  1. Anybody hit 'em over the weekend?
  2. Hard horned inquisitive little guy..........................
  3. Not to be confused with another Slammer................. New video off of the Bushnell Trophy Cam.
  4. Veal, turtle soup and cold beer.
  5. The shafts need to be clean. I use 90% alcohol on my ACC shafts for the last 10 years and haven't had a problem other than FUBAR vanes from shooting tight groups!
  6. Gosh, I'm just praying I DON'T grow up! Eddie, I turned 50 three weeks ago and I'm still celebrating
  7. Any big plans for the day? Have a good one!
  8. Back in the mid 80's I lived in North Amherst on Campbell Blvd. in an area that was known for the overabundance of deer. I mean GOBS of deer. Unfortunately it was closed to hunting. IIRC over 400 deer/car collisions occurred in one year in a block of land that was bordered by Tonawanda Creek Rd, Campbell Blvd., North French and Millersport Highway. Deer & Deer Hunting Magazine did an article on the area and dubbed it the ________ _______ triangle. (I don't remember everything!) Some humungous bucks roamed the woods back then and were getting squished by Pinto's, Vega's and AMC Hornet's. The local police and a handful of local shooters but a huge hurt on the population and most of the big bucks disappeared quickly (NOT mysteriously). They had a job to do and did it well. I saw a few 160' and a couple 170's back then and to be honest, I'm pretty sure I saw a 180" brute one night in North Tonawanda.
  9. I've seen some real beauts over the years, even shot at a couple! Missed a HOG about 10 years ago in Naples, I can still see that buck standing in the snow..........mmm. I did kill my best last year as a couple of you know(!). I'll see if I can scare up a picture.
  10. When you click on the pics you can get a better view.......in the first picture the buck on the left is pretty nice! Good collection you have going!!
  11. Post up some hero shots for those of us that would REALLY like to see them! (of the animals, not the beer!)
  12. It'll be interesting to see how many people will use the xbow during gun season. Probably only the Horton sponsored outdoor writers, then who knows, maybe even THEY won't want to use them when they could be carrying a gun. Prove me wrong.................
  13. I've had deer lick & sniff my camera. Actually had a young bear in Canadice nibble on it a couple years ago but only did a little cosmetic damage. I put out my new Bushnell Trophy Cam yesterday on what appears to be a horse trail. <grin> Set it for video and it has sound so that should/could be interesting. I screwed up yesterday also.......I put my buddies CuddeBack camera out. It takes a CompactFlash card and I put a 32mg card in it. I got home and found the 2GB card for it. It'll be filled up in a couple days I think at 32mg. Crap, too far to drive to change out so it'll have to sit for a couple days.

  15. Heck, residents have a hard enough time getting one! Carry a shotgun, no worries.

    Hi

Hi guys & gals.....Just wanted to say hello here. Seems we're all starting fresh with out post counts and I'm a newbie! Just curious, what's your views on QDM? How about AR's? Any thoughts on the crossbow? 270 or 30-06? 223 big enough for deer? Catch & release or kill & grill? TIA. Lawdwaz
  17. I for one am really looking forward to the story and pictures from this trip. A moose hunt is something I've kind of been thinking about for a few years. Alaska and the Yukon are pretty much not in the cards due to prices. I'm sure this hunt isn't cheap either but maybe more doable for me?? Good luck Dan!
  18. Does that scent lock stuff really work? I'll pass and take my chances on the wind. Get some lighter weight wool gear, layer it up when it gets colder. For the really cold weather, multiple layers (of merino wool or similar) under that wool will work just fine when bow hunting unless your sitting all day then some down goodies could help.
  19. Two nights ago a couple friends did a little dusk look around at one of the places I hunt and glassed 12 (twelve) bucks together. Then 10 minutes later glassed 5 different bucks hanging together in another field. Not too shabby. Makes a guy want to run out an order another trail cam. (I did!) Last night I did a little woodchuck hunt down in Wyoming County and on the way home saw lots of deer out feeding in the hay/clover fields at dusk. I'm getting itchy................................
  20. Couldn't sleep this morning past 4am................... Just ordered a Bushnell Trophy Cam on the glowing reviews here off EBay. Wish me luck!
  21. Glad your OK. Could certainly be a life threatening deal for some. I always wondered about some of the guys working for the DOT and local government mowing ditches and such, how often do they run into a swarm of them bastids??
  22. Just out of curiosity, how thick SHOULD that concrete be? I'd give my left/right (take your pick) nut for a trip over to Africa. Cape Buffalo would certainly be the #1 priority and then some plains game. Some good information on African hunting trips can also be found on the 24Hourcampfire.com For years I really had a desire to go but that has lessened a bit as my kids are getting older and prices are NOT going down! Maybe someday...................................................... ;)
  23. Ahhh, I should have known. Why didn't you mention earlier that you are perfect? Silly me. Have a great night. Not saying I'm perfect. But if the deer is standing still my bullet is not going to end up in the shoulder blade unless I want it to. I've shot enough deer now to feel confident about that fact. I think you felt I was being arrogant but that was not my intent. We're good.............
  24. I can't type fast enough.......................... ;D
  25. It's been talked about on this site a few times before, I think. Here's teh language: Bonus DMPs will be issued to increase hunter participation and deer harvest in four Wildlife Management Units (1C, 3S, 4J and 8C). "Bonus Permits" will be available to hunters who take an antlerless deer in one of those units on a Deer Management Permit (DMP) or a Bonus DMP for that unit. Bonus DMPs may be used only in the Unit for which they are issued and will be valid for a deer of either sex. Bonus DMPs that are used to take an antlerless deer may be replaced with another "Bonus DMP". Bonus DMPs used to take an antlered deer will not be replaced. THAT'S what we're looking for, an easy explanation! Come on back, OP!!
