  1. Very ingenius and practical too! Get a patent and sell it to Primos...
  2. You're talking about the one in the front...? Just kidding!!! Great looking buck! Hopefully when the rut kicks in he'll show up in the daylight hours.
  3. I love to shop at Dick's because: It's less painful to dirve the 12 miles & not find what I want than the 50 miles to BassPro with the same scenerio. Mainly shop online for that reason
  4. Think you're onto something. Like WD-40 or duct tape, 1001 uses....
  5. Never had too much luck with any scents, at least where I've hunted. Wish I had the $$$ I've spent on them over the years. Have tried most all of them, some were expensive too and almost guaranteed... This year is my last ditch, desperation attempt at using scents. Soon I'm going to start some scrapes near a couple of my treestands. May continue using the drag line to the stands with doe urine.
  6. Try to get a fabric that has holes or a leaf cut pattern. Otherwise it will flap/blow in the wind regardless how tight you get it. Holes in fabric also allow for easier attachment to stand frame with tie-wraps You're going to end up replacing it every 2-3 years max. I always try to wash mine in scent-free laundry soap before using. Takes out any UV fabric additives &/or manufacturing odors. This is what has worked for me......
  7. Not sure where you are located, but check out www.woodtex.com. Located on Rte14 in Yates county, originally Mennonite carpenters but not so sure any more. Mine is a 12" x 24" with 12" OC floor joists with 3/4" floor sheathing. OH garage door, steel entrance door, couple of larger windors and a single smaller window. Mine sits on a prepared gravel site. Does heave slightly. but nothing where the doors won't open/close. Love mine! Do wish I'd gone with the fully insulated option. Like John mentioned, they're not cheap but one of the best investments I've made.
  8. When I was still working, I was told numerous time in September & early October I had the "Hunter's Stare". Kind of a blank look on your face & intensely staring out into space or out a window. Does that disrupt your everyday life, you bet!!
  9. OMG, you're killing this "ole dawg" with this new trick!
  10. So you're worried about how many deer you can kill during the hunting season???? With an attitude like that you'll need to re-register for the hunter safety course. Hunting is about the experience, not the body count!
  11. Dig up the nest with a shovel & beat them when they begin to exit nest. Let me know when you're going to do this, I want to watch. LOL FYI - gas mixed witrh some waste oil added for a longer burn works great!
  12. No discing for me, thanx anyways... : I've taken care of them before; early morning with gas & a match. Wasps or bees - they were history!
  13. Okay, I'm stupid - explain something! Tried never to disturb them, but I always thought they were ground bees. Are they actually yellow jackets or can both build (dig?) hives in the ground???? Aren't yellow jackets a sub-species of wasps? Oh yeah, glad you're okay. Must have been really exciting when they were chasing you! LOL ???
  14. Being retired and at my property almost every day, it'd difficult to ignore them for more than 4 days.
  15. ??? Don't recall exactly what time it was Tuesday afternoon, but I thought I heard thunder. Looking out the window all I saw were the blue skies. Didn't think any more about it due to all the isolated storms we have been getting lately. Must have been rumbling from the quake in Virginia. Anyone else see, hear or feel the effects of that earthquake?
  16. I hunt just north of Sodus with apple orchards bordering my brush lot property. My problem is there are no agricultural crops within 3-4 miles except the apples. This makes the deer almost a sub-species of the whitetail, brush deer (bucks). Anyone that has hunted them knows what I mean. It's no different than any other stand hunting, find the food sources & bedding areas and get between them. Apple orchards are no more than large, late maturing food plots or legal baiting areas. Nothing magical about apple orchards & deer hunting success. It tends to be a very specific, compressed time frame for hunting. I've had better luck pre-Halloween and in the AM hunting orchards, except last year when the apples ripened early. I've seen/harvested more deer setting up in the areas where the does reside than obsessing with the orchards. In my situation, when the apples are being picked, most deer movement to/from orchards becomes mostly nocturnal. A neighbor plants a large corn plot that the deer hit harder than the apples, especially closer to rut time. Hunting orchards can be productive, but if you're a "rack" or trophy hunter- stick with areas with grain crops. Deer love their apples, but by the time they ripen the deer are already the size they are going to be for that year.
  17. In my younger, struggling family days - we'd live on venison. Typically 3-4 a year, all cut up by my dad & myself into various cuts. Just me, so I use 1 deer made entirely into hot Italian sausage. Chili, spaghetti sauce and all those gourmet (?) box mixes with noodles or rice. Eaten a ton of venison in my life time, but could never aquire a taste for the steaks.
  18. Started out with a Summit Viper climber. Didn't take long to realize climbers weren't for me. No way could I use a hang-on stand (vertigo?) Now use ladder stands exclusively. Wierd, but I can sit all day up in a well made, comfy ladder stand with arm & shooting rails.
  19. That's a problen I'm sure you can live with. Looks like a monster rack!!!!!
  20. Bet that gun could tell a story. Very neat!!!
  21. That's my experience too. What rack they have by the end of July is what they are less the velvet!
  22. WOW!!! Very meat, unforgetable experience!
  23. Also could have been from the Tuscarora, the Iroquois adopted this tri-ethnic tribe as the 6th nation. Believe they were allowed to settle in your area in the early 1700s. Of course, that was just before George Washington ordered the Iroquois driven from NYS.
  24. Vestal points, I did not know about that, interesting!!!! I'm more familiar with Iroquois history, 600AD and beyond. Let me know when your Mom & Dad go to church, we'll dig up the garden. LOL
  25. Ahh, brings back memories of exploding bottles in the basement when my father was into beer/wine making. Very neat hobby!
