I got put under them as my section was far removed from the main farm. In the 5 or has it been 6 years since I shot 2 bucks that made the farms cut off and one opps that was not the one I thought it was ,the first year.i had to sweat loosing my spot for that for quite some time...... Prior to that I shot bucks each year, not as big but I was happy. Now I shoot a bigger one every 2 or 3 years and I'm although I love the fact I have a great spot to hunt and they treat me like gold, once I went 2 years with no buck,it kinda sucked. Just because we have bigger bucks, and we do ,does not mean you ll get one every year or even 2 . I can hunt a few days a week without taking any time off,yet I take between 3 and 5 weeks off a year in deer season. Many of my friends have 4 or 5 day to hunt ! Hunting means as much to them as me,but owning companies, and having jobs who's busy season is during hunting season limits their time afield .its a major struggle to get them on the AR bandwagon.they are happy to say I shot a 6 or 8 . So be it. I truely feel we re driving these guys right out of hunting. Oh you need 6 stands, cameras, take all your vacation time in deer season pass up young bucks and on and on. I hunt because my Dad did,all his gear was a zippo hand warmer ,fixed blade knife and pocket watch style compass. That was it outside of a gun and clothes.he went opening day and Thanksgiving week end. Today you have to spend thousands of dollars ,weeks afield and if you shoot a young buck your just not listening .....
