120lb doe at 8 yards, only my second time hunting with a climber. love getting some meat in the freezer early in the season. gotta give some credit to the flock of geese in the field, she seemed kinda spooked by them and ran right to me

I say leave the stand up. then grab some taco bell and come back and leave him a present on the seat!!! there's no excuse for trespassers

Has anyone used a new item and feel it is helpful?

I second that!!! makes your climber feel rock solid -
definitely backpack for me. as far as hunting gear goes, I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. don't mind carrying the extra weight. I work for a moving company so all I do is carry stuff. an extra 10-20 lbs isn't gonna break me. I especially need a pack when it starts getting cold to carry my jacket and extra layers because I sweat like a donkey. no matter how cold it is, I'm usually walking to my stand just in my base layer

30 yrds is my max, that's as far as I can practice in my backyard

Shooting a bow standing or sitting from stand?
518BowSlayer replied to Deadhunter25's topic in Bow Hunting
I always shoot standing because all my stands have shooting rails. I like having the rail there because it makes me feel safer but the compromise is that you cant shoot sitting down, which means you have to stand up quietly and without being seen. it's a give and take but I've never been busted trying to stand up. I usually get busted when the wind suddenly changes direction -
too bad you guys didn't hook into the sun bather... you could've come home with some crabs too

bought a climber, gonna try public land for the first time this year. plus I can set up in different places on the private land I hunt. practiced with it a bunch so I'm pretty confident I can climb up quietly in the dark. safety was my first concern but after some practice with it i feel completely safe. way more comfy than my ladder stands too.

I can vouch for wasp jackhammers, 3 years and 4 deer with them and haven't had a problem. no deer I've shot with them has gone more than 50 yards. even a 5 pointer that I gut shot only went 40. had nothing to do with the accuracy of them, I just rushed the shot

the first pic looks like he's telling you to kiss it. don't let him get away with that!!!

hunting without a truck how do you transport your deer

tarp in the trunk works fine, did that in my old Malibu for years -
I am so sorry for your loss. 2 weeks ago, I had to put my 12 year old dog down and a close friend of mine passed away on the same day. Both were from cancer. My friend was only 43 and he already survived it once but couldn't beat it a second time. I know it's not the same as losing your wife but I too have felt cancer's wrath and her wounds are still very fresh. My sincerest condolences to you and your family

having a shooting rail just makes me feel safer. never has gotten in the way of a shot for me. definitely prefer a 2 man stand just for the room, and a bigger platform is nice too. I thing its worth the extra few bucks for a big 2 man stand but that's just me
-
pretty sure these 2 pics are the same buck but he's plenty big enough for me

my girlfriends father goes to Berkshire view farms in Alcove. cant remember the exact price but I remember that it is quite reasonable. don't have to skin or debone anything, he just brings the gutted deer there and gets back vacuum sealed packs of meat. pretty sure they do sausage and stuff too.

Thanksgiving in July. Roasted half of the jake I shot on opening morning. Sat in a brine overnight then rubbed with garlic and herb butter (rosemary, thyme, and sage). Next time i'll do the breast and thighs separate. Half a bird is way too much for just me and the wife. Came out great though!!!
