  1. Looks like a multi-port unit, lovely.
  2. Good heavens no I wouldn't rinse it off.
  3. I thought the amount of shooting was about the same as the past couple years.......down. No close shots at all to excite me all day. 7 guys/gals hunt the land I'm hunting; 3 buck and one doe were shot. A bunch of other doe and a couple small bucks were passed. Two of the bucks were excellent, both were in the 21" wide range. One went 150lbs and the other a rocking 205lbs. The other buck MIGHT have gone 100lbs but I wouldn't bet on it.
  4. Now that there is one experience I'd be thrilled to pass on!
  5. My freakin' climber needs a roll cage.................
  6. I was joking of course with the "fun" part of it.............I heard a loud crashing during the heavy winds and saw the power lines about 40 yards away shaking violently and all the snow coming off them. After the 20 second blizzard of snow coming off the tree I saw something that wasn't there seconds before. I cleaned the snow off my binos and glassed a tree across the seasonal driveway that parallels the driveway. After a I climbed down from the stand I took a walk over to check it out. Turns out it was two trees, the top of the one brushed the power line but fortunately didn't pull them down. I snapped a quick pic and beat feet...........
  7. Not me............................(except today)
  8. In a bit I'll post a pic for you of some fun I had in the wind this morning. It was a miserable (and fruitless) 4.5 hours in the saddle to say the least!
  9. I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow regardless of the lousy weather coming in. Be safe and stack 'em like cord wood.
  10. I gave this some thought earlier tonight! I remember reading about a similar system but a little different...... Take a 2x12 (?) and cut it to the length of the truck bed, put an eye bolt up near the top with the threaded end that takes the nut counter sunk into the backside of the 2x12. After you get your buck to the truck, load it onto the board and tie the head/neck to the eye bolt. Now lift the end of the board up onto the tailgate and then go to the other end of the board and slide 'er in. After all that explanation, I think I like your idea with the winch and a simple hunk of plywood. The winch AND the plywood are in my garage now. After work tomorrow I'll zip the plywood to length. OR...........call a friend.
  11. Hmm that'd be a subtle statement............tell me more!!!
  12. Haven't decided yet......either the 243 with 80gr Barnes TTX or the 7mm-08 with 120gr NBT. Both are NULA guns.
  13. The LAW gun sounds pretty nice. Have you given any thought to a Kimber Montana? Great choice there..........
  14. How did you manage to do THAT? (whatever THAT is)
  15. Never owned one (no interest) but have shot a couple. Dad owned a 30-06 Mark V that I plinked with a little but could never warm up to the odd bolt lift and the fact that said bolt weighed almost as much as one of my ULA rifles. Oh and the stock design and finish made me wanna puke. Other than that, they were OK.
  16. I'd be hoping for no cast..........not a smaller one. Good luck!
  17. Never seen it happen. With a safety line/prusik hitch you are connected from the ground to the stand and vice versa. There really is no other way to do it.......why in God's name would you want to climb up, step onto the stand, turn around, strap on a safety belt to the tree THEN hook up? Oh yea, then when it's time to head back to Mahogany Ridge you have to reverse the procedure; possibly in very dark conditions while stiff/cold/excited/scared or even elated. I'll pass......... To the OP; it's really quite simple. Have your buds all donate a little cash and make up some life lines. Then they all need to just buy a good harness with their own carbiner attached. Then you guys are all hooked up from bottom to top and then down. Slick as snot............
  18. Or none of the above. Google "Safety Line" and "Prusik Hitch". No guarantee on the spelling of prusik...... Review those two and come on back.
  19. I'm smiling as I ponder an over nighter to Wellsville with a few members. Maybe we hookup with "buckstopshere" and stay at his place?? Ground Zero..........
  20. I won't say the thought didn't cross my mind.
  21. I'm impressed with the blind. It came Friday, I set it up in the family room last night just for fun. Up and down quick and easy.... Set it up this morning in the yard and got the right chair figured out; Slumberjack Directors works real good as far as I can tell. Easily a two man blind plus ALL the gear you'd ever want to bring. Well made with damn nice material. I'll post some after I set it up for my buddy next week. $229, no tax and free shipping. I tried to talk a couple friends into buying as they are $199 if you buy two or more. Keep that in mind if you're considering one.......
  22. Back in the late 80's I found a bunch of big sheds in North Amherst, I only found one matched pair. Those beauties were offically scored at 150" +/- an inch or two. MY buddy Bernie Seitz and I made a swap on some caribou capes and he mounted the beast in a full sneak, looking left IIRC. I had seen him tending some does behind the house I was living in back then. It was a great lloking mount to me and I kept it until I got married then sold it for a few reasons; short on cash, no personal attachment to me and I didn't want to display it with my other mounts I'd killed. You see, I got tired of telling people I didn't shoot it and that it wasn't the real bucks cape etc etc. I sold it through the swap sheet IIRC and was told it'd be hanging in a bar in Wellsville, NY. The bottom line; I'd do another sneak mount in a flash. PS......If anyone knows of a DANDY perfect 10 pointer mounted in a sneak mount and hanging in a gin mill somewhere in the Wellsville area, let me know.
